I think what attracted me to much was oddly the darker nature of it, and this was back when I'd flinch in fear from the sight of blood and etc. Something about the way it carried itself and not BS-ing matters like death for both humans and digimon made it oddly interesting for me.

Some of the stuff I haven't really seen yet, like Azumanga Daioh, Akira and Black cat's manga but I'll be sure to give them a try when I have the chance.

I have to say I'm surpised Index was a runner up; don't get me wrong I like it myself, really enjoy it even, but I didn't see that comming...huh...
Index was enjoyable. The characters were fun and exciting. The series follows my second second rule.

3- If both plot and characters are unlikable, drop it.

Err... I think you wrote something about Bleach and the asspull survivals. But the resilience of Bleach chars differs from living human chars.
It was made clear quite early on that wounds that'd kill a human easily don't do much to a spirit, because a spirit doesn't need vital functions of the spiritual body (like no need to eat unless you have some reiatsu output), which only has organs and shit (both figuratively and literally ) to reflect the living body.
This difference was also made clear when

When Kenpachi gets a slash like that, he's like "Oh yeah baby, that's how I like it!"

BTW I agree on Haruhi. I like tsundere (still, despite its sort of overuse), but Haruhi's just acts almighty.

2 things screw up a lot of works: time travel and reviving the dead.

I don't see one piece having particularly good foreshadowing to make Oda the so-called genius. It's like "hey guys, remember that character from 200 chapters ago? Here he is. And you know this character right now? brb in 200 chapters later." Same for plot points and such.

I remember Tamers being weird then, didn't get to finish it though, might pick it up again soon.
My favorite digimon was 4, Frontier or whatever. Felt so cool since we don't have some useless people and their pets, the main characters are the badasses.

what you are missing from the list my friend, is this little gem called houshin engi
    http://www.batoto.net/comic/_/comics/houshin-engi-r3888
please try to give it a go pass the first 3 volume.
Its a shounen from wsj. A battle manga with awesome gags, deep story, tear jerking moments, intelligent read and probably all those good cliche part that you talk about.
Theres no @$$ pull save, unexplainable powerups, annoying flashback, overly stretch out battle etc.
Its a lot like suikoden series if you play it.

That's what I consider foreshadowing. Even if it wasn't accurately, it still shows how much Oda cares about these small details that we didn't think were important at the time and doesn't forget them and knows when to use them.

I did hear about this series but didn't look at it. I may check it out in the future if that's your opinion about it.
