After safely arriving at Buckingham Palace, what has become of Esther...?!

Red bubble:
Serialization resumes!!

02

I honestly!
Truly!

Abel apologizes profusely.

Sincerely!!

From the bottom of my heart!

Offer my deepest apologies!!

I would've looked high and low for you, I swear!
But I was dealing with some problems of my own!

The rope cut off on me and then I fell into the river and when I finally managed to pull myself out I was wrongfully accused of being an underwear thief and then I was chased off by a dog blah blah blah

Oh, really now?
I'm sure you had it rough.

But anyway...

03
― 。。。あたし
It seems that...
I'm not exactly welcomed here.

I get the feeling that...
even though these people don't want me here,
I'm like a bug they can't get rid of.

And it's like...

they're wary around me.

Exactly.
You hit it right on, Esther.

As I'm sure you're aware of, Albion's an extremely isolationist country.
They especially loathe the powerful influence the Vatican holds.

04
Certainly,
they're not going to be inviting you nor the Pope in for tea and crumpets anytime soon.

Under normal circumstances, that is.

So you're saying it's not right now?

Precisely.
Right now,

a tremendous decision rests within Albion's hands.
Oh. Why, thank you.

Perhaps for the following decades...no,
for the following centuries, this decision will determine the fate of this country.
だから
That's why...

they're acting with caution around you.

Depending on the outcome of their decision,

there may come a time when they'll have to abandon their isolationist position and embrace the Vatican.
Naturally, if that happens,

giving the Lady Saint the cold shoulder is out of the question. But, in the event that they arrive at a different decision,
getting friendly with the Vatican would only invite danger.

The matter in question...

05
is the declining health of Her Majesty the Queen.

Bridget II.
After ascending the throne at the mere age of fifteen, she reigned over the country for half a century. They called her "Scylla of the North Sea".
The woman hailed as the "Mother of Albion" who outwitted superpowers such as the Vatican and Hispania,

who established this country as the supreme ruler of the northern territories...

became bedridden by illness just last week.

06
The problem at hand is...
who will become her successor.

So...
。。いえ
When Her Majesty fell ill, the successor hadn't been selected yet... No.
A successor was decided, but...

Right.
The queen's now deceased son,
Prince Gilbert, was chosen.

We attended the same university, but he was in a league of his own.
He was a very intelligent man with a charming personality.

If he was alive today, he would've made a fine ruler.
But not everything in life goes our way.

Gee! Even if something like that happened...
wouldn't there still be others...

who are qualified within the royal family?
I mean, what about his children?

07
At the time of his death, the Crown Prince had only been married to Princess Victoria of Ostmark for half a year.
They didn't bear any children yet.

Princess Victoria did deliver a boy after the Prince's death,
but tragically it was a stillbirth.

The Crown Prince was an only child,
so the royal family's lineage almost ended along with his death.

To make matters worse,
the Crown Princess herself died shortly after.

During that dreadful...
White Rebellion.

If I recall,
that was when some knight murdered the Crown Princess and his own wife, right?

08
Edward White.
Up until that point, he was said to be the most distinguished knight in Albion.

He and his wife were very close with the Crown Prince and Princess.

。。でも
I see...

But why would such an accomplished man do something so terrible?

I don't know.
There are many theories.

But even I don't know the truth.

I was out of the country for my own reasons when it occurred.

Outside txt:

Professor,
you just said that the royal family's lineage almost ended when the Prince died.

By "almost", do you mean there are still royal candidates?

Correct.
I was referring to the queen's niece and nephew.

09
The problem lies with the both of them.

The nephew in question is presently the king of another country.

King Ludwig II of Germanicus.

Eh?!
The one and only "tyrant king" of Germanicus?!
The very one who kept Albion from merging with Germanicus after he was crowned king?
His people aren't very fond of alliances, are they.

small txt: あ~~。。。
Hoo boy.

Well!
There's still one more person!
You did say there was a niece, right?

Wouldn't she be the obvious choice then?

Abel, my friend.

It's not as simple as that.
I suppose you haven't heard all the details.

Well.

Listen here.
I have much to tell you.

10
She's the Vice Admiral of the Albion Navy.
Vice Chairman of the National Treasury.

Executive Secretary of the Liberal Party.

A lifelong member of the elite.

The head of the largest conglomerate in Erin called the Jocelyn Group which controls...
a portion of the parliament and army within Albion.
*Erin is the Irish English word for Ireland.

And she's Queen Bridget's niece.

She's a big shot even among Albion's aristocrats.

11

The Duchess of Erin,
Jane Judith Jocelyn.

She's probably most well known by her nickname, "Calamity Jane".

P-Professor!
Some belladonna just walked in!
*Belladonna literally means "beautiful lady" in Italian, but actually refers to a poisonous plant. I used this term to get the "beautiful but dangerous" meaning across because it seems like that's what Abel thinks.
She gives me the creeps!

― だから
Like I said,
she's a real big shot.

12
As a socialite, she's a successful entrepreneur.
As a soldier, she carries a remarkable service record in the eradication of piracy and the border disputes with Hispania.

If we were to just look at her career, then she would've been a shoo-in for inheriting the throne.
Regrettably, a considerable number of aristocrats oppose handing over the throne to someone who's relatively independent from the country.

Not to mention, her dislike of the Church hasn't earned her much favor with Rome.
What's more, she's been caught up in a myriad of scandals.

― ス
Scandals?
What kind of scandals?

Oh, there are plenty.
From adultery to homosexuality,

― 。。。。
........

。。それと
promiscuity to drug use.

She's even been married seven times.
And each time, her husband died.

Rumor has it they were all poisoned by her.

Actually, there is one more candidate.
And that's the Viscountess Carlisle.
I hear she's a brilliant military official and a highly regarded woman.
。。。ただ
But as luck would have it,

she's an illegitimate child.
She's the child Gil--I mean, the Crown Prince had with his lover before he married.

An illegitimate child can't receive a share of the family assets,
let alone the right to the throne.

Oh, my. It's already gotten so late.

Abel, Sister Esther is greeting the Pope tomorrow.
It's time we send her off to bed and return to our work, wouldn't you agree?
We'll be up all night if this continues.

― 。。。?
...?
You have work tonight?

Yes.
The priest who made off with the documents was apprehended,
but we've discovered that some of the retrieved documents are missing.

According to our list,
the missing portion is from November, year 640 of the Holy Calendar.

14
。。ああ
As for its content... Let's see here...
It was about a particular incident.

The one you just mentioned,

the White Rebellion.
They're records of the Crown Princess's murder case.

― 。。。あの
Dr. Wordsworth.
If I may have a word with you...

Hm?

I see.
Hah hah hah.

Your father is Edward White, you say?
That's obviously nothing more than hogwash.

15
Certainly, Sir White fled the country immediately following the incident.
However, he died in an accident in Vienna shortly thereafter.

He took his daughter with him when he left.
Consequently, daughter and father both died together.
It's likely that's when reporters like that man started fabricating stories.

That's just how the tabloids usually make their headlines.

Thank goodness!

I'm so relieved to hear that.

I'm glad his lies were brought to light.
To think that he even went so far as to make this in order to deceive me!

If I ever run into him again, I'll be sure to give him a sound beating!

Yes, you have every right to do so.
If word got out that the "Lady Saint", in the midst of her growing popularity, was the daughter of a traitor, then the Vatican's authority would be undermined.

Even if we were to protest against the newspaper company, it wouldn't remedy the situation. Good grief...
Just where in the world did that man come across such a wild story?

16
Maybe he has a few screws loose in his head...

Something wrong, Professor?

Eh?

Now, now. There's no need to panic, Esther.

It appears that I've rambled on too much.
My apologies.

Going back to what I said earlier,
Edward White never set foot in Istvan.

Therefore, it's inconceivable that you're his daughter.
That much, I assure you.

18
What I don't understand is...
why that reporter was holding onto something like this.

It seems best to start by answering that question first.

Jane, if you would please introduce yourself.

Pleased to make your acquaintance, Lady Saint.
I must say, it's a privilege to be able to meet you in person.

When I heard of the Lady Saint,
I imagined a fragile young girl who was just skin and bones.

I can tell by that person's voice.

Are you serious?

But it kind of seemed like the Captain knew that person...

The terrorist at the airport was way more rude to her.
Don't you find that odd?

Yes, that's exactly why I want to find out.

Forget it.

I'll go myself.

No can do.

You have a job to do tomorrow.
You're going to argue your case against those guys, remember?

Leave everything here to me. The only thing you should think about is resting up for tomorrow.
That is your job.

But...

It'll be fine! Trust me.

I'll come back as soon as I find out where he's going.
You just hurry on to bed.
