Luffy also usually passes out for several days after fighting his opponents, and often loses to them before finally figuring out how to win. (Crocodile, Lucci, Moria). Zoro's only had one serious fight where he got heavily damaged(against Das Bones) before his victory, while Luffy usually ends up taking a lot of damage in the process. Usually Zoro and Sanji, although they fight weaker opponents, struggle less than Luffy does against his opponent. Zoro definitely isn't that far behind Luffy. Most recently, in FI, Hyouzou was supposed to be nearly as strong as Hody(they both underwent the same transformation), but Zoro still defeated him without taking a single hit(We know this because Hyouzou's swords were coated with poison.)
Anyway, Luffy, Zoro, and Law are probably the strongest ones based on what we've seen so far. Bonnie is probably the weakest.
Seriously, how can you compare Hodi and Hyozou? Do you remember that the pills they were both consuming can enhance your physical power by 2 each. So compare how much Hodi did consume and Hyozou... It would be like 5 or more times in Hodi's favour. He ate like dozens of them... So they were actually in absolutely different leagues. Also you should remember that Zoro fought Hodi on land, while Luffy was fighting Hodi half of the time in water, where he can't perform as good as he can on land, while Hodi only gets even stronger and faster in water.
I think in all honesty.. Zoro is one of the strongest, if not, the strongest, luffy included. You can see the discipline, power, hardwork and dedication in what he does. If he's given the chance to switch places with luffy and fight the strongest opponent every arc, He could've probably done a better job. ^__^
Oda just mistakenly chose luffy to be the main character and he can't go back on that now, but he subtly tries to correct that on how he shows zorro's fights.. ^__^
Why are you comparing Luffy and Zoro to each other? They're far too different to be compared. Zoro can't take on Lucci like Luffy did, Lucci himself said why. Luffy's rubber body is the reason why Luffy survived Lucci's finger poke to the neck, otherwise he'd have had a hole. If that was Zoro, he'd have been dead already, even if he was even with Lucci. Could Zoro have survived against Crocodile the way Luffy did, as well, considering Luffy got dehydrated twice, nearly killed twice, and poisoned at the end. Could Luffy beat Mr. 1 (?) like Zoro did?
Both are far too different to be compared, even if they were even before Vivi joined them to Alabasta.
I'm not sure if it's fair to compare power levels because each rookie is different, with different set of abilities. Luffy could be stronger than Law and still lose to him because of Law's ability, or Zoro could one-shot Kidd if given a chance (forgot who the third pirate was that was with Luffy and Law after Luffy punched the Tenryuubito), but because of his ability, Zoro would lose his swords and may not have as much power as he does barehanded.
It's better to balance power level with other abilities the rookies have, whether DF-related or not. Luffy is among the top because of his confidence, power, Devil Fruit, and endurance/durability.
Law Vs. Kidd, a victory for Law again. He can manipulate anything inside his room. Everything that Kidd sends to Law will be sent back to him. Or he can teleport himself to avoid the attack and steal Kidd's heart.
From your post i can gather that you really have the wrong logic concerning the fights in OP. It is not just ability vs ability but user vs user and Law showed us many times that he can be captured or hit by fast attacks, his teleportation is not that fast (or rather his reaction time). You also seem to ignore Kidd´s abilities, namely him using Law´s sword against the latter for example.
Luffy is using long/mid range hand to hand attacks and he dont need to be that close, for the same reason teleport wont work that good, what will he.?. keep teleporting him all day long, only thing law have upper hand is his cutting power but he still need to connect that attack and keep in mind that luffy have far superior speed and reflexes even without gear 2nd...
Speed won't work inside Law's room because he can even stop bullets and cannon balls.
