Nurarihyon Akumaru 2008 Summer Omake

+ posted by Elkin as translation on Sep 26, 2008 10:21 | Go to Nurarihyon no Mago

Kudos to anon1525 for transcribing this omake... made life so much easier. Find the transcript here: http://mangahelpers.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1027265.

Disclaimer: I'm clueless about soccer, so this chapter was a real pain to translate. Corrections are greatly appreciated, and soccer fans, don't take offense if I mis-used some of the terminology.

Moving on...

--------

Red: serious help needed

Blue: areas of uncertainty
Purple: lines missing from the transcript
T/N: translator's notes

--------

Page 1

Line 1: Grandson of Nurarihyon Omake

Line 2: Story of the Retaliation of the Kiyo Cross Supernatural Investigation Squad

Line 3: Shiibashi Hiroshi

Text (side of panel 1): ☆ Going all-out this time!! (It's the author's choice!!)

Box 1: A few days after the disasterous training camp during Golden Week-------

Sign (right): Inter-class face-offs
Sign (middle): 2008 Ball-games Tournament
Sign (left): Before lunch: Boy's soccer After lunch: Girl's softball
Lit: Class Face-offs

Box 2: At Ukiyoe Middle School... the customary ball-games tournament was being held---

Bubble 1: Hey... Those three people are finally gonna go heads-on against each other
おい…とうとうあ・の・3・人・が決勝でぶつかるかしいぜ

T/N: remember to italicise

Bubble 2: You serious?

Bubble 3: 1st years' team 2 against... 1st years' team 3
T/N: Lit 'Year 1, Team 2' etc., but this flows better in dialogue

Bubble 4:
このカードを見のがすわけにはいかないぜ!!
T/N: What is カード? From the context I'm guessing this line is something like 'You mustn't miss this match!!'

Bubble 5: O---h boy, I getting real excited!!

SFX 4: Whoo-- Whoo---
SFX 4 (small): Kya--
T/N: lit 'wa--', but that's more of a crying sound in English

Bubble 6: Stop!!

Bubble 7: Get him!!
つぶぜ!!

Bubble 8: Take down... Kyotsugu----!!
清継を……つぶせーーーーー!!
T/N: It's つぶせ in both lines, but for the sanity of typesetters I'm using different verbs. 'Get... Kyotsugu' sounds pretty odd as well.

Page 2

Box 1: Kyotsugu Year 1, Team 3
Position: Offensive mid-fielder
T/N: OK there seems to be some difference between 'offensive' and 'attacking' mid-fielders. I'm guessing from the Wiki entry that 'offensive' = soccer and 'attacking' = American football. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Bubble 1: Damn it!!

Bubble 2:
Cut him off from passing the ball!!

Lit: 'Cut off all his pass-course'

Bubble 3: It's hopeless...

Bubble 4: Even if you flounder with all your might.
Sub-bubble: Just who do you think I am?!

SFX: whoosh whoosh

Bubble 5: Uwaaa~~~~~~~ That's Kyotsugu-kun for you!! He overtook them so easily~~~~~!!

Bubble 6: He's super skilled
Lit: overflowing with ability

Bubble 7: As... As expected of the boy who was blessed by god in everything!!
T/N: lit 'man', but middle-schoolers do NOT use that to describe each other. Also, different wording for さすが so it reads better

Bubble 8: Bit of a pity about his hobbies, really

Text (right of panel 6): Kyotsugu
Dribble control: 92
Dribble speed: 86
Pass accuracy: 96
Pass speed: 91
Shooting strength: 86
Shooting technique: 90

Bubble 9: Go!! Ultimate Early Cross!!

Bubble 10: Woaah!! The trajectory is beyond amazing!!

Bubble 11: Looks like the outcome's already decided!!

Bubble 12: !!

Page 3

Bubble 1: Nura Rikuoooo makes a pass cut~~~~~~!!

Bubble 2: Kya---- Rikuo-sama----!!

SFX 2: clap clap

SFX 2: chomp chomp
T/N: eating sounds

Bubble 3: Normally he's very gentle!

Bubble 4: The super nice guy who volunteers to take out the trash for you!!
T/N: Thanks to owlish for the suggestion!

Bubble 5: But now his true colours show... He's a left side-back with a god-like speed of covering 50m in 5 seconds!!

Bubble 6: Woaaah------ Heeeeeyy---------!!

Bubble 7: He's keeping to the very edge of the line~~~
ライン際のなんちゃら~~~

Bubble 8: Rikuo-sama---!!

Bubble 9: The most skilled guy is put in the position of a side-back
Missing: もっとも才能のある奴がやるべきポジション サイドバック…

Text (side of panel 5): Rikuo (Year 1, Team 2)
Speed: 98
Acceleration: 96
Dribbling speed: 97
Dribbling accuracy: 88
Pass speed: 90
Pass accuracy: 86
Curve: 90

Bubble 10: Definitely a modern-day soccer genius sent from heaven!!
T/N: 銀代 should be 現代. 申し子 means 'heaven-sent child in response to Shinto/Buddhist prayers', but this sounds better =9

Bubble 11: Rikuo-sama---!!

Line (below stats): Isn't he?
T/N: probably a question to the reader, saying, "Hey, he's a genius. Take a look at these stats. Don't you agree?"

Bubble 12: But as I thought, that club's weird!!
T/N: The Youkai Investigation Club

Bubble 13: Rikuo-sama--!!

Bubble 14: He's shaken them off!!

Bubble 15: Rikuo-sama--!!

Bubble 16: Shu---uddup with all that 'Rikuo-sama Rikuo-sama'!!
T/N: Yuki-onna XD

Page 4
Bubble 1: It's fast! A high-speed cross!!

SFX 1: whirrrrr

Bubble 2: The keeper isn't coming out... But-

Bubble 3: Will he be able to save it...?! That cross?!

Bubble 4: A middle-schooler is--!!

Text (panel 1 side): Shima-kun, the unlikely character

Bubble 5: !!

Bubble 6: Wha... What----!!

Bubble 7: Could it be---?!

Text (panel 2 side): makes his stand!!
島君、まさかのキャラ立ち!!

Bubble 8: He----'s he---re!! The under-14 Japan representative, Shima-----!!

SFX 3: Thu----mp

Bubble 9: The no. 1 subdued character decides victory----!!
Missing: 一番の地味キャラが決めちゃったーーー!!

Text (panel 3): Shima (Year 1, Team 2)
Shooting accuracy: 98
Shooting strength: 89
Technique: 96
Response: 93
Agility: 90

Bubble 10: Really?

Box 1: ※ Shima-kun participates in various clubs
T/N: Thanks to Slashout and Xophien for helping out with this

Bubble 11: This year's first years are really amazing, aren't they?

Bubble 12: But... but...

Bubble 13: Why're you chatting about youkai----???

SFX 5: despair

Panel 5 text: We're so unskilled--

Bubble 14: Don't you find the Ganbari Monk interesting?

Bubble 15: It's great, isn't it? Birds coming out of his mouth

Bubble 16: Yeah--

T/N: all the handkerchiefs have their names on it. Rikuo has 'nu', Kyotsugu has 'kyo' and Shima has 'Shima'.

Box 2: Girl's softball after lunch

Box 3: ---was cancelled due to rain

Box 4: Instead, they did hand-gliding in the gym. The resumption of the tournament is a story for another time
かわりに体育館で手押しずもう大会がもよおされたがすれはまた別の話
Lit: The resumption of the tournament is another story
T/N: Need some serious help here too... Hand-gliding? Just what are those two doing in that panel?!

SFX 7: Ewww
SFX 7: Echi--
エチーー

Translator's notes:

Ganbari Monk (Ganbari Nyuutou)
A youkai that lives in toilets. It hides behind toilet windows, so it can scare people with its cuckoo-like cry when a person goes to the toilet in the middle of the night. Said to poise itself like it were spitting birds from its mouth.

In one illustration, it has the appearance of a hairy high-monk, with a long tongue that sticks out as it peers into the toilet.

The flag says you live in the Uk but for some reason the notes say Soccer... perplexing xD

That aside thankies very much for this!

Ahh it's because the manga uses the word 'soccer', so I figured I should go with the flow ;)

And you're welcome!

Hi. Thank you for the translation! :D
I have a suggestion and a clarification for a couple of lines- I hope you don't mind. :)

Page3:
Bubble 4: The super-nice guy who leaves the trash behind and advances on his own!!
>>> The super nice guy who volunteers to take out the trash for you!!
(As in, taking out the trash is a chore that students are assigned to do, and everybody takes turns doing it, but Rikuo will do it for you even if you don't ask him to do it in your stead.)

Page4:
Box 1:
T/N: ※ Shima-kun is 兼部??

I believe that means that shima-kun is in two clubs- the Soccer club (presumably, since he's on the under-14 Japanese national soccer team) and the Kiyo Cross Squad. XD

Please take it with a grain of salt, but I think.. that should be about right. :) I just wanted to offer my two cents before the scanlation is made.
Thank you again for the translation!!

Ahh I was wondering. Thanks a lot! When I saw trash I thought of him picking it up, but then somehow I came up with this. Now that you've pointed it out it's obvious >.<

And yes, someone else kindly pointed out that he was in various clubs, so that's been sorted out. The scanlation's already out though, I'm afraid :(

Sorry bout missing a whole lines. :( :headscratch How the heck did I do that? :headscratch Probably when mind ran off to wonderland maybe. I dunno.
I see I didn't make too many typos which made kanji be something else instead. I thought there might be more even after a double check. LOL...
Anyhow, glad to see transcript came to some use, and thank you for translating the omake. :love
