Ikigami

Ikigami is a great "what if" manga. What if you lived in a society where every 1 in 1000 kids are injected with a nano capsule with a timer that rests in your heart until it detonates? This is all done to put fear in the citizens minds so the country will be more productive and result in less crimes. The doomed person will die at an age of 18-24 with a only a 24 hour notice (an ikigami) telling the time of your exact death. Do you mount revenge, live your dream, spend time with family, or accomplish a goal?

Fugimoto is the narrator of this story who works for the government and delivers the ikigamis to the unlucky few. He learns more about his job and sometimes questions himself if what is happening right. You will see different perspectives of emotions and actions a person does with their last hours. The themes are episodes revolving around the person with 3 or so chapters to tell their story. While the first episode makes you almost want to turn away in horror; the second one will touch your heart.
