    Found this article posted in the Jump thread:

    The editorial staff? talking about a couple of things, one of which is that Shokugeki no Soma is popular.

    Assassination Classroom also had a volume 1 initial printing of 300,000 copies.

    Yay for Shokugeki no Souma! Seems like Assclass, Shokugeki, Haikyuu, Nisekoi and probably the green haired girlwhose name I dont remember really can be the next generation.

    Ansatsu didn't receive any vote?

    The first volume of Assassination Classroom was released too late in the year to be eligible. So it was not possible to even vote for Ansatsu.

    It would have just made it if it was released 1 month earlier.

    I think we can get a good impression on what people think of each manga from this list, just as we could see what the editors thought of them in that New Year's poster. Among the Jump manga, all the New Power Generation series have taken the upper positions, while the more traditional hits from 2009 and earlier seem like they've seen better days. I can't believe Kurogane is hanging on so well after all this time.

    It's just a little debatable at most where we can predict AC would've been on that list. While some of us here may not think it's completely outstanding, at least in Japan, it's already proven itself to be quite something.

    So what you're saying is that any new manga whose first volume is released after October is ineligible for that year's vote?

    Are they serious? I facepalmed when I saw that tentacle rape scene a few pages in the first chapter.
    ...well, I guess if Kenichi can become a hit, so can this one?

    Yep, that is correct. Pretty sure October 3rd or 4th is the cut off date.

    Shokugeki is a erotic cooking mangá, the tentacles scene was very good for the genre. And currently Shokugeki is more interesting than HJ and Kiruko.

    Those who are not reading souma because of this tentacle scene are making a big mistake. It was an obvious joke about the past mangaka history. Anyone who has read more than this first chapter agrees that it is a nice serie. There are not that many ecchi scenes in the end and they are quite funny most of the time. And I'm someone who don't like ecchi when it has no purpose other than eyecandy

    isn't that the purpose of it? kinda feel like it, sometimes for jokes and sometimes as eyecandy. i would just say that it is his style to differentiate himself from similiar works. the combination of cooking and ecchi mangas, which looks like to be quite successful. could easily be the next to-love-ru in jump.

    But I just wonder how much it can last for with the amazing-cooking-and-orgasm-scene's formula chapter by chapter.

    @Desty:
    To Love Ru survived only being a no-plot ever advances manga with fan-service, I can only imagien Sougeki is gonna be infested with girls and go for the fan-service.

    @k-dom:
    The mangaka of Sougeki is a hentai doujin artist from what I have read, I am positive JUMP wants to highlight his best talent, which is well.. fan-service, kinda like Yabuki Kentaro, so expect fan-service, a LOT.

    Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2012-2013] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 4

    Perocollo, are you reading the serie ? Since it seems you aren't then please don't judge it because of the artist without knowing. Souma has NOT a lot of ecchi. The few it has are not done for meaningless reasons and are even funny. That's why I really enjoy it so far while I stopped reading something like pajama at chapter 3.

    It seems they are quite a lot of people like you or fanofanime who are judging it without reading it and accuse it of something it is not because of some prejudice against the author. So come back discussing about it after you have read it.

    If you read the comments on its thread, they are all (myself included) this way: 'this is much better than what I expected at first'

    I find Souma very very interesting, for it has a potential to have a solid story, and at the same time be constantly hilarious. So I'm a bit glad to read that it was already rumored to be popular in Japan. I'll keep my fingers crossed until it starts to rank in the ToC.

    Yeah I'm no fan of ecchi either but Souma's a lot more entertaining than it looks like it would be.

    Glad to hear it's (possibly) off to a good start.
