I'm not sure Yakitate is a good reference for cooking manga...

Why not? Yakitate was hilarious and it actually got me interested in baking stuff xD. Plus the pun-tastic title translates so well to Portuguese (Amassando Ja-pão)!

In the end, it had nothing to do with a cooking manga. And personally I found that really bad.

Any predictions for this week's rankings?

OP or Naruto might be #1. Bleach will hopefully go up a few rankings, #7 or higher. Reborn might stay down in bottom 20. Dunno about the rest.

The dude fromc Bastard! also was a hentai artist.. Magical Taruuruto kun mangaka too.. (But I think he first did Taruuruto, then hentai), I am sure there are a number of mangakas that first did some dojinshi and then did manga for JUMP other magazines.

Watch it, the anime does a finer job of bringing out its humor. Check out the reviews, anyone who actually sat through
at least 10 episodes of the anime will tell you how fine it is, like wine, except way better.
It's one of the best anime/manga out there that you don't know what you are missing.

Really glad that Gintama is top, whatever the arc is, it's about time.

I really don't care about Bleach, that thing is never going to get cancelled.
Not until the sales plummet and the story really goes to shit.

Punk Hazard is a great arc but I can get why op is placed low, it was pretty messy at the start.
but still, nothing can compare to how messy Naruto is.
Yes, I don't care about Naruto's war anymore, I just want it to end.

That's rather amusing, but yeah it shouldn't be entirely surprising that some artists have backgrounds as hentai artists. Though after this bit of news, some things make more sense.

Bastard! mangaka is only an assistant to a hentai mangaka, I think. Don't know about Magical Taruuruto kun mangaka though (I'm not even familiar with the series).

What about doujinka? Hoshino Katsura of D.Gray-man drew Naruto doujinshi before publishing her oneshots. I think Amano Akira drew doujinshi as well. It would be neat to see how much "unofficial" experience Jump mangaka had before making it big. If anything else, it makes for good practice!

There are quite a few mangaka or manhwaka who do their own doujins.

Doujinshi let them try out their own style, while working as an assistant, they've got to follow their boss's style. There are without a doubt some ex-hentai artitist working for Kondansha/Shogakukan and their independent subsidiaries. Masahiro Itosugi or Oh! Great have obvious ties to that industry.
