The “Then and Now” anime/manga thread

This is a thread to post the physical changes/transformations that manga/anime characters have gone through during the course of a series.

Here’s my first contribution to this thread:

    Rukia from Bleach.

She has gone through some changes during the course of the series, her hairstyle, her eyes, her face; in short, she is not the same Rukia that we met in the first chapter of Bleach. Whether those changes were for the better or for the worse is up to the fan’s POV, as for me, I think those changes were for the better although I must admit that I wasn’t a big fan of the new haircut when it was first revealed but now…it doesn’t bother me as much.

If you like my avy and sig, then I really recommend you watching Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko. It is great!

Thank you so much for my cute avy and great sig, GenjiChan!

    Askeladd from Vinland Saga.

    From this

    Spoiler show

    to this

    Spoiler show

I always like to show that panel because it made me realize how much he (and others) actually changed over time O__o

Furuichi from Beelzebub looks almost completely different. Why I chose him is because unlike Oga, the hero, Furuichi's generic character design directly reflects the change of the story itself.

    THEN

    NOW

Furuichi is 16, but he looks way older in the first image. Also wtf is up with his bangs?

One of the most significant changes I could think of is Conan (Meitantei Conan). Even the anime character design changed!

    Spoiler: Volume 1 show

Spoiler: Volume 66 (most recent as of September 2012) show

It's been running for 16 years already so it's not a surprise, but it is still striking.

Makino and Tsukasa from Hana Yori Dango.

They both change dramatically over the course of the story, to the extent that the characters that appear in the first chapter of the manga look nothing like the characters that appear at the end of it. In fact, all of the characters change for the better in this manga, at least IMHO they do.

    Takumi from Initial D (anime).

    First Stage:

    Fifth Stage:

From the first stage to the fifth stage, the characters in Initial D have had some changes. It is interesting how while the art itself has conserved its essence, it is not quite the same. The characters look different, more refined? I don’t know if refined is the right word but the way the characters in this series are drawn has definitely changed.

Thank you so much for my cute avy and great sig, GenjiChan!
