Ushio: Let’s go swimming!


潮：とら。。。どこいってんだ？
Ushio: Where did Tora get off to?

とら：あやかし？　どういうことよ。
Tora: Ayakashi? What’s that?


海座頭：わたしはこのあたりの海に住まい、
Umizatou: This sea is my home,

海座頭：同時にもろもろの海の妖たちのたばね役として長い間この海を
　　　　とりしきっとりました。。。
Umizatou: At the same time, I try to control the various sea youkai
and for a long time, I have managed this task alone…


海座頭：もちろん人間どもを恐怖させ畏縮させることもふくめて。。。
Umizatou: Of course, that included terrorizing humans, making them shrink with fear…

海座頭：人間らが前よりも勢力を増したとはいえなんとかやっていたのですじゃ。
Umizatou: The humans have grown more powerful than ever before.
Nonetheless, something must be done about this.

海座頭：はい。。。あやかしがくるまでは。。。
Umizatou: Yes… Until the Ayakashi comes…

海座頭：あやかしー海で死んだ人間の魂が集まったとてつもなく大きい妖。。。
Umizatou: The Ayakashi has collected the souls of all those humans
having perished at sea and grown to unbelievable proportions…


海座頭：妖怪といえどもヤツと話した妖はおりませぬ
Umizatou: Even though it is a youkai, it is not one that I have ever heard tell of.

海座頭：あやつはただ妖怪も人も食らうだけじゃ。。。
Umizatou: It eats youkai and humans alike…

とら：。。。その退治をなんでわしにたのむ。。。？
Tora: …Why have you come to me to exterminate it…?

海座頭：時は移っていきまする。。。時代とともにあった妖怪は、一つの時代が去る時に
　おのおの亡んでゆく。。。今また新しい妖が人間界にすんでおる。
Times are changing…As one era passes away,
so to do the youkai of that era…
Now, new youkai live in the human world.


海座頭：わたしたら古い妖怪がいる場所はもうなくなりかけておるのおかもしれませぬ。。。
Umizatou: The places where we old youkai live are perhaps already starting
to disappear…

海座頭：長飛丸様、五００年ぶりにあなた様をみた時。。。じゃが。。。
Umizatou: Nagatobimaru-sama, it has been 500 years since I last saw your eminence…
And yet…

海座頭：新しい妖たちに負けぬ「力」のきらめきをみましたのじゃ。。。
Umizatou: I have seen the brilliance of your power, unmatched by any new youkai…


海座頭：　う。。。
Umizatou: Uuh…

とら：どうした？
Tora: What’s wrong?


海座頭：あやかしは強い。。。わたしもこの有様。。。
　どうかなにとぞあやつを倒してくださいませ。。。
Umizatou: The Ayakashi is strong… And I am just another old youkai…
Somehow, please, defeat this creature…


とら：ふーん。あやかしってヤツあ強いのか。。。
Tora: Hmm. So this Ayakashi thing is strong, huh…


とら：どれだけ強えか、やってみてーな！
Tora: Let’s see just how strong it is!


おばあさん：ごはんだよーっ！
Grandma: Lunchtime!

皆：ひゃっほう！！
Everyone: Hyahoo!


皆：いっただきまあす！
Everyone: Itadakimasu!*


男：うわわわーっ！！
Boy: Uwawawa!!

*”Itadakimasu” is an untranslatable phrase said before every meal. It’s literal meaning is “I receive this” in a very humble form, but it really makes no sense if translated into English.

Boy: Somebody threw our luggage into the water!


横尾：あーあ、また、あのガキだぜー。
Yokoo: Aah, it’s that kid again.

厚池：でもなー、母さんいなくてさびしーんだろ。
Atsuike: Well, he’s probably lonely without his mother.

女：そうねー。かまってもらいたいのねーしかたないわよ。
Girl: Yeah, he just wants some attention. There's nothing to be done.


潮：ほーらあそこにいるぞ！
Ushio: Look, there he is!


横尾と麻子：あっ、おい　うしおっ！
Yokoo and Asako: Ah, wait, Ushio!


潮：バカヤロウ！
Ushio: Idiot!

麻子：ちょちょっと、うしお！やめなよ　子供でしょうっ！
Asako: Wa-wait, Ushio! Stop it, he’s just a kid!


横尾：あーあ　泣かせたー。
Yokoo: Ah, you made him cry.


タツヤ：あーん！
Tatsuya: Waaaa!


潮：はなせよ！
Ushio: Let go of me!


麻子：あっ。
Asako: Oh-

潮：オレ。。。ああいうのみてるとちょっとイライラしてきてよ！
Ushio: I…I get so irritated when I see stuff like that!


麻子：うしお。。。
Asako: Ushio…


とら：ここがあやかしの結界かっ！
Tora: THIS is the Ayakashi’s barrier!!

海座頭：はい、おだやかな海のなかにつくられた荒海の異界。。。
Umizatou: Yes, a barrier of rough seas in the middle of calm ocean…

海座頭：申し訳ありません　こんあめんどうを。。。
Umizatou: Forgive me for asking such a difficult task…


とら：けっ！わしが解放されるまで五００年間。。。
あっちこっちででかいカオしてるやつらがいるらしい！
そんなやつらにわしのここに在ることを教えてやらあ！！
Tora: Hn! It was 500 years before I was liberated…
There’re a lot of puffed up jerks running around now.
It’s time to let them know I’m here!


とら：あやかしだろーがわしにかかりゃすぐよ！じゃまだ、ひっこんでな！！
Tora: The Ayakashi’ll be here any minute. You’re in my way, get back!

海座頭：いえ。。。わたしもたのんだ以上は。。。
Umizatou: No…as I finish my plea…


海座頭：きました！
Umizatou: It is here!

Tora: It’s…HUGE!

Yokoo: Oh, I’m starved~

潮：夜は花火だぜ！
Ushio: There’ll be fireworks tonight!


麻子：あ～　みんな、先いてて。あたし浮き輪忘れたーっ！！
Asako: Ah, everyone go on ahead. I forgot my swim ring!


潮：あ～あ、やっぱりババァはボケるのがはやいね～！
Ushio: Aah, you’re really going senile fast in your old age!


潮：それでぶっとばしといてよ！
Ushio: Then I’ll be able to knock YOU around!


潮：へっへっへ～
Ushio: He he he~


潮：オレ。。。ああいうのみてるとちょっとイライラしてきてよ。。。
Ushio: I…I get so irritated when I see stuff like that!

Asako’s Mother: Asako….Asako!

麻子：なーにおかあちゃん！
Asako: What is it, Mommy?


お母さん：ホラ、お寺さんトコお父さんお仕事で大変だから。。。
　　そこのコこれからちょくちょくご飯食べにくるからね　　なかよくね。
Asako’s Mom: Honey, the priest at the temple is very busy…
So his son is going to come and have dinner with us now and again…
You can make a new friend.


お母さん：うしおちゃんよ。
Asako’s Mom: This is Ushio-chan.


麻子：ねえ。。。あんた母ちゃんいないんだって。ねえ。。。
Asako: Hey… You don’t have a mommy, right, so…


潮：うるさい　くそババァ！
Ushio: Shut up, old bat!

麻子：わっ、なにすんのよ～！
Asako: Wah, what are you doing!

Asako: Ah, there it is!


麻子：泳げても海にきた時は、やっぱりこれにのって浮いてるのが一番！
Asako: Even when you come to the beach to swim, floating around in one of these
things is the best!


男：ざけんな　ガキ！
Otoko: You little shit!

男：どーしてくれんだよ、水なんかかけやがって！
Man: Why’d you do that! Now it’s covered in water!


タツヤ：あ。。。あ。。。
Tatsuya: Uh….um….


男：ん～？
Man: Hmm?


男：へ～っ。ふるくせえトランシーバー！
Man: He~ A shitty old transceiver!

タツヤ：ああっ、さわるなよォッ！
Tatsuya: Aah, don’t touch it!

Man: He he Why do you have this thing?

タツヤ：やめてくれよォつ！！
Tatsuya: Stop it!!

男：折ってやったぜ　ざまー。。。
Otoko: Now it’s a bent up piece of-


麻子：まったく。。。お兄さんたちいっぱいで小さい子供にマジんなって。。。
Asako: Jeez… You seriously need this many full-grown men for one little kid…


男：なに　こいつ！
Man: Who the hell are you!

Man: What’s with this girl!

男：ちっ、くそうっ！
Man: Ah, shit!


麻子：ふん！
Asako: Hmph!


麻子：ほらねー。いたずらばっかりやってるとコワイ目にあうのよー。
Asako: Hey. If you keep playing pranks, you’re going to go through a lot more of that
kind of thing.


麻子：ん？
Asako: Hm?


タツヤ：わああああん
Tatsuya: Waaaaaaaaaaaa!


タツヤ：。。。このトランシーバー。。。母ちゃんが買ってくれたんだ。。。
Tatsuya: …My mom…bought this transceiver for me…


麻子：ふーん。今度二人でムセン遊びやろっか？
Asako: Mmm. Do you want to play walkie-talkie together now?

タツヤ：。。。でもこわれてんだ。。。
Tatsuya: …But it’s broken…

とら：ちィーッ！こりゃどーにもならんな！でかすぎらあ。
おまえのいうとーりだぜ！
Tora: Ch! I’m not doing anything to this thing! It’s too big. It’s just like you said!

海座頭：目のみえぬわたしじゃが、ヤツのでかい妖気は色までわかる！
Umizatou: I had never seen it with my own eyes, but I could feel the extent of its
great youki.*


とら：くそーっ！！
Tora: Dammit!!


*"Youki" translates as "ghostliness or strangeness" but I think the author was going for something more like "spiritual power".

Tora: My lightning slipped right off its surface!

とら：ぬっ！
Tora: Oof~

Tora: Crap!


とら：うわああああっ！
