I still like Bleach.

Kubo's style can be so avante garde that most of the time you get carte blanche . That's why people don't like it (because most of the time there isn't actually anything happening). But there's a lot of subtlety in the panels that you can only get to if you actually look for it, and for a weekly manga, that's simply not the norm. There's a lot of symbolism and irony in Ulquiorra's and Byakuya's deaths in relation to their lives, for example.

The problem really is that Kubo's a really bad storyteller. You can't get away with literary devices if no one can stand your story. Plus, Ichigo's probably the easiest mindfvcked hero ever.

in other news...

Bought my third volume of Blade of the Immortal today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had only three hours of sleep for two consecutive days (due to a Kdrama (curse you, Asian Drama!!!))

and so I, with my lips paling, heart pounding, skin prickly, eyes itching, 21 hours awake at 25 years old (note: post-college, working life), staggered to the bookstore because it was the final day to claim the book or else they'd forfeit my reservation.

Then I hailed a cab (it's a 15 minute walk to home but...), dozed off when the cab stopped for the red light, instinctively woke up as it stopped at my building, went up the 4th floor through the stairs because the elevator broke, went to my room and SLEPT.

I woke up 5 hours later and the first thing I did was unwrap the book and signed my name on it. WITH THIS LOOK ON MY FACE:

yes both are still ongoing. Vinland Saga is going quite the regular pace monthly.

Vagabond continued from its hiatus a few months ago but scanlations are very slow. I think three chapters behind or something.
