The funny thing is, when people are fighting, they complain and say they want to see anothher fight or they want some new info to get a better understanding. When there are flashbacks, people are complaining about wanting to see fights and complain that the flashback disagrees with what was said earlier in the manga, even though we know flashbacks trump word of mouth in manga. If it's a flashback in a person's mind, it's probably what really happened. People need to just go along with the ride. It seems Kishi will get back to the fight this coming chapter. He may even switch to one of the other fights for an update. Flashbacks have to come at some point.

All the negativity in the Naruto forums basically comes down to one thing: "Complaints". And being the almighty author, Kishi naturally takes the brunt of these complaints. The fantastic thing about this issue is, no matter what he does, there is bound to be complaints or even accussations against him.

All major good guys surviving the war = Kishi is trolling the bad guys

Major good guy/girl got killed off = He/she was trolled by Kishi

Guys being awesome = Kishi is a sexist

Girls being awesome = Oh but the strongest character is still a guy, Kishi still sexist

Flashbacks = OMG, stop inserting useless flashbacks between fights!!!

No flashback = LOL Kishi sucks at character development

You could be right IF there was any plot development on a "boring mysterious character". So far we have seen nothing important, besides 1 or 2 small details, in the last, i don't know, i stopped to count... the last 5 chapters?

Try two and a half chapters. If you have to stop count after two and a half chapters... *sigh*

And you may find him boring, but Kabuto has been a favorite of mine since he first debuted in chapter 39. So, personally I'd rather learn more about Kabuto than watch the Great Undying Lord Itachi kill off more characters while he's already got both feet in the grave.

His strength and upgraded status in the world is no surprise to me, because as I said once or twice before, he's always reminded me of a specific character from the ninja anime Yotoden, who was the villain's right hand man, but at the very end is revealed to be the mastermind behind everything that had transpired.

I don't mind having a flashback from a certain character... It's nice to have intel on one's motivation and what lead him to be what he is right now... What i was debating (and not complaining) is that certain aspects of what is revealed contradicts or puts to question in some fashion what was lead to know before... That's why i posted that time line in my previous post, so we could discuss the chain of events, and how it all conects... For instance, I wouldn't mind having just a panel, a very little one showing Orochimaru running in the backs of Sarutobi just after Kabuto accepts his offer... Something to connect the dots, if you know what i mean... Having a concetion between Kabuto's flashback and some events that we know of... I wasn't debatting who's older and who's younger... I was just trying to connect Kabuto's past to other events known to us, like Kyuubi's rampage on Konoha, and other stuff, and still am... Maybe this afternoon i'll take some time and do some research... But i'm very much "know the past to understand the present" kind of guy!
I'm not just someone hungry for hard core carnage, far from it...

@ryr Thank you, that's exactly my point! This manga is all about kishi's artistic vision, if you don't like it, don't read it. If you have so many better ideas than him, then become a mangaka and make a better manga. Every manga or anime that I've seen where the author listened to the numerous inevitable complaints he recieved via fan mail was always terrible. It's impossible to please everyone all the time, but really if they dislike it that much, then they should stop reading for a bit, wait half a year and then start reading it again, skipping the parts they don't like, clearly since they are unable to do that it can't be that terrible. Some people just like one character so much that they find it unbearable to have him present but not getting screen time.

@suzaku Exactly, kabuto was always the character everyone speculated about the most, from the very start we always wondered about him and he had always seemed destined for something big. I think somewhere along the line he became shoved to the side though.

@da_ni It's ok you know some seriously epic fights are coming up. It's very unlike kishi to leave a stone unturned, he will probably resolve every single question and show us every single thing we've always wanted to see. I bet that we will all walk away from this series completely satisfied. I myself am waiting to see naruto and every other ninja in the manga vs a tobi merged with the statue while hosting the juubi or something as over the top as that. Who knows though, no matter how it ends, I am very thankful to have read this series, this comes from someone who started reading it right after the second volume was released, it's really an integral part of my life. I hope you enjoy your research too, I always love any excuse to re-read any part of it.

Danzo had 100x more character development potential then Kabuto, yet Kishi didn't even think twice about killing him. So as far as i can see Kabuto is screwed no matter what happens after this flashback.

Agree, Danzo could serves as a villian after the war. He could start the Konoha inner conflict between anbu and roots.

I don't think it's a good idea. This would be too late. After the war everyone will probably worship Naruto, the villages would probably be on verge of ubber unity, there would be nothing left for Danzou. He lifts a finger against anyone Naruto cares, he would have the entire world against him.

Danzo had a lot of potential to do cool stuff, but I think Kishimoto couldn't make him fit into his longterm plans for the series. He mainly acts as a motivator/scapegoat for villains who want to destroy Konoha, probably because just about everyone else from Konoha is prone to giving speeches about the importance of friendship and following your heart.

Isn't that what made their potential conflict interesting, that Danzo and the Elders weren't the sort of opponent Naruto could simply defeat by punching? Danzo clearly knew how to play politics and manipulate people, so to defeat him, Naruto would have had to develop some actual leadership skills. He would have had to actually put effort in telling people why they should do this and that, instead of just acting as he wanted.

Yeah but there is the war after effect, Danzou can't "surf" on that, he hasn't any grasp on this victory and the huge step towards unification. I mean, yeah he used to surf on people's existing hatred or threat to reach his ultimate goal, but after the war, people would just listen to Naruto's side than him anyway. As I said, Naruto would be worshiped (even Raikage was aware of this prophecy) and Danzou already lost all his credibility at the Kage meeting previously. The gap is freaking huge at this point.

I sure Danzo probably could have played upon the feelings towards Sasuke, depending on how things went. But yeah, the Naruto vs Danzo confrontation would have had to take place before the Fourth War.

imo,danzo was needed to show that there are characters who,despite being "good",behave in an evil way. that made danzo an odd character,called "neutral" even though he acted for peace. that was his first aim,imo.

These last 2-3 chapters were really bad, enough eith Kabuto. It has nothing to do with the story. I would rather want to see what he did after Orochimaru died. He is crazy, he is traumatized, we already knew it. 2 wasted chapters and 1 was after 2 weeks of waiting. It didn't worth it.

i cant wait for weds for the exciting kabuto flashback, this has honestly been the best flashback in the series imo, it has had action, an interesting backstory, and it has been set up at a perfect time in the manga! hopefully we get another 3 weeks of this flashback cuz i dont want it to end : P

Different people want different things out of this story. It is incredibly unrealistic and naive for you to think that people shouldn't critique an artist's work. Whether or not they are justifiable is a completely subjective judgment, and given that forums are meant for discussion, and these particular threads are meant for chapter discussion, what people did and didn't like is obviously going to come out. That's a good thing, not a bad thing.

An open forum with nothing but praise would be frightening.
