Think this arc is to repair the power scale in the manga, while it's unhealthy to think too much in power scales, FT has often been seen as always winning through "love & friendship".. which is one of the mangas weaknesses in terms of realism, so I wouldn't be surpriced if this is what Mashima is attempting, his a young writer isn't he?

So including all the old characters Mashima can justify the past manga events, if he plays this right.
Also it would be perfect conditions to set up the basic grounds for a new major, perhaps final arc, who knows, something BIG really seems to come after this arc, or it'll cut midway into a final part of the arc.

I like the idea of a ex-Edolas guild, maybe a good version of some past enemies, but I would be glad with completely new characters too.

edit: They just introduced the third team and you are talking about the pricipal stuff like Mashima, realism, win through love&friendship and the last arc. Why put the power talk in here, where it will be archieved in forgotten instead of giving it it's own attention in another thread that wont vanish within a week of two? The key reason for the moving was the talk about Maschima, you will have to accept that, it's not my decision how you will handle the rest. Everything is Imo as always.

It's VERY on-topic, combine the interview with the still unknown guild that will be revealed next chapter, how can you say it's off-topic?
Power scale discussion is a tool to find out who exactly that guild might be, a theoretical tool no less, however, everything here is theoretical.

My theory for the next chapters:
I guess that the missing guild is a Fairy Tail B team (my guesses:Luxus, Fried, Mira, Cana and Juvia)
It is a pure fighting tournament. There are always two guilds against each other. It begins with the quarterfinals.
My guesses for the battles:

Quarterfinals:
Fairy Tail vs Lamia Scale /Winner: Fairy Tail
Sabertooth vs Quatro Cerberus /Winner: Sabertooth
Raven Tail vs Blue Pegasus /Winner: Raven Tail
Mermaid Heel vs New Guild (Fairy Tail B Team) /Winner: New Guild

Semifinals:
Sabertooth vs New Guild /Winner: Sabertooth
Fairy Tail vs Raven Tail

And I think that something will happen during the Fairy Tail vs Raven Tail battle and the tournament will be cancel.

Next chapter will probably involve individual character introductions of the final two guilds.
Also, a thing about last chapter, on this page http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/23344827/18 the guy in the second panel down on the left, he appears to be saying "Did they say dark guild?" and looks like he's twirling his left hand. What the hell is he doing with his right hand up some girl's shirt?!

Anyway, time to get serious. I bet FT will win this tournament, or at least beat up a bunch of baddies and come close to first, because they need jobs.

I'd like to see some of the aged (post-timeskip) characters join the fight now. Maybe keep Natsu and co out of the first half by way of the tournament.

Also, it's possible that Laxus and Gajeel have been captured by Raven tail. Laxus for his lacrima, and Gajeel because he was found out (Ivan dreyar seems pretty smart, so I figure he knows about Gajeel now). Hmm, I went a bit haywire with the speculation there, ah well.

Maybe Raven tail will escape the ultimate fairy tail friendship beatdown for this arc, and the other evil will cop it instead, who knows.

I wouldn't be surprised if Raven Tail is behind this whole dark magic from the magic games phenomena.

It's been mentioned. My guess is that the "girl" is supposed to be a hand puppet, seeing as by the placement, he doesn't just have his hand under her shirt, but has his arm in her chest.

I wouldn't be surprised if Raven Tail is behind this whole dark magic from the magic games phenomena.

Possible, but keep in mind this is apparently the first time Raven Tail's entered the tournament.

I don't know why, and maybe it's just me, but I would LOVE it if one of the 2 remaining teams ends up being Edolas's own fairy tail. It has been 7 years since they whole edolas thing so maybe somehow they got transported to this world. I just think it would be awesome to see the other fairy tail whoop some ass and even somehow win at the event

The thing is, the discussion is only valid now, as soon we get next chapter it's outdated, as we'll know who the second guild will be. This is also why we got these threads, for short term discussions, which is exactly the point of them instead of many small short term threads dieing out fast due to be outdated. This is fact, and not opinion.
The absurd power scale has been discussed many times, but currently is a great time for Mashima to fix it, given the current circumstances, tournament with old characters etc. etc.
If his purpose is to balance the manga a bit more, and thus avoid the bashing of unreal feeling towards it, then there is a high possibility you can predict what guild might be the 2nd.

This is why it's on-topic, assuming Mashima is holding to his words from that interview.

So the 2nd yet to be revealed guild is;
- A known Guild and fought Fairy Tail once
- A new Guild and unknown members.
- A known Guild with unknown members...
- A new Guild with known members...
etc. etc.

So, here is where the "imo" is
Which of these would you think is likely? or one not listed?

What strikes me with this cliffhanger is that there is something special about this 2nd yet to be revealed guild, for all we know, it could be another dark guild been registered, and in that case, possibly someone fairy tail once fought.

Say someone predicts this outcome, it means that power scale discussions becomes on-topic, as which of the guilds Fairy Tail fought, was the most unrealistic? Possibly a candidate of the unknown "2nd" Guild.

So, yes, a lot is "imo" here, but you can't say it's "imo" on-topic / off-topic.
It clearly has relations to both current and next chapter, and it'd be a waste to make a new thread for it when it's old after next release.

Anyway, anyone has suggestions for this 2nd guild, who they might be? known or unknown guild/mages?

Sadly though, I think it would ruin the tournament if they turned out to be one of the yet to be revealed guilds.. Epic for comic releaf though

If Mystogan was leading, I would be all for this idea (sure, he's not actually in Edolas FT, but earthland don't know that)

Also, Krono, it's not really relevant whether Raven tail only got into the tournament this year, as a matter of fact, it could all have been a plan to get back at Fairy tail.

We did see Ivan saying that he's "waited patiently and quietly", so, yeah, he somehow knew that they'd survived the Tenrou island incident. It doesn't really matter if they hadn't been in the tournament for previous years, since he could have been setting up for the year Fairy tail would come back (in full form, that is). Don't know about the dark force, might be the Raven Tail mages presence itself, who knows, maybe they have taken down the castle, that castle looks damn ominous.

Also, sorry for bringing up the weird guy again, so many comments, tl;dr and all that.
