Does it top Community in your opinion? It's really only ad 1.5 seasons since the first season was only half length. I enjoyed it more this year than Community personally.

Season 1 was short, it's a shame. I'm only at ep14 so far in season 2, but so far Happy Endings has been great in my opinion. Community has quite a few of those hit or miss episodes that you don't really feel but watch for entertainment regardless. Some of my favorite episodes of Community have been in season 3, but the season overall has been worse than the first two. I'm kind of past the Community hype and just gotten into Happy Endings so I'm not sure if my opinion is totally fair at the moment. But if I'd go by seasons I'd rate HE s2 > Community s3, possibly. I'll reserve final judgement until I'm up to date.

Yeah, it's always a current thing. This year I most looked forward to watching Happy Endings and Parks & Recreation more than any other comedies I watched.

I might have to check out P&R at a later time. I downloaded Modern Family a while back, so I'll have to give it a try after I finish HE. Have you watched 30 Rock? If so, opinions?

I've seen a bunch of 30 Rock. It's a funny show, but I have a hard time making a point to watch something while it airs if I haven't seen all of it. I've never gone back and watched it from the beginning. That's the only way you get a full appreciation for a show in my opinion.

Modern Family is a really good show, but I've missed a lot of episodes from this season.

Actually the first person to rec it to me was sahu, but I kept always forgetting about it. Then, when I was actually in London, Sai, kaylee, and her hubby were talking about watching some of it, so we decided to check out one of the episodes. I can't wait to see when Moriarity shows up. Your description makes him sound so perfect.

    Yeah, yeah.....

I don't know that I'll continue with Avatar, honestly. :x I did like it, but I don't know. I have other priorities, I guess. Sorry.

    Lol. I can't say he's not attractive, because he definitely is, but he's not really my type of guy.... too beefcake-y for my taste. I like nerdier guys, usually >.>;

    Sorry?

I had never watched any of it until last September when Sai came to visit me. We watched a ton of episodes. I'm not even sure where we left off, lol. I suppose my Netflix would tell me, but I'm too lazy to check it.

Anyway, just reporting in and saying that I LOVE Happy Endings. Every character is epic, just love it! It's the perfect show for me. It's already in my list of favorite comedy shows. I'm somewhere in mid-season 2 now and it's awesome. For once there's not a single character I don't like in a series. If I'd had to choose I'd say Brad is my favorite, he's simply hilarious. Of course it helps that Elisha's hawtness is in the series, hurr.
I'm back now, but I did have a great time. Don't be jelly.

Anyway, yay! So glad you're loving Happy Endings! Brad is easily my favorite, as well. And I love he and Jane together as a couple. So hilarious and so perfect for each other. Max is epic, too.... and Penny. Alex and Dave are probably my least favorites. They have their funny moments here and there, but overall they're just ok/good for me.... not great like the others.

Same with me! They're almost always the first two things I watch on my DVR when I'm just going through and watching my weeklies that I've recorded.

Cool cool cool. I do watch 30 Rock as well. Great show, in my opinion, but I love Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, and Alec Baldwin. The older episodes are really, really funny. In the recent couple of seasons, there have been some really hit or miss episodes... and some things that have gotten a bit repetitive/old (like Kenneth, imo -- it seems like they almost don't know what to do with his character anymore)... but I still like it overall. I'm not sure if you'd be into it or not, though... maybe. It can be pretty ridiculous at times. But the writing is smart... I mean, it's Tina Fey. Have you seen much of anything she's written? Mean Girls, SNL, etc?

More, give me more comedy shows!

I need more alternatives to choose from before I make up my mind

So, P&R is one option. What else!

Louie is a pretty good show. It isn't your typical comedy though.

Thanks! I had a great time in Vegas. Spent plenty of time in the casinos doing all the things you'd expect. And I did meet some guys, actually... both nerdy and not. :3

Let's see... we already talked about 30 Rock and It's Always Sunny. Ok... how about Arrested Development?

Never watched it, but I do like Louis CK a lot. I always forget about this show somehow.

Ah, forgot about Always Sunny! Gonna download the first season.

I'm so sad there's only two (1 1/2) seasons of Happy Endings. Such an awesome show...

I watched the pilot of 30 Rock but it really failed for me. The quality of the episode didn't help either, but I'll try to give it a try. I tend to find pilots rather average on an overall basis. Modern Family's pilot was okay.

Oh, Arrested Development has a 9,4(!!) on IMDB! I'm definitely checking it out.

Louie is sort of like a slice-of-life comedy series. It's pretty nuanced and dark. But it's one of my favorite shows.

Re: Is a hippopotamus a hippopotamus or just a really cool opotamus?

    Woot.

I'm the same way with pilots. Community's pilot was a big let-down for me, for example, but I ended up loving the show. I actually never saw the Modern Family pilot, so I don't know how it compares to the rest of the series. I started watching when it was a few episodes into the first season already. Can't remember the 30 Rock pilot, but I thought I liked it. That whole style just might not be your cup of tea, which is fine.

Arrested Development has a huge cult following, so I'm not surprised it's rated so highly on IMDB. It's a brilliant show... a little weird at times, but always hilarious. Pretty much every character on there is insane.

I'm going to have to check out Louie. Dark comedy, slice of life.... sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Re: Is a hippopotamus a hippopotamus or just a really cool opotamus?

It's only natural really, as shows tend to get better and better the more they run as the crew get to know each other better and the characters are more exploited. Until the shows hit their peaks and start going downwards that is. Even so I find it strange that I so rarely am left with an impression of "this show looks really good", or just "wow!".

If we go over on more serious shows, take Dexter for example. I'm not sure if you follow it or not, but the pilot was so weird. Well Dexter himself was super weird and inhuman in season 1 to begin with. But that pilot was such a hit or miss, and many are.

A show that had a great pilot though was HIMYM. Basically just because Barney was hilarious from the first episode and totally won the show from the start.
