Well how old is Karin though? Because she couldn't have been talking about Whirlpool because it should have by all means been destroyed before she was born, or at the very least destroyed before she was capable of taking care of herself and sensing anything.
About 15~18 I would say, and normally I would agree. But Kishi has already disregarded his own timeline several times in order to connect events, so I really wouldn't put it past him to have had the attack Karin sense have been the one on the Uzumaki clan.

At best - she is a quarter Uzumaki...She does not display any of the Uzumaki traits...I guess that is why it is easy to doubt her as being Uzumaki...
I think the whirlpool was destoyed during the war....certainly Kushina seems to think so (http://www.mangapanda.com/93-54942-4...apter-500.html) though I wouldn't rule out Madara. In terms of the clan, I think the Uzumaki are certainly out there... I don't think they were that huge in numbers any way...
