Scanlators Guide to MangaHelpers 2.3 ------------------------------------
▌▌
What's the benefit of registering my group here?
Of course there are lots of benefits! Here are just some of them:You will have your own page on MH, where you can promote your group further and get people to follow your group closely.
Your fans can get instant alerts for your releases and news when they subscribe to your group.
If you upload your scanlations on MH, you'll get a DDL link and also free read online service! Yes, that's right, you provide the product, we'll provide the service. Did I say it's free? :3
Create a new project and build up the hype by promoting them on your homepage (which will also show up on the Scanlator HQ index).
Easier way for people to apply to be in your group!
Gives the community an overview of your group history.
More features are still being planned, and it's all coming just for you!
▌▌
How do I register my group (also applies to solo scanlators)?
This applies to scanlation groups as well as solo scanlators! So if you're a solo scanlator, please register with us too.
Before you begin, please read this :Please don't register groups which you're not in.
Please don't register your groups here if you are doing anime subs, or not doing any scanlations at all. Groups that just post other group's releases on their website won't be accepted here.
Don't spam create groups! For example, don't make a new group for every series you release (i.e. no divisions, unless the members are different), such as MHScan-Naruto, MHScan-Bleach, etc.
Anyone caught trolling with this function or abusing it will be given a warning and if it persists, you will be banned. Of course, we will review each case before taking any action.
Ok, with that established, it's time to get to the point ^^ To register your group, click the link below:
http://mangahelpers.com/submit-group/
Note: After submitting your group, the admins will review the group and approve it. This is to make sure no one abuses the system and spam our database with dozens of groups a day. You will get a PM notifying you about this .
▌▌
How can members join my group? // How to join a group?
Note: Before you ask, we don't have a manual add members function yet, so individuals need to apply themselves and be approved.
Ok, let's go on. You created your group and it's approved, so now you need members! You need the current ones to register with your group and you need new people to jump on the bandwagon. How does that work?
Here is a step by step guide:
1) Go to a group's homepage and look for the "Apply for membership" link (see screenshot). You can find a group's homepage by searching the group in /browse/ (it's under "Scanlation Group HQ" on the Nav bar).
2) A form will appear (see screenshot). Simply fill it in and submit For people who are applying, your part is done here. The next part applies only to group officers.
3) Now, group officers (see HERE for more info on what a group officer is) will have to check their group admin and approve/disapprove the application. The link is under "Members > Application" in your group admin.
Note: Applicants will receive a PM informing you about the outcome of your application after it is handled by the group officers. It will take an hour to a full day for an application to be approved, largely due to the difference in timezones.
▌▌
Is there an easy link to go to my group page?
For members of a group, you get a new nifty link in your "My Actions" menu after joining a group. Just select it and click on your group homepage link.
Note:
For those who are in multiple groups, all the groups' links will be there, so if you're in 2 groups, you'll see two set of group links there, each pointing out to a specific group
▌▌
What are these functions in the Group Admin?
I'll explain the main functions of these links, since it's pretty self-explanatory anyway, and some of them are covered in other parts of this guide.
Releases ----Add This is where you add your scanlations into the system. For more info, see HERE . ----Releases This is basically your archive, a collection of your scanlations posted on MH from the newest to the oldest. Note: This page is viewable by the public; it's just repeated here for your convenience. ----Options You only have one option for this at the moment, which is to enable or disable non-group members to upload for your group. If you allow non-members to upload for you, your group name will appear in the dropdown menu at the bottom of this PAGE . See HERE for more. This option can only be controlled by group officers. The default is set to disable. News ----Add This is where you posts news for your group! The news will appear on your group homepage. Note: You can write hidden news only for your group members! Yes, only your group members will see it. See HERE for how to do that. ----Archives As the title says, it's the archive for your group news Manga ----Add This option is for you to add manga from the database into your group (i.e. pick up a project). This way, everything you do with the manga will be connected on many levels. The system will show that you're doing this manga, and have scanlations for it. When people look up the manga, they'll also see your group there which means more exposure for you! Note: You must add a manga as a project before you can post scanlations of that manga. See HERE on how to do it. ----Manage Currently, you can only delete a manga from your group here. Perhaps there'll be more in the future! Members ----Manage On this page, you can see a list of your members. In each group, there are 2 types of members, Officers and Members.Officer – These are the admins of the group. When you view this page ("Members > Manage"), Officers can kick a member out of the group by deleting them from the list. They also have the power to promote someone to become an Officer. (Normal members don't have these powers.) Officers are also responsible for approving the member applications for the group. And lastly, only group officers can see "Releases > Options" as mentioned above.
Members - The members of the group. They can do everything a group officer can except 4 things:Set the option to allow non-group members to upload the group's scanlations
Kick someone out of the group
Change a group member's status (from member to officer)
Approve new members
----Applications This is where group officers approve or disapprove the applications sent by potential new members
You can also track the comments made to your news and releases through the admin page
▌▌
Can you explain step-by-step how to release a scanlation?
This is your handy, dandy guide, with images included!
Step 1
Register your group. See HERE for how.Step 2
Add a manga into your group from the database (i.e. pick up a project). This is an important step! We use this information to link your work throughout the system. To add a manga, simply go to your group admin, Manga > Add, select from the drop down menu and submit.
What if the manga you're scanlating isn't in the database? You can help us by adding it into the database :3 Use this link to suggest a new manga to add:
http://mangahelpers.com/manga/suggest/
(Please note that a manga may be listed under a different or translated title. So, make sure the manga isn't in the system before suggesting or it won't be approved. )
Step 3
This is the final step. Just fill in the details on the page as shown:
Group Admin > Releases > Add
Release Type: Select between Chapter (for ordinary manga chapters), Volume (if releasing a whole tankoubon volume at once), Gaiden (for extra chapters), Special (for omake/bonus chapters), or Oneshot.
Chapter #: You can specifiy the chapter # with the following options!
Chapter # + one letter [Example: 10a , 200b ]
Negative Chapter # [Example: -50 , -109 ]
Chapter # with a decimal point [Example: 10.5 , 09.1 ] (only 1 decimal place for now)
Ordering: Use this if the manga has a special numbering that "disrupts" the chronology to make the chapters listed properly.
Example:
Bleach 106, Bleach 107, Bleach -15, Bleach 108
To make "Bleach -15" appears between Bleach 107 and Bleach 108, insert an ordering of Bleach 107.1 for example for Bleach -15. This will make Bleach -15 appears between Bleach 107 and Bleach 108, without changing the actual chapter number (-15).
Revision: Please use this option if you're going to update your releases with another version, instead of posting the same chapters again.
That's it! It's as simple as that. Now, your new scanlation is automatically released, announced site-wide, and before you can say abra-kadabra, all your group subscribers and manga subscribers would have received the alert PM, and they might even be on their way to get your stuff Yes, they get it instantly!
▌▌
How to get an Online Viewing of my releases while still having external download links?
To create a Read Online mirror while keeping an external download link you need to upload your file while providing a URL to your download on another site. See the image below.
Note
It will take a little time for the RO mirror to be processed. So if you don't see the RO right after posting, just wait a minute or two.
▌▌
I dislike other people releasing our scans, can I stop that?
With this system, you can now decide whether or not you want to allow other people (i.e. non-group members) to upload releases for you. This function is for group officers only!
1) In your admin panel, click Releases > Options. Then, uncheck the checkbox (see screen shot), and you're done!
2) Now, your scanlation group won't appear in the drop down menu on the public upload form (HERE ). Your group name will only appear if you enable non-members to upload your releases.
If your group has been hijacked by another member, please contact an admin immediately. You can also e-mail us directly at admin@mangahelpers.com . In your e-mail, please state the name of your group (as it appears on MH) with a link to the group's page, if possible. We will look into the situation immediately. We at MH believe strongly in respecting the wishes of translators and scanlation groups.
▌▌
How can I edit/delete a release I made (because of mistakes, duplicates, etc.) ?
If you did something wrong by mistake and want to edit your entries, just follow this simple step!
Click on the particular item (news, releases, etc.), and right under the title, you should see the Edit and Delete links.
▌▌
How can I know when a new RAW or translation is posted for me to start scanlating?
All you have to do is subscribe to the manga! You'll know instantly when a RAW for the manga is available, with a direct link sent to it through via PM.
Head over to the Browse Manga page, (HERE ), and select your Subscriptions. You can choose to receive a PM when a raw, translation and/or scanlation is available.
▌▌
Can I release internal news here? So it can only be seen by my group members?
Have some secrets, huh? To post a private news only for your group members, make sure you uncheck the Public checkbox above the Submit button. Non-members will never see it nor will they even know about it. This is very useful when you want to post some thing for your members only See the screenshot below.
TIPS:
This page is located in your group admin page. You can reach it using My AFF (My Actions > Group Admin Panel) or clicking on the "Admin" tab on your group page.
▌▌
Can I select the quality (MQ/HQ) of my releases?
Selecting the Quality only applies to raws. When you upload a scanlation by selecting a language other than Japanese, the Quality drop down disappears like the list of translators.
Note that your scanlations are no longer rated in this system. Fans can now use the preview images to judge scanlation quality, if you host your release on MH! Also note that you cannot change the quality after something is uploaded too.
▌▌
Where can I apply for scanlator usergroup status (colored forum username)
This only applies if you want a scanlator usergroup status on the forums. This will only affect the appearance of username in the forums, and by no means will affect anything on the web system.
Member Status Change Request
Please review the criterias needed in the first post of that thread, and apply there.
▌▌
Who can I contact if I have more questions?
You can contact any of our admins, techs or global moderators if you have problems/queries about MangaHelpers. You can contact them in 3 ways:Via PM (a list of them can be found HERE )
Via IRC (irc://irc.irchighway.net:6667/mangahelpers )
Via email to admin@mangahelpers.com
Or, just post in here! If it is needed, I'll add it to the guide.
