Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2012-2013] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 4

    *2 (24) -- *8,070,446 (*1,712,983) - Kuroko no Basuke
    *3 (*2) -- *6,495,240 (*6,874,840) - Naruto
    *8 (13) -- *3,439,839 (*2,922,876) - Hunter×Hunter
    10 (*7) -- *3,211,191 (*4,399,938) - Bakuman.
    11 (*5) -- *3,005,339 (*4,665,634) - Toriko
    12 (*8) -- *2,974,750 (*4,187,258) - Bleach
    13 (*6) -- *2,850,072 (*4,415,491) - Gintama
    14 (12) -- *2,786,109 (*3,157,012) - Sket DANCE
    23 (14) -- *1,879,120 (*2,853,552) - Nurarihyon no Mago
    24 (17) -- *1,844,824 (*2,550,542) - Reborn!
    26 (15) -- *1,714,931 (*2,607,474) - Beelzebub

    ** (33) -- **,***,*** (*1,296,975) - D.Gray-man
    ** (39) -- **,***,*** (*1,111,444) - Medaka Box

The figures in the parentheses are last year's. It looks like most of the series declined compared to last year. It's amazing that Hunter×Hunter can be so high with so few new volumes out.

wow, what a decline. i'll just blame the economy and be done with it.

God knows where Hunter x Hunter would be if it came out regularly

Also Medake completely dropped off this year? Shame, I assumed volume sales were where it did business

It probably made it around somewhere between 30 and 50 this year as well, but I don't know those between 30 and 50, so...

Wow, Naoki Iwamoto's back in action early. I'm expecting and hoping for his comeback series sometime next year.

The one-shot below that XVED's art style is somehow familiar and looks good. Maybe just resembling someone's, not sure by who.

That's Sugie Tasuku-sensei's work. (He won the JUMP Treasure Award for Newcomers in July 2008 with his OS Adrenaline.) It's quite possible you might remember him from somewhere before. He also did Koshien no Mamono in 2011's JUMP Next! [Winter], if I remember correctly. Back then he'd also been collaborating with that author, Taoka Muneaki. (A former winner of JUMP's Story King Award.)

Koshien no Mamono looked darn cool from the preview pic. I never actually got to read it, though. : (

Oh yeah, I think Sugie was also a buddy of HQ!!'s Furudate-sensei.

The sales drop year over year is surprising. Piracy? It's kind of funny to see Sket Dance selling almost as much as Bleach.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2012-2013] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 4

I'm very happy to see both AC and Beelzebub get CPs again so soon.

However, I have to wonder about the timing of Beelzebub's CP. As this is only three weeks after the last one, it kinda feels like it's getting promoted like crazy, like Reborn, Kuroko, Medaka, Nisekoi, Kurogane and Haikyu were months ago.

Is the climax of the latest arc really going to be that great to warrant another CP? Or is it because it just so happens to do with Christmas that the editors feel it needs one?

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2012-2013] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 4

Kurogane rising up again surprised me, as the last few weeks have been... shoddy. but then I can't remember what happened 8 weeks ago so maybe I'm just being thick.

Oh god oh jeez can we stop calling things pimped? Like... Man, you have to be on the level of Blue Dragon or Maison du Penguin before you can truly call yourself pimped. These guys? They get righteous promotion.

Anyway, the TOC, um... HQ is back in 7th. That's nice. And although I've hated (HATED) Bleach of late, it's definitely been nothing if not fan-pleasing, so bully to that recovering its position. It's always good to do well on your final storyline, anything less would be depressing.

This title has been bothering me for a while, shouldn't the penguin have the French orthograph too ?

Anyway the surprise of this TOC is bleach, it has never been that high in ages. Souma is treated kindly, 23 pages for the 3d chapter doesn't happen that often, does it ?

I've always assumed it's because the penguin part of it is really out of place. Either that or none of us have ever cared enough about it to adjust the title. I mean... Really, I don't think anyone around here's given it a second thought before now.

On Soma: hasn't just about every series this year's had extra pages for their third chapters?
