From what I have read, I have the impression that the way a comic signature is handled is note the same in every country. So can you explain how does it takes place in yours ?
In France the most important to know is that it's free. You won't have to pay for the author to draw you something. You don't even have to buy some of the author work, some fans have signature books where they collect the drawings of the different artists but most of the time people make the artist draw on the back of the cover of one of the author comic.
Most of the time the signature takes place in comics festivals which regroup several authors but a bookstore can invite a single author for a signature event.
The author will sign for a few hours so if he is famous it is better to come early. When it is your turn he will ask you what should be the subject of the drawing then he will draw in a few minutes what would take you hours, meanwhile you idly chat with him.
