I have to say, if I had children I would not jump in front of some monster to protect a stranger I just met in less than 2 hours. In that case my child(ren) would be more important, unless Anzu doesn't really like her son and/or is more horny than smart.
    Kishimoto was just retarded.

As for the japanese society; I heard weird stories as well from people that went and live there To me it is a country that is good for visits, but I wouldn't want to live there for a long time. I think even Oku mentioned that Katou(the nice guy)is a fantasy character and that the subway situation was based on a real story. But I still think Oku pushed it a bit with the greedy, stupid and ungrateful society. I think too it is the way how he sees the world. A more optimistic person would most likely have showed a different world view.

Sometimes I think he pushes things too far... other times people in real life prove me wrong.

I agree with the thread opener.
While i did love most of Okus's shots against modern society, it did get a bit over the top at times later in the series.

And also, yes, Oku had trouble with depicting normal female characters.
    Many Mangaka do, however, sadly.

And we all know the gantz story is a clusterfuck, Oku's ideas were cool on a very strange scale, but his execution often failed.
This gave us moment's like 'i am a lolicon', but sadly also a huge backlash.
