Re: Japan's Weekly Anime Blu-Ray Rankings

Anime like Z/X Ignition rarely sell. It was basically just an infomercial.

Re: Japan's Weekly Anime Blu-Ray Rankings

The divide for some series in terms of their skew towards dvd/bd, bd more than dvd, is always interesting, as well as those that are only sold via BD (lovelive) or dvd only (believe m3 is being dvd only after the bd was cancelled on yesterday).

Anyway the drop for Love Live next volume (assuming no event ticket lottery in that) will be interesting, and if Mekakucity Actors has long legs due to its low pricing.

Re: Japan's Weekly Anime Blu-Ray Rankings

Mekaku City Actors is not low priced. There is only one episode per volume, rather than the more customary two. Price is directly proportional to reduction in content. The cost of buying all twelve volumes will be about the same, or more, than buying all volumes of more conventionally packaged anime. Aniplex profit margins also remain unchanged. Mekaku City Actors Volume 1 costs ¥2557 on Amazon, with one episode included. Gochiusa Volume 1 includes two episodes for ¥4,863. The actual cost of two episodes of Mekaku City Actors exceeds the cost for the same number of Gochiusa episodes. Thus, despite the lower MSRP, Mekaku City Actors still sold within a normal range for a popular anime, not in excess of reasonable expectations.

What do you mean, by doing one episode and one song per each one, people can pick and choose which ones they want to buy and avoid. I dont think fans buy every single volume of anime, so it comes out lower cost to them.

That has nothing to do with price. A price reduction can only mean the same amount of content per unit is made available at reduced cost per unit. If the price per unit is reduced in direct proportion to a reduction in content per unit, price remains unchanged. 24 minutes of anime on BD for ¥2500 is the same thing as 48 minutes on BD for ¥5000. This is basic finance. Individual buying habits can not be assumed. Some fans are going to buy all of the volumes, others will not. The number of volumes purchased by those who do not could vary at random between individuals. It can be assumed that the number of volumes purchased per individual varies at random, that total units purchased per individual can not be predicted with any accuracy, and therefore has no effect on this equation. In this case savings are unrelated to price reduction. Savings are not achieved because the same content has become available at a reduced price. Savings are achieved by a reduction in consumption. There is no equivalency.

Imagine that there are two stands selling candy bars. Assume expenses are the same. One stand sells a full bar for $1 each. The other sells half a bar for .50¢ Purchase of a whole candy bar costs the same at each stand. The second stand merely divides the same content into smaller units. Money is saved not because the price is lower. Money can only be saved if the consumer chooses to consume less at the second stand.

Re: Japan's Weekly Anime Blu-Ray Rankings

Haikyuu!! should be aproaching 30K if it charts one or two more weeks (depending on that bd performance for this week).

Mahouka koukou doing just what I expected (less than SAO) but still >10k. Wonder if interested parties will eventually do anime for both authors new light novels someday.

Re: Japan's Weekly Anime Blu-Ray Rankings

Hope Haikyuu!! BDs this week are >1500.

Otherwise I think JJBA dropped compared to its first anime, Wonder how its final volume for stardust crusaders will turn out.

Looks Haikyuu!! hit that 30k (30,181) great start for first volume. Hopefully averages over 20K its whole run.
