They usually get small tweaks here and there, but occasionally they'll have completely new designs. Compare the Seahawks jersey this year to last years. They'll get different alternate uniforms as well. The Ravens alternate uniform had been black on top and bottom and since our new coach came, he switched it to purple on top and black on bottom. Occasionally they'll wear the blacked out ones though. Our away uniform used to be white on top and white on the bottom, now the bottoms are black. Uniforms get tweaked regularly, colors a little less so, but the Seahawks did that this year.

And even every jersey changed a bit this season since Nike obtained the uniform contract after Reebok had it for ages. It wasn't colors, but material and fit.

I believed there are some radical changes in historic jersey of soccer teams but I'm not really sure about American footballs though. I found it pretty great, mainly because of Tsukuyo, Gin being badass like always, and the needed SMALL bits of history exploration. It was satisfying seeing Gin feel so personal about a student/master relationship.

The student-master relationship probably would be the sole Gin's motivation to do anything though , the topics would be explained further in the storyline, so you do not have to worry about Gintoki's past explanation

Soccer kits change a lot, especially with all the alternate jerseys and stuff. There might not be too many drastic changes in American Football compared to Soccer though. Usually color changes are done to make jerseys and logos look more modern. The most drastic change in color that I can think of is probably the Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform change.

They still wear the "Creamsicle" uniforms as retro here and there (the one in the middle). That was the uniform from when they entered the league as an expansion franchise. The uniform today is red and pewter, compared to the original which is red/light-orange/white. Most of the color changes are using maybe deeper shades of the same color (Jets, Eagles, Patriots come to mind).
