Father and son backstory perhaps.
I agree I also saw the similarity between them as many other forum members did, but the thing is I don't think they are father and son. At best they should be grandpa and grandson, because Midora and Ichiryu are from the same time as Acacia and were his deciples, thus they are really, really old.
Very true....in my excitement i forgot to take their age into account...then again whose to say that these old men still aren't.......ahem popular with the ladies
I'd say that Stajyun looks more like Midora to be honest. I think it'd be quite random if Sani is related to him actually. I mean, how would that contribute to the story?
But anyway, it's probably just the way the author chooses to draw the characters. It can't be helped if we see certain similarities between characters sometimes.
Of course he might be still popular with women, but I don't think he is that interested in them, seeing his character in last chapters.)
The thing is that they don't only look alike, but also Midora's and Sani's abilities look pretty similar. Especially when in the last chapter Midora stopped the man who is an aid to a Executive Chef.
I think Midora uses the techniques from of all the 4 kings. Ichiryu taught them each one so they could oppose Midora together, so Midora has long hair like Sunny, but also uses poison, sonic waves and brute strength...
Maybe you have a point.
I actually thought that Toriko might have some abilities from Ichiryu. And other two Heavingly Kings have unique abilities or have abilities of other famous Bishokuya's of Ichioryu's age.
Not sure about father and son, but I do think they seem to be related. I disagree with Stajun, its just his hair style, for all we know his abilities are different.
It's their hair and face shape, nothing more. They are totally different. Midora's taste in food is more, out-of-the-world, compared to Sunny's preference in 'beautiful' cuisine. The things Midora ate would make Sunny vomit. Ugh...
I believe the difference is that Midora's aim is higher. He wants his cells to evolve as much as posible, hence he tries to eat every good ingridient, while Sani rejects tons of them just because he doesn't like their appearence or something like facial expretions after tasting the ingridients (as it was with Toriko, Komatsu and others with Century Soup).
i thought Stajyun was a manly version of Sani, it'll be crazy if there was a relation between the two
It would be somewhat interesting if Midora and Sunny are related, but if Staa is also some sort of a relative... that would be interesting to see a confrontation between them.
Also we shouldn't forget about Rin.
With the new chapters out, Toriko seems to start to look like Midora.
Scars beneath the eye.
Just a long shot here
I think the similarities are only there because they might be a master student relationship type. I doubt they would have had any sexy time considering the lack of attractive female anywhere and their ultimate quest for food. The closest relative we have seen is Rin-Sani sibling. Other than that just master student. Just guessing here tho
I believe, taking into account recent chapters, that is just how author draws his characters. First time when Staajyun appeared I thought "Sunny". Few chapters ago everybody thought Otake was Toriko's clone or something. When Toriko arrived with his new hair he looked exactly like Midora. It's just the art style.
