    Saturn Apartments
    By: IWAOKA Hisae
Genre: Sci-fi, Seinen, Slice of Life
    Original Publisher: Shogakukan
    Serialized In (magazine): Ikki (Shogakukan)

    Mangaupdates

Far in the future, humankind has evacuated the Earth in order to preserve it. Humans now reside in a gigantic structure that forms a ring around the Earth, thirty-five kilometers up in the sky. The society of the ring is highly stratified: the higher the floor, the greater the status. Mitsu, the lowly son of a window washer, has just graduated junior high. When his father disappears and is assumed dead, Mitsu must take on his father's occupation. As he struggles with the transition to working life, Mitsu's job treats him to an outsider's view into the various living-room dioramas of the Saturn Apartments.

Another little jewel from Ikki and another manga from an author I completely put away even tho I enjoyed her works a lot!

I read the poorly scanlated version first and couldn't get into it at all, but then just took the plunge and bought the Viz edition. Freaking loved it.

Yes, it is really hard to get into so it's a work that has to be taken with an open mind to get pass that and allow the humane parts of it, even in the future some contemporary problems remain, maybe if the setting is different we might feel some objective eye to see what we are going through now, tho I imagine if the scan is better the visual experience takes a point.

The only reason I couldn't get into it was the bad translation.

Best be careful for it going out of print, can't imagine these Sig Ikki books staying around for a long time...

Sure is an issue then barba. Well you pretty much do get the setting of it, but with a better translation who knows.

A bad translation can really ruin something for me; I used to not care so much, but now I just straight up ignore something unless there's a proper English adaptation of it.
