I'm still kind of unsure about Apollon but I'll definitely try and watch Medaka.

A good mystery to me is one that is both surprising and satisfying. Even if it ends up being something like a husband killing his wife, I want to be surprised that it was him (because he seemed innocent) and satisfied knowing his dark side came to light. When a mystery isn't surprising half the fun is gone, really. Columbo is great because it actually flips the murder mystery formula on its head: You know who did it within the first five minutes of the show, the rest of it is about how the murderer tries and fails to get away with it.

I'd recommend Neuro in a heartbeat, but its not really a mystery manga. I mean, it has tons of mysteries that the hero and heroine solve, but its more about Neuro's relationship with humans, with a bunch of sadism thrown in.

I'm not sure if I have the channel its going to air on. But if its on I'll totally watch it!

Cricket is the most popular sport in Pakistan, and in its original British raj form its quite boring. A single match can last 3 days. But the ICC have updated the sport to have One Day Internationals (4~5 hrs) as well as Twenty-20s (1.5 to 2 hours). I find cricket interesting because when you are up to bat you aren't acting alone - you have a batting partner. Also, the way players get out is more interesting than in baseball, personally.

I totally agree, if you can already guess the culprit it gets rather boring as long as there isn't a totally surprising way he did it or some overlaying scheme. Everything has to make sense (in the specific universe) and should be executed in a more or less entertaining way. Did you hear about UN-GO? Rather average/boring at the beginning but later episodes are quite well done, especially the little supernatural aspect spices things up.

and I've watched Columbo, like you mentioned it's the opposite of the usual formula. Always thought it was kinda silly though @@

One of mine would definitely be the time of the Roman Empire (6. Century BC to 7. Century AD), there's quite a lot you can learn from their political and military struggle. The Greeks, especially the Athens democracy, and the Renaissance are quite interesting too. It's always fascinating to read about trailblazers.

I have a feeling One Piece has been drawing a lot of older readers to Jump recently, along with established readers growing up but not growing out of Jump. It is very interesting that rather than resist their new audience, Jump seems to be embracing older teen readers.

To be honest, whatever the reasons, I think Jump's become a lot more progressive because of it. You have newer manga magazines that are breaking down the mutual exclusivity of genre and demographic, which is great. Threads like "why do girls prefer shonen" will become redundant in a few years as there will probably be enough boys reading shoujo to cancel out the discussion all together.

If I am not mistaken the partition triggered one of the largest migrations in human history. The refugee crisis triggered is simply staggering. We are taught somewhat of it in school here, if I remember correctly. Nothing quite equals the turmoil caused by the collapse of an empire. Western Europe needs 1400 years to completely recover from the collapse of Rome.

I really love the parallel you brought up. My mom often laments on how even though the British brought great civility and progress to India, when they left it was like they never were responsible to begin with. Just as the collapse of the Roman Empire led to Europe's Dark Ages, I am sure Pakistan is going through the same growing pains (to put it lightly).

I have had a hard time placing recent arcs in context of the greater story since the move. The last WSJ arc, at the orphanage, was fine. It's been since the special chapter in Akamura Jump that I have had trouble following the story. I haven't given up on DGM yet, I've been following it a real long time, but it definitely frustrates me. It's one of my first manga, so it still has some nostalgic appeal.

To be totally frank, I think Hoshino as an author gets too involved in her work. She can generate a lot of emotion but the problem is since her move to SQ there's just too much of it on each page. She said once in an interview that she does a lot in order to get herself in the right mood to draw a sad scene. It sounded like method acting for the mangaka.

I am the same as you, though. I'm not giving up on it, I'm just taking a break.

Quite a few well known titles. While it is more of a quirky, less mainstream magazine, it is more popular online than Young Magazine, Kodansha's seinen flagaship. There are a lot of interesting, obscure series available in English but some of the better known I can think of are: Blame, Mushishi, Ah My Goddess, Mysterious Girlfriend X, Historie, Afternoon, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Me and the Devil Blues. I noticed that, that the dress and customs of each village is different. Amira is so much more assertive than Tama, who is also so different than the twins. I really like how she got a lot of the history right, with British agents and explorers moving north from Pakistan, and Russian military moving south, forming alliances with some tribes, attacking others.

What I love the most is how Mori writes naivete without obfuscating stupidity. These are really rural places, but they are also quite well connected with each other. They know what's going on, but not in a way that breaks the 4th wall. She's awesome.

UN-GO sounds a lot like a gender-bender version of Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, seriously! I might check it out sometime. Actually, if you like sci-fi and mystery, you should check out Mononoke. It's beautifully animated, and the mysteries are appropriately creepy.

Aww. I can understand your point, but I just love how the killer unravels into a helpless pile of nerves by the end of it. It's a lot more satisfying to me. And Columbo himself purposely acts like a clueless wit in order to make his suspects open up. Oh well, to each their own.

It's a good series. Neuro did run in Jump, but it always had dodgy ratings. It got a late-night anime as well, but it was mostly filler.

They wouldn't go for 3 days straight. Just....IDK. Apparently it was the game for the rich, so they could afford to spend as much time as possible. I'm not sure what matches are ongoing currently, nor am I watching any myself.

I definitely believe in a higher being, and I believe that there were people who were sensitive to it, hence we have prophets and holy books. I can't really classify myself as anything other than Muslim, though.

Pre-Islamic Arab history is anything before 570 AD. Kuwaiti history isn't really that odd, at most maybe 300 years. Most of the juicy stuff comes in the 50s and 60s though, when it went under modernization.

I like the Renaissance as well, especially the arts and literature. I watched a program where a man and a woman had to eat and drink like they were in the Elizabethan era, and it was really eye-opening, even if the show itself is more comedy based. No vegetables, and everyone was constantly drunk.
