I am the "Hand's eye"
I am a performer with the gift of clairvoyance and foresight who travels between the sake houses of my noble patrons.

親なし家なしの浮草家業。
旅も随分しましたさ。
It's the job of a floating reed who has no parents nor family.
I've made many journeys.

何そんな洒落たもンじゃねえ。
その地に居られなくなったから他へ逃げなきゃ仕様がねえ。
It's nothing glamorous.
When I could no longer stay in one place all I could do was flee elsewhere.

ただ　その繰り返しを続けたら
いつの間にかの旅鳥
However, as I continued this cycle,
before I knew it I had become a migrating bird.

ある時浜へでたと思いねえ
One time, I was at the beach...

勇魚（鯨）だ
Ah-
It's a whale.

勇魚てえのは不細工な野郎でね。
間違って浜に上がっちまうともう　どうにもならねえ。
Now you see, Whales are rather ugly fellows.
It had made a mistake, coming up on the beach. There was no way to help it.

てめえの重さで息が出来なくなって死んじゃうのさ
Because of its weight, it couldn't breathe anymore. It was going to die.

難儀な奴だねおまえも
You're suffering, aren't you.

あたしひとりじゃ沖へも戻してやれない。
漁師を呼んでもここでさばかれて食われちまうばかりだ。
Well, I can't return you to the open sea all by myself.
And if I call the fishermen here, they'll just decide to eat you.

なんでえ泣いてるのかい
でかい図体して情けねえ。
Why are you crying?
With such a huge frame, it's just pitiful.

いいよ　寂しけりゃあたしが居てやる
It's okay. If you're lonely, I'll be here.

I'll be right here, like this.

ほら、空は青いよ
まるで頭の上に海があるみたいだねえ
Look, the sky is so blue.
It looks like there's an ocean above your head.

あたしは　勇魚が息をしなくなるまで色々話してやってから。
人がくる前にそこを離れたよ。
I stayed with the whale until it could no longer breathe, telling it all kinds of stories.
Before any other people came, we parted.

You can't lay a hand on a storyteller.

酒の上の戯れごとはいつものことさ。

A little wantonness after sake happens all the time.

酔っぱらいのひとりぐらい
笑ってあしらえるってのに。
It's just one drunkard.
I can just smile and deal with him.
