I'd say neither are very realistic. Though it would be nice for the heroine of a shojo manga to not fall in love with the jerkass for once.

But in fiction, all this goes out the window since its up to the author what they want to do. Personally, I think the difference lies in the gender politics of Japanese society.

neither are very realistic because in reality, well... let's just say that the types of guys present in the fiction do not exist.
there's no prince charming/white knight in shoujo, nor the invincible hero in shounen... *shrug*
