Are women in the Naruto world weak?

We have so many characters and several of those are really strong and cool.
But when I look at the females among them I somehow feel disappointed.

    Let's scroll through:
Ino, Tenten, Hinata....they all are nothing compared to their male companions. They might have their own special techniques and strengths but you would never compare them to Lee, Neji, whoever. Even Shikamaru is cooler. He may not have so much phyiscal strength but he uses his techniques well and is much smarter.
Sakura...she was kind of useless in part 1 (no offense! ). Although her chakra ability control is top-notch she couldn't fight very well. Chuunin exam, forest: I thought she would shine against the Sound nins while Naruto and Sasuke were knocked out. But bah....only Kawamiri No Jutsu...so lame. Credits to her that she even tried.
Part 2: Finally, she has some insane strength due to Tsunade's training. I was so happy and thought she could rip some enemies apart. And now we see her childish behaviour in chapter 296. This is not how a shinobi should be.
So overall in terms of what a good ninja in a fight might determine she is more of a disappointment.
Temari...she is not weak but not the strongest either. Something in the middle. Doesn't blow me away.
Tsunade...finally someone who is even a Sannin and super strong. Regarding physical strength noone can compare. But even she isn't as cool as Oro or Jiraya. In the great Sannin fight we saw she slacked off because seeing blood. Although it is understandable considering her painful past it is somehow "uncool". Typically girlish behaviour. Kishimoto kills his female characters with such trivial shortcomings.

The male characters in comparison might have their own weaknesses and they also lose sometimes but overall it doesn't derogate their toughness.
For example, Kakashi: He terribly lost against Itachi facing the Tsukiyomi. Does anyone think now that he is weak? NO.

    Let's think about this:
Is there any girl who could be a serious opposer to Naruto? Nope.
Boys? Enough. Neji, Gaara, Sasuke, Shino... I don't deny that Naruto has beaten Neji and Gaara but both times it wasn't easy. Now lets imagine a Tenten - Naruto fight.  Haha...this is a joke, isn't it?

I haven't seen any male character failing in a fight because of trivial matters. But the females....perhaps it's the typical view of how japanese women should be: nice, girlish, someone you should protect.

I'm desparately waiting for a female character who is really tough. She might lose but she will not sink in my respect.

    What do you think?
Please convince me that Naruto's females are not weak! Gimme some facts so that I can consider a female character in Naruto really tough and strong!

i've added "( part 2 spoilers!! )" to the title, because you mentioned sakura's actions in part 2 - K

    > How about Tayuya? She really delivered, against Shikamaru and Sasuke before that.
    > Sakura > Naruto in a fight... for some reason she gets a lot of extra power when she wants to hit him... ( Naruto: "i should stop playing around in front of Sakura... she could kill me... " )
    > Temari is not average, she easily defeated Tayuya remember? ( the second strongest of the sound's five... )
    > Tsunade was the only person until recently that almost killed Jiraiya.
    > Kakashi: "Sakura may even become a greater shinobi then the fifth..."
    > Sakura was the only genin to resist the mass genjutsu during the invasion of the leaf... with the exception of shikamaru obviously...
    > Again, Temari was able to become a Jounin already, while only Neji was able to of the Leaf characters... ( note: both Temari and Neji where one year older then the leaf's rookie nine )

< Yeah, from what we've seen of them, Tenten Ino and Hinata aren't that strong... yet

your question seems to have two parts ,one who is stronger in battle and two you mentioned personality.
i could say khalud mentioned some battlefield strenghts and occassions where they seemed stronger.
and about personality, i could say anko has the most attitude in the whole series, even if we dont see her much.
"Fighting was the only thing I was good at,but at least I always fought for what I believed in",Solid Snake and Gray Fox.

Admit it, Khal, you watch the fillers anyway.

I believe that this overall weakness on girls camp can be justified by Japanese culture influence. In their way of thinking women are better when it comes to emotional stuff, but they're weak on any other cases. As Naruto is an action story inside out, we can assume that the only really strong female character will be a Bijuu container. Every other girl will be relatively weak in battle (consider also the fact that medical ninjas are non-offensive staff), no matter how much they mouth off between combat scenes. They'll never get to fight the strong guys.

On the other hand all the mentioned things are mainly related to climatic clashes. Of course those Naruto girls don't stand a chance against Naruto, Neiji and co., but in everyday missions they sure can kick some rival ninja's butt, not to mention unskilled villians. If we take a normal sparring duet, like Ino and Kiba, we surely don't know who'll win. In a fight to death Kiba will win no doubt. You see what I mean?

+ As much as I know until some time ago Japan had serious problems with gender equality issues. The attitude was close to medieval principles. Violent behaviour on behalf off husbands was a common thing. Habits die slowly and as Kishimoto is a japanese we must accept it as it is - national common behaviour pattern. Girls are supposed to be weak for them.

Thanks for that, Predator_U! You deserve Ki for that.
Somehow it seems that we have similar opinions in several things or at least you are always able to understand me well.

And for Tayuya...I simply forgot to mention her
Good thing about her is that she doesn't show the common weakness of other female characters (which Predator_U pointed out).
The fight Temari - Tayuya was surely a good "female" fight. Nothing with tears, emotional stuff and trivial fighting techniques - just two shinobi against each other.
I would like if we would see more of that stuff.

Re: Are women in the Naruto world weak? ( part 2 spoilers!! )

Sakura impressed Sasori with her medical skill for Iwanin's (Pete's) sakes!! Her strength to isn't something to trifle with and if you ask me a showdown vs Kabuto would have her as the winner (both beinf medical ninjas). In a dream battle against four tails Naruto she'd be crushed , not because she is weak, but because Naruto's power as a jinchuuriki has somewhat matured, and a jinchuuriki isn't something to trifle with either. Still, I think she'd be able to beat (what we've seen so far of) Shino, (the same for) Kiba and maybe even Neji (he is a close quarters specialist with no medical jutsu, a punch in the face would end it, though he wouldn't get hit so easily by one anyway).
Temari is a lethal jounin that we don't know much about, still, it seems she'd be able to beat Shino (a gust of wind to blow away the bugs and slice him up...).
Tsunade is considered by many... scary. Rightfully too!
InoHinaTen (bad joke) are... well, "immature story elements". Let me ask you this. Have we ever seen TenTen fight? All we see is a battlefield filled with myriads of weapons and her opponent lying beaten on the ground... Ino, much like Shikamaru works better in the infamous InoShikaChou formation. Hinata in my opinion is a female Neji in the making. That's her story, she has to become equal or greater than him through hard work to prove her ninja way. Still, we haven't seen any of those shinobis' new, post timeskip, scary powers

Closing, I'd like to apologise to the fans of any character I'm shamelessly having beaten by girls here... I believe none of what I said, female ninja's are lame, it was all an act to get Miso to relax and stop bothering the community with her whining! Hopefully she'll be reborn as a man in the next life. Oh, and those of you who haven't read Basilisk do so, it further proves how useless women shinobi are. Oh, and of course I belive all this, what do you think I am, a woman supporter?

I think Predator hit the nail on the head. Another thing we should take into consideration is that Naruto is a manga after all. Even more than in movies we are more likely to encounter cliches in mangas. At least that's my impression.
Hinata is a good example for that. The typical shy' n 'kawai (what a word  ) girl just waiting to be rescued by her crush
Temari on the other hand  seems to be modeled after cynthia rothrock

*off-topic rant*: this T%WZ%F$ Karneval in Germany is killing me. Whenever you switch on the tv a bunch of those crack-heads is making stupid jokes and trying to be funny with this "in ya' face" mentality :P. Of course they're not. I don't know how mardi gras is like, but here it's just terrible *off-topic rant over*

In the manga, we did not see TenTen fight, but in the anime, it seems the Tenten vs Temari fight was shown, and i heard she appeared in the fillers too (?)

EDIT: We did see some Tenten action, though not much, in the Team Gai vs Kisame-30%-clone fight in the rescue gaara arc quite recently... ( last year XD )

That's my point. In the clone fight all we see is the clone "dead" and some zillions of weapons all over the place (plus a huffing and puffing TenTen). The Kisame battle I don't recall that well, though now that you mention it, I do remember some explosives been used...

Yeah, her moment of glory, she popped a spikey bomb out of a scroll and missed Kisame, who got annoyed and locked the three chuu- + jounin in water bubbles...

EDIT: Hehe, good thing i put 'part 2 spoilers' in the thread's name before i posted this, i usually forget this whole 'spoiler' possibility when typing

Re: Are women in the Naruto world weak? ( part 2 spoilers!! )

about weakneass of girls in naruto world, yes unfortunately they are weak in generall..

ten ten-->i dont understand why such a character exists? a weapon specialist? someone without ninjutsu-genjutsu-taijutsu, i dont care if i see her or not..she is not interesting to me...

sakura-->she was really annoying before time jump..always in the way and weak..during sasori fight i thought "finally, she is changing" but we again saw her doing old habits again..trying to hug 4-tail?? she is strong but she must stop getting in the way

but i liked tsunade while she was talking to oro "i will countdown from 5, during that time get out of my sight, otherwise i will get rid of you!" she was really cool..

i hope to see a very strong female akatsuki member...
