GantZ has the most fanservice I've ever seen in any manga I've read so far (and yes, I know there's probably more out there, but I haven't read them.)
While there's definitely some very nice erotic drawings, sometimes it got downright annoying. Covers of naked girls out of the blue. What the heck?
So I'm just wondering if people mind this, or not. It seems as though Oku is kind of stopping doing as many "nude covers" too.
Keep it clean, fellas, heh.
I think a lot of the pretty girl/erotic covers were meant as a sort of levity in a series that doesn't have much otherwise. I mean, no character is truly safe in the entire series, so it adds a whole lot of suspense and tension to the series in general. Having a random naked chick every once in a while on the cover just kind of makes you smile, shake your head, and think to yourself, "Oh man, Oku, what are you doing?"
Other than that, Oku knows he is good at drawing the female form, (and I'm pretty sure some of you would agree with that statement). Why not show off his skill and have random hot chicks running around constantly?
The fanservice isn't as "extreme" as in some other series I've read through, (granted I'm not caught up on Gantz however). I never really even noticed it AS fanservice all that much.
Reading Gantz at home was one of the most dangerous things I've ever done... I convinced my parents that I'm not downloading porn but the naked chicks could have easily had gotten me busted. So thank god that they are gone >.>
(though if them came back i would just start reading Gantz on my laptop... the n3k3d chix were h4wt.)
I personally like these covers.. It was nice eye-candy
Yeah, The covers were fun... and they were really interesting when I first got into the manga. But one downside was trying to read the chapters while in school... phew, had to make up some excuses back then... and fast.
I honestly don't care either way. I don't like Hentai (Oh lord, yes, I'm one of them, a "real people" person!)
When something happens in Gantz like Kurono getting laid, I'm not like *fapfapfapfap*, but more like "Oh shit, Kuruono's a fuckin pimp!". etc etc
So stuff like that has no real effect on me. The covers are just there.
It don't bother me!
THis is kind of expected of seinen.., but I did have 2nd thoughts about collecting the manga for this series because of the 'too hot' covers!
Btw, this is off topic, he's actually doing a shoujo series 'Me Teru no Kimochi' but no nude pics yet!
the fanservice in gantz...
as zindryr said, it didn't even come over as fanservice most of the time...
although i gotta say the lara croft fanservice was pure fanservice...
the covers are great
would there be color covers for gantz i would've made my own calendar out of it XD
all in all it doesn't bother me a bit -- heck, if you read futari ecchi while on the bus or train why should the gantz fanservice bother you
Me-Teru no Kimochi may have romance elements, but I don't think we can say it is shoujo. I'd say it's a seinen drama.Originally Posted by Nami
Opps...my bad...Maybe you're right, since I think this series will appeal to guys more?! I can't really tell the difference sometimes.
Come to think of it, I can't be 100% sure there won't be any nice gal pics for Me Teru No Kimochi since the actual Jap tanks are not out yet? Am I right?
The first volume of Me-Teru is indeed out in Japan. It came out on January 19th, it just hasn't shown up on the web yet.Originally Posted by Nami
I really enjoy the fanservice they have for the covers there really good.
The covers were a nice "adult" touch to Gantz, it's not like it was a bunch of skanks spread eagle, it was playboy-ish.
Enough to make me smile or say "Nice" or something.
That's exactly what it i think when is see the covers. The Reika covers are usually the best.Originally Posted by hisshouburaiken
It seems like covers are a thing of past in Gantz. They really didn't serve much purpose, and if it means an extra page of the story then I say good riddance!
