This thread's purpose is to discuss the Vagabond scanlations, to make announcements (i.e. releases, raws, translations) and to generally praise the team.

Strays - The Vagabond scanlation team:
  • Project coordinator (the person who gets smacked when things go wrong): Siedhr, your friendly neighborhood cat
  • Editors: Siedhr (that's still me), Devin Lane
  • Translator: Zindryr (from Bakafish, the nice people who bring us such gems as Hard Gay and Original! Reinforced Urayasu Family) - also known as Heavenly Entity in some circles
  • Proofreader: Siedhr (also me, as you can see I'm pretty much everywhere)

You can find all of our releases in the first post of the sticky topic: [KO-Scans]Vagabond releases, raws, earlier volumes. The second post contains Japanese raws, links to zindryr's translations and the first 21 volumes of Vagabond (scanned by Manga-Sketchbook).

Every time there's a new release, that topic will be updated and we will also announce it in this thread. So to keep yourself always informed, all you need to do is subscribe to this thread.

How to subscribe:
- Easiest way is to post in the thread. Something like: "I worship thee" would be enough. If you do that, you should be notified by mail everytime someone posts a reply to it.
- The other method is to use the "Notify" button.
- Third is to visit this subforum weekly. Entirely up to it to choose which one you'd like.

These scanlations are released under the umbrella of KO-Scans, because that's from where most members are from, especially Neo who started all this. Technically, I think it's kind of a joint with Bakafish, but I don't know much about this technical stuff, and in the end, I guess it doesn't really matter anyway.

Other frequently asked questions (or not):

1. What about the previous volumes of Vagabond (01-21)?

The previous volumes of Vagabond are scans of the English edition of the manga, produced by Viz. They were released by Manga-Sketchbook and we had nothing to do with them. You can find these volumes in the Vagabond Releases thread uploaded to sendspace by yours truly.

2. Why do you guys do these scanlations? Manga-Sketchbook is doing them, too.

MS releases the scans for Viz editions. That means they are way behind the Japanese scans. What we want is to give Vagabond fans releases that are up to date, so that they don't have to wait so long. So we scanlate the Japanese raws. It doesn't mean one group is better than the other. This is not a competition between us and MS (like it is with other manga). They do their thing (and we thank them for that) and we do ours (and we don't know how they feel about that).

3. I want faster releases.

We need staff badly: typesetters, cleaners and a QC.

Good. So do we. So praise us heavily and we'll work faster.

But we're only a few people with a lot of things to do (not to mention lives to live). So if you want speed (as well as quality), then come help. Whether you're editing, cleaning, typesetting, translating or proofreading, we'll be sure to find a place for you. Even if you don't know that much, but you have the desire (and a copy of Photoshop) to help, come aboard and we'll teach you all you need to know.

There are a couple of conditions (all equally important and they apply to anyone who wants to be part of the team): first off, you need to be serious about it (that means no dissapearing unnanounced in the woodwork - if you go away for more than 48 hours, you'll need to tell me when we're on a deadline), second, you need to have some free time available, third, we're trying to do a quality job here so you need to be able to accept critique, fourth, we have some editing guidelines you need to observe (I'll PM you about them).

5. The chapters from volume 22 look so good, but the ones from volume 24 are crappy. Why is that?

Because for volume 22 we're using tankoubon scans (raws that are scanned from the volume and have a much better quality), and for 24 we're using scans from Morning (the magazine where Vagabond is published). Once volume 24 is scanned (in October probably), we're going to do another release for 24 using those HQ raws.

6. I have other questions.

Good. Ask them and we'll answer. Either use this thread or PM me and I'll see what I can do.

For the fans:

You should be getting volume 23 quite soon, in one go, probably two weeks from now if all goes well.

No problem. And about your avatar, I believe Vash The Stampede already has. He has a $60,000,000,000 bounty on his head.

Thanks, Boffen. We'll keep on doing what we're doing for as long as possible. And better hopefully. And btw, after you're done reading, we'd really appreaciate any input you might have to offer. We seek to improve.

(We as in we, the team, not we as the majesty plural. )

Not to get off topic, but to reitterate my point, the double dollar is one of the many slight changes to existing quantities. (iles = miles, dallons = gallons, so on and so forth)

ok now ive read it, and i cant complain. i have no big issues whatsoever i think everything looks exactly as it should be.
example: Kojiros short written dialog with the old lady. i like that you choose to make it look like they wrote in english.
it keeps the reader in the moment not having to look for the meaning of those symbols i cant understand. so thumbs up for that!

when you start a sentence with: not to get off topic. there's a pretty huge chance that you are in fact going
so stay on topic!

I liked that too. That was done before I was part of the team. Just a fanboy back then.
