Members' Guide to MangaHelpers 2.3
---------------------------------------------

▌▌ How can I find a specific manga?

Easy! There are multiple ways to search for manga or even specific chapters of a manga.

Browse Manga
http://mangahelpers.com/manga/browse/
(From the menu, Manga Info / RTS > Browse Manga)

Browse manga simply and easily. Just enter the name of a manga, or a partial name, and the list filters as you type! You can also just click the pre-defined filters on the right to narrow your search further.

From here, you can click on the name of a manga to go to the detailed series information page, or click on the thread or forum link (if it exists) to discuss the series within the forum.

Search Manga
http://mangahelpers.com/manga/search/
(From the menu, Manga Info / RTS > Find Manga)

Perform an advanced search to find manga. Search by any combination of name, magazine & publisher, demographic, status, and genre tags.

Quick Browse Manga

On most of the pages in the manga section, you'll notice this handy dropdown in the right column. If you know the name of your manga, just select it in this dropdown to quickly navigate to the detailed series info page for that manga.

Search Releases
http://mangahelpers.com/search/
(Also available on the home page)

Find a specific chapter in one search! Just type the name of the manga plus a chapter number, and the results page will list all raws, translations, and scanlations for that chapter.

▌▌ What information can I find from the detailed manga page?

  • Series Information
Once you search or browse for a manga, you'll inevitably end up here -- the "details" page for the manga. From here you can :
    • View official manga information (mangaka, status, publisher, etc) and site statistics (the number of chapters & releases on MH, popularity, rating, etc).
    • View a descriptive summary of the manga and preview pages to let you judge the art before you download.
    • View all of the translators for the manga (links go to the translator's homepage on MH).
    • Rate the manga.
    • Read and write reviews for the manga.
    • Add to your reading list.
    • Subscribe to instant notification on releases
    • Add the manga to your favorites

From this page, you can also click on the tabs at the top of the screen to go to any one of these sections :
  • Chapters -- View every chapter of this manga that has at least one release posted on MH. Click on the chapter number to show all of the raws, tranlations, and scanlations (R/T/S) for that chapter.
  • Scanlations -- View all of the scanlations for this manga, organized by date posted.
  • Translations -- View all of the translations for this manga, organized by date posted.
  • Raws -- View all of the raws for this manga, organized by date posted.
  • Forum/Thread -- Click on this tab to be redirected to the forum or thread used for discussing the manga, if one exists. If it doesn't exist, feel free to make one in the forums!

▌▌ Is there an easy way to view all the latest manga chapters released in the past month?

Yes! Just go to the manga index page: http://mangahelpers.com/manga/ (From the menu, Manga Info / RTS).

This page lists all of the latest manga chapters released in the past month, sorted by post date, where post date is the date of the last release posted.

You can also filter this list by clicking on a magazine or on one of two pre-defined filters:
  • Popular -- shows only chapters with over 1000 downloads (either raws or scans)
  • New Series -- shows only series for which the first chapter was released in the past month

▌▌ How can I browse through all the releases on MH?

Just go to the downloads page: http://mangahelpers.com/downloads/ (From the menu, Download Manga)

This page lists all of the uploads posted to MH, sortable by posted date, manga title, or number of downloads. You can also filter the releases by language.

Click on [DDL] to go to the download page for that chapter, [RO] to read the chapter online, or [RTS] to go to the R/T/S page, which lists all raws, translations, and scanlations for the chapter.

▌▌ Is there an easy way to access all of my favorite manga, translators, or scanlators?

Yes! Members can add their favorites to their "My Favorites" menu, and can customize the shoutbox to be instantly notified of releases of their favorite manga.

Adding to Favorites
  • Navigate to the detailed manga page by browsing for a manga, for example.
  • Click the button "Add to favorites."
  • The manga is then added to your "My Favorites" menu.
  • You can also add scanlators or translators to your favorites menu from their homepages.
  • The number next to the manga, translator, or scanlator indicates the number of releases posted since you last accessed the page. Click on the item to reset the number and to be redirected to the page.
Customizing the Shoutbox
  • First, enable your shoutbox on the shoutbox settings page, also accessible from the menu My Actions > Shoutbox Settings.
  • Choosing any option other than "Hidden" will enable the shoutbox.
  • If you've already added manga to your favorites menu, you're good to go. The shoutbox will automatically be populated with new releases of your favorites, with the following stipulations:
    • Only latest chapters are shouted. (eg, if the latest Naruto chapter is 426 and someone re-releases chapter 101 afterward, 101 will not be shouted)
    • Only English scanlations are shouted.
    • 5-day limit to shouts. All releases older than 5 days will automatically be removed from the shoutbox.
    • Max of 12 series at a time. If you have more than 12 favorites, they will still be added to the shoutbox as soon as the older releases expire.
    • If there are multiple English scanlations for a series, the number will be listed in parentheses after the manga title. In this case, clicking the scanlation will redirect you to the R/T/S page for the chapter, instead of the downloads page. You can pick which scanlation you want from there.

▌▌ How can I be notified instantly when a release is out?

Create Subscriptions
It's quite easy to subscribe to any of your favorite releases, whether they be translator-related, scanlator-related, or manga-related. In addition, you have control over how you're notified - by PM or RSS, or you can choose to view your subscriptions solely in MH if you wish.
  • Translators - From the translators' homepage, choose to subscribe to only translations or everything (news, transcriptions, issues, tips) from the right-hand column, "Subscriptions"
  • Scanlators - From the scanlators' homepage, choose to subscribe to news, group scanlations, raws posted by the group, or everything.

  • Manga - From the manga details page, under "Options and Subscriptions" in the right-hand column, choose:
    • Whether or not to receive PMs (if not, you can either set up a custom RSS or choose to view subscriptions solely in MH)
    • The type of subscription - Raws, Translations, or Scanlations
    • Optional filters that apply to Translations and Scanlations -- group and language. You can choose either, none, or both of these categories to filter by.

View Subscriptions
After you set up a subscription, you can view the entire list of releases that match your subscription by going to the menu My Actions > Subscriptions. From here you can set up a custom RSS feed by clicking on the orange RSS icon in the top right corner of the page.

Manage Subscriptions
From your subscriptions page, click the link "manage subscriptions" to come to this page, which lists all of your translator, scanlator, and manga subscriptions. From here, you can see at a glance what you're subscribed to, can delete subscriptions, and can edit subscriptions by clicking on the manga, translator, or scanlator name.

▌▌ How can I upload RAWs or scanlations on behalf of other scanlation groups?

Anyone can upload raws, but to upload a scanlation, the scanlator group first has to give permission for members to upload for them. Also, the scanlator group must already be registered on MH.

  • To upload a file, go to http://mangahelpers.com/downloads/add-file/
Download Manga > Upload RAW or
    Download Manga > Upload Scanlation
  • Select the name of the manga. If the manga does not exist, you can click the "Add it" link to add it to the database, but please browse or search for the manga first to make sure that it doesn't exist under a slightly different name.
  • Choose the language. If you select "Japanese" you'll be prompted to input a resolution quality for the raw. If you select a different language, you'll be asked to choose a MH-registered translator and scanlation group.
  • Upload a file to provide an MH-DDL link and read-online (RO) version. Or input an optional external URL to the file.
  • Fill in the rest of the fields as indicated.
  • Click "Submit" and... voilà! The chapter appears immediately on the downloads pages. The read-online version may take a few minutes to process, however.

▌▌ Who can I contact if I have more questions?

You can contact any of our admins, techs or global moderators if you have problems/queries about MangaHelpers. You can contact them in 3 ways:
  1. Via PM (a list of them can be found HERE)
  2. Via IRC (irc://irc.irchighway.net:6667/mangahelpers)

Or, just post in here! If it is needed, I'll add it to the guide.
