It is hilarious since the first chapter. It is different from the "conventional" humor of Gintama or Sket Dan, the idea of a deliquent babysitting is great.

I nominate Great Teacher Onizuka for best comedy.

It has everything comedy should have. I wide variety of gags. Sometimes just silly,, sometis slapstick, sometimes pretty clever, sometimes parody, and sometimes suprisingly black. The top thing is, that it just makes one laugh his/her ass off. Onizuka is a hilarious character with all his pros and cons.

But most importantly, it has the thing many comedies lack in my opinion. It has other another, deeper level. It isn't just superficial fun for laughs. It has a message. Something to tell.

Because of its extreme originality.
Because of the comical way that it uses for compare two different cultures like the Japanese and Italian ones.
