Sakamichi no Apollon
By: KODAMA Yuki
Genre: School Life, Drama, Romance
Serialized In: Flowers
Nishimi Kaoru has moved from city to city and school to school because of his father’s job. So the first day at his new school was just routine for him. Being intellectual and the new transfer student, he has always been seen as an outcast and all Kaoru had to do was bare it until the next time he moved. But things were slightly different this time. First, he started to get close to the class president, Mukae Ritsuko, and, secondly, unlikely as it seemed, grew closer to Kawabuchi Sentaro. Sentaro was infamous for getting into fights, skipping class and was an overall bad boy. Strangely enough, the three of them find common ground in music, namely jazz, and Kaoru finds himself actually enjoying the new town.
When I first saw some images about the anime to come, I almost thought it was a ya-oi :-)
Well so far it is not extraordinary original but since it is an award winning manga I will give it a bit more. And probably look the anime in parallel. With Jazz, the music should be less a problem than with Beck.
PS : What is this Alan Delon joke about ?
Well at first I thought I would only watch the anime since the releases were quite slow but then sukikatte team made an amazing work and I couldn't resist.
After five volumes, it seems like the jazz is just secondary w.r.t the romance theme, so I hope people who watch it for the music won't be to disappointed. Now the manga is going in an interesting direction, 2 girls 3 boys : one to many, will the friendship between sen and bon survive this like it did for the rock band ?

Argh this volume 8 is too sad ! I can't read it in one go.
the anime does not differ much from the manga no?
I loved the anime, and didn't bother reading the manga because I thought it would just be the same, and if the anime was indeed beautifully executed (which it was) then I'd be satisfied with that.
was I wrong?
There was some scene cut in the anime in particular with his mum in Tokyo. And the art of the manga is a bit more peculiar
In flower site, they are still some content about this serie, i seem to remember there may be some extra but I'm not sure about it
