Hey, I translate the manga Spirit Circle (among others.)
This story of this manga involves a kid and several of his past lives and how they intertwine. We've only been introduced to the kid and three of his past selves so far, but the names of each of these characters has had some similarities and I'm racking my brain trying to find the link on the last one before I decide on his name for the chapter I'm working on now.
The current character is Fuuta Okeya （桶屋・風田）
Two previous incarnations have been introduced: Fortuna (フォルトゥナ) and Fone (フォーン)
Besides the similar sounds, we also know Fone's family are cobblers, while Okeya means cooper.
The new past self we see in this chapter is named ヴァン・フランティア (first name, last). Think renaissance knight, son of a wealthy family, strong sense of duty, out to prove himself and earn his own glory.
I'm leaning towards "Vann Flantyr". I've been on a bunch of genealogy sites for the last few hours trying to find anything remotely similar that the manga artist may have drawn inspiration from, and what root words they were drawn from (i.e. the etymological "meaning" behind the name), but nothing seems to fit so far.
Any ideas for alternate spellings I can search under? Does anyone recognize any meaning in this name?
Though I don't recognise it, I would TL it as "Van Flantya" myself. Sorry couldn't be more help
If frontier is フロンティア then フランティア should be Frantier. Van Frantier doesn't sound too bad to me. Although Flantier is also possible and seems more common as a name.
