    ゆく and ゆけ

    I'd like to know what the difference is between them. I do remember learning about it years ago but since I have a terrible memory, I'm not sure anymore

    For example, what would be the difference between 溺れてゆく and 溺れてゆけ?

    Re: ゆく and ゆけ

    I'm not very good at explanation, but I'll try it.

    Quote Quote:
    ゆく and ゆけ
    ゆく I go to school 学校に行く (simple present tense)
    ゆけ go to school!, hurry! 学校に行け!はやく!(telling someone what to do)
    ----------------------------------
    You should change the example you wrote. Because people barely say the later word.
    I explain with different words;
    Quote Quote:
    飛んでゆく
    in this case, it usually represents "present progressive form"

    Quote Quote:
    飛んでゆけ
    It's like yelling at a balloon "go start flying"
    -----------------------------------------------

    I hope my explanation is good enough for you to understand. But probably other people got better explanation than mine.

    Re: ゆく and ゆけ

    ゆく = Present/Future Statement Verb
    ゆけ = Imperative Verb (like in giving orders)

    So, 溺れてゆく is "<Someone> is drowning" and 溺れてゆけ is "<You> go drown".

    .-.

    Right! I get it now. Thanks so much for helping!

    Er, about the example, I just picked a random word from a song I was supposed to translate. Haha...
