Ok, there! Finally done with volume 1. Whew. That took forever. I finished chapter 1 of this when... late July? It took me about 3 months to get through the first volume. Ok, well, still, it's a big thing for me because this projects been on the backburner as something I've wanted to do for sooooo long. I'm gonna try to scan volume 2 sometime soon. Though I'm gonna take a bit of a break from this series before I start it. Hopefully our scanlation of volume 1 won't take too long.

I like sports, so I've always wanted to draw a sports manga. So at first I thought I'd like to draw one about soccer, but there've been so many 'soccer manga' in the past that I felt like the subject matter wouldn't feel fresh at all. So I reluctantly gave up on that. I came to the conclusion that major sports like baseball or soccer already had tons of works in the manga world. Then I started looking into sports that weren't as major as football or soccer that I thought I could make into an interesting manga, but hm~~~... most sports were already being done as manga. When it came to sports that didn't have a manga they were really too minor. Like minor enough that I hadn't heard of them before, so I gave up. I just didn't know how I would make a kendo or volleyball manga last until the end. But I really wanted to do a sports manga... The thing was I hadn't done kendo since I was in elementary school. And I'd never done volleyball as a school sport at all. So because there would be so much stuff I really didn't know~~~ I gave up.
So while I was racking my brain about what sorta sports manga to do, I saw on TV that there are lots of sports on TV that are still totally unknown. And among them were sports with really simple rules. And each of those sports had their own culture established around them in their respective countries... It was pretty shocking (laugh).

When you were a kid, you'd make up your own rules when playing with your friends a lot, right? Like when you're playing tag, you've got the "Mountain Demon" variation, stuff like that... (heard of it?). Where I was from, we also had a version called "Circle Demon". Anyone who was standing on top of a manhole couldn't be touched by the person that was it... that sorta thing (laugh). Kids are geniuses at coming up with games with limited space and tools, aren't they? Okay, getting back on topic, there really were countries where they had sports like that. And honestly, there were a lot of 'Isn't that a little too simple~?' sorta ones... Those wouldn't be becoming olympic events... The conditions for becoming olympic events were that it had to be a sport played in 75 or more countries on 4 continents. Thinking about it that way, sumor or kendo, famous sports in Japan, wouldn't be olympic events, then. I guess because other countries don't have a high player population... Thinking about it that way, I started thinking about what would happen if a population of players of a sport totally disappeared... I guess the sport itself would disappear... So there must be lots of sports that existed around the world that've disappeared... For someone that loves sports as much as I do, that's something I'd rather not thing about...
So, regarding manga, there are lots of manga that do the major sports. On the other hand, if a sport is too minor, then I wouldn't know enough about it so I couldn't draw it. ...But then there are lots of sports that are unknown to the world. It was at this point that I decided to make up an entirely new sport. It might be impossible, but I thought I'd give it a good hard think first...
