The number 5 - Play of numbers or does it have a meaning?

    Hey

I'll go straight to the details & theme for this discussion leaving out my own private thoughts.
    • 5 Floating cities in the Royal Dimension.
    • 5 Noble families (4 at the moment).
    • 5 Royal Guards
    • 5 War potentials maybe in relation to the Royal Guards.
    • 5'th Squad had Aizen who wanted to go to the Royal Dimension.
Is there a connection between 5 and Nobles/Royal Dimension etc.?
Is there a number connection between 13, 5 and 1? - Soul Society, Royal Guard, Spirit King?
Background theories on the Noble houses?
Are the 5 floating cities empty? What are they for?
Is there any sort of historical lore from real life behind the numbers? Maybe supernatural lore?

Basically, anything with the number 5 and it's purpose, perhaps it's just a play of numbers and nothing more, what are your thoughts on the matter? Thoughts? Theories?

interesting ... there are too many 5's in the picture...i wonder if its soul kings lucky number...its like mashima is stuck to 7...although he does points that out unlike kubo who has done it unknowingly or maybe deliberately

Not to mention the 5 points of a Quincy star and so many other Quincy things that we've seen.

This is kind of fun, so here I go:

    1. 5 Fullbringers that Ichigo met the first time they met (Ginjo, Giriko, Yukio, Jackie, Riruka)
    2. 5 shinigami that Ichigo fought in Soul Society in his effort to save Rukia from execution (Renji, Ikkaku, Kenpachi, Byakuya, Aizen). (His bout with Gin wasn't technically a fight, lol),
    3. 5, the number of sides of Ichigo's Sub. Shinigami badge
    4. The number 5 being one part of one of the puns of Ichigo's name
    5. He was beaten down by the 5th Espada while in Hueco Mundo
    6. That random thing about Yumichika not liking the number 5.

Ok, so....I'm getting a little crazy, ha. Perhaps, maybe subconsciously, Kubo has a thing for the number 5. Maybe it holds some importance in the story, though I can't see it being very likely. It is fun to point out all the 5's in the manga, though. It's enough to make you wonder.

5 is my lucky number 8)

I don't know if he is willingly doing this, seems a bit subconscious. 5 is an "average" number sort of, in the middle, not over not under, half way.
    Meh

Oh yeah, I forgot about them.
Guess the number five is special to Kubo.

Re: The number 5 - Play of numbers or does it have a meaning?

Well yes, from eastern lore, the number 5 has meaning in the directions: North, South, East, West, and Center. There are also legendary animals associated with each of these directions.

And it also has meaning in the eastern elements: Air, Water, Fire, Metal, and Wood. (As opposed to the western ones of Air, Water, Fire, Earth, and Aether.)

But what meaning does it have in Bleach? Besides the Royal Guard stuff we've already been shown, and the Quincy star, I don't know. Probably something, since Kubo usually doesn't leave things as pure coincidence. Who knows, though? Interesting to think about.

---------- Post added at 06:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:52 PM ----------

Also, the pentagram is a ringed five-pointed star, supposed to be a sign of evil - the star signifying Jesus (he's supposed to be the "morning star") turned upside-down. So Quincies, the "holy angels" would have a 5-pointed star, and the Shinigami, (the people from hell, basically) would have a pentagram symbol, just like Ichigo's badge.

That's the religious lore that Kubo's drawing from, at least partly.

Ichigo has FIVE main friends (or best friends) he can relate with most. Orihime, Renji, Chad, Uryu & Rukia

Eh i'm not sure if this counts, but I took Yumichika and Ikkaku's numbers was a hint about Aizen being the real villain in the SS arc. Particularly when Yumichika was giving his little speech about the number 3 being the more beautiful. It reminds me of how Gin (3rd division) was made to look like the perfect villain, while Aizen (5th division) was hiding in the shadows as the real threat. Just like how everyone thought that Ikkaku (3rd seat) was the strongest in his division (excluding Kenpachi of course) but it was really Yumichika (5th seat) with his crazy hax shikai.

5 things/ppl taken to the Royal Dimension: Ichi, Renji, Kuchikis, Tensa Zangetsu. TZ is sort of... it should automatically go with Ichi, but Shutara had it separately, so I count it separately.

    • 5 Floating cities in the Royal Dimension.
    • 5 Royal Guards
You can't really count both of these though. We were explicitly told that each RG is in charge of his own city, so the no. of cities is a direct consequence of the number of royal guards.

It's like Umineko all over again except with the 5 not the 6.

    I only know:
Number 5 is among others regarded symbolization of worldly and heavenly aspects.
It also stands for a mans spiritual and biological development and that some journey must be taken in a spiritual way. Some would also regarded is the number of divine power, a number of God.

Ever notice how almost all of the characters have FIVE fingers on each hand? Lol, joking.

Ichigo also fought 5 Arrancar - Yammy, Grimmjow, Dordonii, Nnoitra and Ulquiorra unless I'm missing one.
