Or, Ohba and Obata decide to let Azuki lose and extend/drag the the story like they did to DN... I call for Ririka-chan

Just like majority of the readers, I don't fancy the idea of dragging the story some more, but at the same time, if it's Azuki who will be the winner, then it's too predictable and such ending wouldn't impress me...

Usually I would have a problem with it,too, but in this case,it would be a well deserved win. She's studied this script more than any other girl and desires this role.So seeing her win is not unlikely and would totally fit in the story.

Too predictable? This is shonen, of course the ending is predictable, what matters is how we get there. No, what would have sucked is if O&O just gave Azuki the role, but they haven't, they're making her fight for it, they're showing us how she earns it. Rather, if Azuki doesn't get the part, then the dream is destroyed because she didn't live up to her part, they made the anime, now she has to play the voice.

Beats having it be too linear, you know.

Imagine most of us thinking Azuki will get it effortlessly, but then we see some panels where some think otherwise or think Otsuki or Natara was better or we don't see any panel of viewers complimenting Azuki. And then, say, we get a cliffhanger right at the end when they reveal the number of votes. It adds to the tension. I don't know if you remember, but what I'm getting at is I want that feeling like back when they had hopes riding on Hitman Ten/Future Watch.

And besides, it's not like we can hear the audition so reaction panels are honestly a minimum....
Right, don't misunderstand me, I don't want her to get the part effortlessly, and I defiantly want to see commentary dissecting they Seiyuu, I just want Azuki's performance to go unhindered by commentary, maybe shocked and intense expressions, but no words to cut hers. It flow better that way, in my opinion.

Not if it's Obata's series. When DN was approaching it's ending, we were never know who was gonna win, Light or N. And that wasn't the only variable we (I) had in mind. How Light or N gonna best each other, what will happen after that, etc. And going back further we had HG. Japan lost, Koyo (and Toya) never had their revenge on Sakurai, Sakurai never came back, etc. Well the author wasn't Ohba but it was still Obata's piece

We knew from the start of the series that Bakuman will have it's ending in M+A wedding party, and judging by how the story flows right now, we gonna have that in no time. Azuki will conquer the voters, and that's it. Anything beyond that would be Bleachingly boring... and well that doesn't sound like Obata...

First off, the author WAS Ohba; the same two that are doing Bakuman now, did Death Note. Second, you're comparing two different sub genres of Shonen. Death Note is a classified as Shonen, but is heavy on the Hikō (committing crimes) aspect, a very dark and morbid psychological Shonen, whereas Bakuman is a slice of life Shonen with light comedy and a touch of romance that becomes more in-dept as the story nears its climax. While its true the writers are the same, they are talented enough not to make their stories under such a weak parallel structure that we should expect a reoccurring story-line in all of their pieces. Least it be tastefully done under the artistic intent. And they would be no means write the same way for two different genres. You shouldn't expect what you see from Death Note to appear in Bakuman; the mood, tone, setting, story-line, characters, everything is completely different.

Lol, I find it interesting that you contradicted yourself; first saying we don't know where the story could go, then claiming we know it ends with Azuki getting the part, and that it would be boring otherwise... so tell me, what do you really mean?

    Re: Bakuman 171 Discussion / 172 Predictions

I think the better question is how long does Bakuman have left. The dream set from the beginning is nearing completion, there would be MANY frustrated fans if Azuki doesn't earn the role.

This sort of ploy kinda reminds me of Berserk after Griffith went godlike. We know that Guts and Griffith won't ever lose until their next battle, we just wonder why they'll pull it off each time.

Well, the good news is: If Bakuman was to end. At least SOMEONE from either the real Jump staff or the assisstants of O&O would have put something on Twitter about the series to end soon. I recall something about that on Psyren and Oumagadoki ending.
indeed the text above is only my humble opinion

Is it a iron rule that they must inform us on a web service prior to the closure of a series? I don't think I've heard of any such rule while reading Bakuman, which is based on the manga process. Throughout all the manga I've read, I've noticed that they always do inform you of the ending, however, this is done within that the series chapters itself. About 3-5 chapters prior to the last chapter, the last page of each chapter host an announcement stating that the series will end in so many chapters. This has been the only forewarning I have receive, so unless I am ignorant, I believe it is the only enforced practice. Regardless, I don't believe there is anymore than two or three arcs left, and soon we shale receive the announcement of FIN within the next 30 chapters. Whether this is posted on Twitter or not, I have no idea, and its of no consequence.

I just want Bakuman to end soon, because it feels as if it is the best time to effectively end it. As Negima with Crow, I want Bakuman to stay an amazing manga with an amazing ending... I feel that time is now.

I would understand if Bakuman ended soon. It wouldn't surprise me that this was the final arc.

UNLESS they come up with some very cool stuff they have never done, like a long lasting manga. They have said Reversi won't last long, but they are far too young to call it a career yet.

If they really want to be the "Flagship", they have to do something so huge, it becomes multimedia: videogames, mechandising, anime, movies, databooks, etc.

I think that is were PCP comes in because from our understanding PCP is still running in the monthly magazine.

PCP is no longer in Jump, and even if it was, it was never and will never be a flagship. Of course I believe without a doubt they'll continue their career after Reversi and eventually make a long running flag ship, but it is not necessary that we see this happen. The story has always been leading up to their dream of Anime/Azuki Seiyuu heroin/marriage, so when that's accomplished its over, that's all their is to it.

    Re: Bakuman 172 Spoiler Thread

HOLY CRAP, SHE COMPLETELY OWNED THEM. AKJDLAKJDFLAJFD!! : D

    spoiler summary
Chapter 172: Miho and Naho (the chapter title itself is a spoiler...)

Continuing from where we left off last week, Azuki stands before the microphone which lead to her dreams. She begins reading back the script and everybody's making nice comments so far, and even pointing out how she's going script-less.

Until she reads one line wrong. She said "black demon" instead of "white demon", in one line.

And this is when the other seiyuus grin, Ishizawa grins, and the netizens gasp. Once she finishes though, she leaves quite the lasting impression (note the double spread page) on everybody. And in the waiting corridor, Otsuki points out her performance was nice but she made an error when reading the dialogue, the studio won't gloss over that mistake. Before #9 takes her stand, the producer makes an interlude.

Apparently, #7 Azuki Miho in the place where it read "white demon" said "black demon" instead. But this is actually an error on their part. The script they had for the audition was based on the serialization manuscripts. In the manuscripts, it has "white demon" in it which is a printing error, which has been corrected in the tankobons (now reads "black demon"). And so she's not completely wrong, nor are the earlier seiyuus (#1-6, 8), and that the rest use "black demon" instead (out of respect to the mangakas).

At the end of the audition, which lasted 3 hours, the sound director thanks them all for their work. One seiyuu holds up Azuki's copy of the script she left on the chair and makes a fuss about it. Noting that the script doesn't have any notes in it or not even looking like it's been so much as opened, she makes an accusation that she knew the script by heart because she has connections with Ashirogi Muto. That's also why she knew the correct line was "black demon" instead of "white demon". But Goda-san stands up for her. And the sound director also stands up for her saying the script they've used for the audition, even Ashirogi Muto hasn't seen it so it's not possible. Sound director tells them all they'll be in contact with whoever won, which will be announced live at 3pm on 27th and on TV this time as well. On their way out, Azuki thanks Goda-san for what just happened.

The days leading up to 27th, we see people discussing who they think will take it, everybody's saying it'll be out of Azuki, Otsuki, Natara, and Goda, these four.

    On the 27th, 3pm.

At the studio, everybody's a bit nervous and Kaya even goes so far is to say, the assistants will be here soon after, and then Hattori-san will be coming tonight to pick up teh manuscript, if it goes bad there's gonna be a gloomy atmosphere in the air. Takagi says she's thinking too much. At Azuki's place, her mom tells her Mina wants them to all watch it together in the lounge.

    The live broadcast comes on.

    There were 241,728 votes altogether.

Note the amazing double spread here.

    #7. Azuki Miho. 102,801. Votes.

    She won!!!!!!!!!!! : D

    And everybody cries, shouts, etc.

Mashiro falls out of his chair from [silent] excitement (same as that time when anime was announced pretty much).

Kaya: "What's the matter, what's wrong, did he faint?!"
Takagi: "He's been nervous the entire day, so he's practically worned out now that he's relaxed"
Kaya: "No worries though right? Hey should we call an ambulance?"
    Takagi: "It's okay..."

Mashiro: "It's great"."This is really great...".

Takagi: "Yep! This is great! This is really great now, Saiko!"

    Mashiro: "Yup, Azuki's really amazing"
    Takagi: "Yep, amazing, very amazing"
    Kaya: "Uuwahhh~"
