(Can you please make your title like I did last week? And add a poll? Just to make it look more professional .)

I've to admit that this filler looks incredible.
I love the animation, the direction, the music and even the little touches on the design. Awesome. The story also seems intriguing as well.

The animation is a conitnuance from last week and it includes all types of nuanced action that you don't see in a filler or canon episode. It's a tad weird but i like it. Something that can corrode a bijuu's power, interesting. They're borrowing more from Rowling with "talking" scrolls but it's different enough that I don't mind it.

When did the fillers start? I haven't watched since episode 285.

    Re: Naruto Shippuuden 291

    It's a six episode arc, episodes 290-295.

This episode continued the high animation quality from last week's episode, and it looks like next week's episode will also have animation on par with the first two. It seems that, despite having different supervisors and directors for each of the episodes, they're probably working together to maintain consistency in style and quality across the entire arc. The linework, shading, and fluidity of animation is all above average, pretty much feature film quality.

This episode had virtually no action, but some solid exposition and character development. So far they've done a great job developing these original characters and making them relatable and likeable.

The episodes are a lot more film-like than usual the Naruto material -- I imagine if the episodes were strung together with a bit of editing they'd make an excelent two hour feature length film. The action scenes are extremely well correographed, and the exposition is thoughtful and emotional. The cinematography is also excellent, and features quite a few camera angles and shots that you don't usually see in the manga.

It's a shame that other filler material hasn't been of this calibur.

It's shame that canon episodes are not of this caliber.

I haven't watched the anime for a while, but seeing the responses this filler has gotten I took some time to watch the episodes. They're freaking amazing! It really makes you wonder why the average Naruto episode is so bland when they're capable of making episodes like these.

That's because this arc has not been written by the usual filler writers, but it's instead written and directed by Toshiyuki Tsuru. He's the director for most of the Naruto/Naruto Shippuuden OPs and some of the highest budget Naruto/Naruto Shippuuden episodes. He's most definitely not part of the regular staff that does most episodes.

The other obvious answer is that making super high quality episodes like these must cost a lot of money. That's why you rarely see them. This mini arc is obviously something special (was made to celebrate the series reaching 500 episodes) and not the norm.
