I would like to become a professional manga artist/writer! Help?

I'm 17 and though I'm not a huge fan of mange & anime, I love the style. I'm currently making my way through Death Note, Black Butler, and Ouran Highschool Host Club, which are pretty much the only graphic novels I've read that I truly enjoy. Since I started becoming more serious about drawing, I've found the artistic details in almost everything I see, so much so that when I read graphic novels I just have to stop and admire the art (do all people feel this way when they learn to draw?). Also, not to toot my own horn, but I'm a rather talented author, and I have a huge imagination. Lately I've started drawing these characters that have been bouncing around my brain. I've been trying to develop my style like a professional manga artist, and I feel like I'm really getting there.

Does anyone have any tips for me? I need to work on proportions and shading, and I believe my clothing folds could also use some work. I've never made a comic, let alone a manga, so I'm pretty much clueless about how to begin.

    ^what he said xD
I myself have really poor drawing skills and Im really ashamed of that lol
Just keep in mind that your drawing will be 90% of the times really different of what you have in your mind. Perfection takes time and its one of the hardest things to do ^^

Take a life drawing class. Seriously, do it. Too many manga artists get caught up in unrealistic proportions, and taking a figure drawing class can really help you learn about the proportion of the human body. I had some serious problems with proportion until I did. If you're a little squeamish about drawing someone else naked, then grab a full-length mirror and have a good long look at yourself. The human body in real life is a complicated thing!

That's right. One of the most important things to learn as an artist is to learn proper body foreshortening and proportion drawings

Gonna add to this that perspective is really important too. I took a fundamental's course to build a portfolio for what I'm doing in school now (Graphic and packaging design.) which included one class devoted entirely to the different methods of perspective. Learning a proper use of colour is important too. There's so much more to it than "I think these two colours look cool together!". The fundametals are important if you want to pursue art seriously.

Here's is a great way to test yourself out if you really want to be a mangaka:
    DRAW EVERY DAY!
If you can manage to do that for a whole year, A WHOLE YEAR WITHOUT TAKING ANY DAYS OFF, than you have a small little taste of being a mangaka.
Mangakas draws a lot, A LOT, most mangakas nearly get 3 days off a year. If can't draw every single day, than don't expect being a mangaka.
Try drawing 100 sketches for at least a month. If you can handle that, go for a year. Try drawing 1000+ sketches one year straight!
Yeah, you need skill to draw manga, but you need to be very active and very determine.
