Chapter 50
01
Miura: Like I said, if you change it from their graduation to his release from the hospital, they'll end their boycott.
Text to the right: Miura is fighting alone...!! Persuasion!! Persuasion!! Persuasion!!
Miura: Like I said, if he agrees to bring "Trap" back when Mashiro-kun is released from the hospital, you need to end your boycott.
Miura: Like I said, if you agree to be on hiatus until you're released from the hospital, I'll be able to persuade the chief editor and Fukuda-kun's group.
Miura: Fukuda-kun and the others are all drawing their manuscripts, so, if we act now, we can just barely manage to get them in Issue 33.
02-03
Title: Page 34 Recklessness and Will-Power
Text on the left: Congratulations! One year of serialization!!
05
Miura: Aoki-kun can't understand why "Trap" would be put on hiatus until your graduation from high school.
Miura: Both Nakai-kun and Aoki-kun have said that...
Miura: bringing it back when you're released from the hospital is acceptable.
Text: His strong will...will it crumble!?
Miura: According to Yoshida-san, Hiramaru-kun says they'll keep doing it anyway.
Mashiro: What about Niizuma-san and Fukuda-san?
Miura: ...They said they'd think about it once it was decided that "Trap" was being brought back after you're released from the hospital...
Miura: But I'm sure they'd agree if you said you were fine with waiting until then.
Mashiro: Could you call Niizuma-san and Fukuda-san here? I want to talk with them.
Takagi: Saiko!
Miura: ...So you'll accept waiting until your release from the hospital?
Mashiro: If you'll let me draw again...
Mashiro: And in the end, since I'm sick, I'm the one that's wronged everyone...even the readers...and "Jump"...
Mashiro: I've been a bother to the chief editor...
Miura: I see...
06
Guy: Don't screw with me. Just get me the transcripts if you can.
Editor: You say that, but the authors won't give them to us. Are we supposed to steal them?
Guy: Yeah, getting the transcript even if you have to knock them out is the job of an editor.
Editor: That's an old way of thinking...
Guy: Fine. If your four mangas aren't in the next issue, you'd better be prepared to be fired...
Guy: And not just you. The chief editor has to take responsibility for this, too.
Editor: ...We'll do our best to keep that from happening.
Editor: Threatening to fire us is pretty old-fashioned, too. It's also not fair...
Editor: Excuse me.
Miura: I need you to bring Fukuda-kun and Niizuma-kun to Mashiro-kun's hospital room.
Editor: ...Got it.
Editor: Miura's calling for me, so I'm going out for a bit.
Guy: Aren't I higher up than Miura?
Editor: Yes.
Editor: Officially at least.
07
Mashiro: Please end your boycott.
Mashiro: We're fine with waiting until I'm released from the hospital.
Fukuda: Do you really think that?
Takagi: We have no choice.
Mashiro: I don't want to take a break, but I'm at fault for getting sick.
Editor: Since Ashirogi-kun's said that, you really should end your boycott.
Fukuda: Wait. So if we end the boycott, you have a definite promise that "Trap" will be brought back upon his release from the hospital?
Miura: ...Not yet.
Fukuda: What the hell...?
08
Editor: We understand. We'll take responsibility as editors and persuade the chief editor!
Miura: Yuujirou-san...
Fukuda: C'mon, Yuujirou-san, Miura-san...
Editor: Please believe me. Even among the editorial department, there are a lot of people who think this decision is wrong.
Editor: The chief editor is stubborn, so even though we haven't convinced him yet, we should be able to by the time Mashiro-kun is released from the hospital.
Niizuma: Ohh...
Text left of Niizuma: Ohh...
Niizuma: Ashirogi-sensei, if you're fine with this, then I'm fine with it.
Niizuma: But I can see you want to draw.
Editor: I understand how Mashiro-kun feels, but it's not good to force oneself to draw while sick.
Editor: I don't understand the chief editor's decision beyond that.
Editor: I'll convince him even if it means I might get fired.
Fukuda: Yuujirou-san, you don't have to get fired.
Fukuda: ...Ah, fine. I get it. But if "Trap" doesn't come back when Mashiro-kun's released from the hospital, I'm gonna be really pissed and set you on fire.
Editor: O-oh.
Editor: That's how things are, Hiramaru-kun.
Hiramaru: G-good...the readers are waiting for "Otter"...
09
Chief Editor: What?
Editor: Mashiro-kun said he would wait until he's released from the hospital for "Trap" to be brought back and they ended their boycott.
Guy: Really? Hurry up and get those in. I'll stop the printing office, so you can still make it.
Editor: No, the chief editor still hasn't...
Chief Editor: Good job persuading them.
Chief Editor: But we're bringing "Trap" back when Ashirogi Muto graduates from high school.
10
Editor: Chief editor!!
Miura: Y-Yuujirou-san.
Miura: D-don't get so hot-headed. W-we still have time.
Editor: This isn't a problem that'll get solved with time.
Editor: Fine. I'll get "Crow" and "Kiyoshi" to the printing office.
Editor: I told him it would be best to quit repeating the same argument and just accept the decision.
Miura: If the chief editor doesn't fold, something worse than a boycott will probably happen.
Editor: I know. Now we're lying to Ashirogi-kun, Fukuda-kun, and the others!
Editor: What kind of deal did you make?
Miura: ...Mashiro-kun's surgery is over and he seems healthy enough...and he's already finished drawing Chapter 21...I just wish we'd run Chapter 19, because it resolves the current arc.
Editor: Yeah, he's full of energy. It's amazing how fast kids recover. And he says he has to wait until he graduates?
11
Hattori: Mashiro-kun has that much energy...
Hattori: Is he still drawing manuscripts?
Miura: He got a bit pale when he heard about the boycott, but since then he's been the same as always...
Miura: He's drawing even though he accepted the hiatus, so you could say he's too energetic.
Takagi: So we're on hiatus at least until you get out of the hospital...Maybe we should study for our exams...
Mashiro: I'm just gonna draw manga like usual.
Takagi: But if Yuujirou-san and the others aren't able to convince the chief editor, we'll be on hiatus until we graduate.
Mashiro: We just have to believe in Yuujirou-san and the others.
Mashiro: And we have to believe in ourselves...
Takagi: In ourselves?
Mashiro: All we have is manga.
Mashiro: Shujin, you should be coming up with ideas for interesting storyboards. But if you want to study for exams, I won't stop you.
12
Box: And the days went by.
Miura: Damn it... No matter what we say, the chief editor says no... What should we do...?
Miyoshi: He's just being stubborn...
Miyoshi: And it isn't fair for him to do this after they ended their boycott.
SFX: *draw*
SFX: *draw*
Takagi: Are we really going to be brought back when Mashiro leaves the hospital?
Miura: Sorry. I'll do something...
Mashiro: What's important is not giving up and working hard...
Box: In issue 36, it was announced that "Crow" was getting an anime.
Takagi: Seeing this makes me really jealous...Especially because our second volume was pushed back from September to after our hiatus ends...
Mashiro: After getting this far, we can't get impatient.
Takagi: "Otter" and "Kiyoshi" are doing pretty good, too. Damn it...
Takagi: "hidoor" is a little iffy...
Takagi: I want to be back now...
Mashiro: Just wait until I'm out of the hospital.
Takagi: I-it'll be nice if it works out that way...
13
Box: At times, Azuki and I would be alone.
Box: I was in the hospital and on hiatus, but during those times I actually felt happy.
Miho: We don't really talk much.
Mashiro: Yeah.
Mashiro: If our dream comes true...and we get married, it might be like this.
Miho: Yeah.
Mashiro: "Yeah"?
Miho: Um...I mean that even if we're not being shy, we're both the quiet type, so it might be like this...
Miho: Do you not want that?
Mashiro: I'm fine with it.
Miho: Me, too...
Miho: I'm glad...
Miho: But even though we're not talking, you're putting all your energy into drawing, right?
14
Mashiro: Sorry.
Miho: Don't be.
SFX: *draw*
Mashiro: It's to make my dream come true.
Miho: I know.
SFX: *draw*
SFX: *draw*
Box: And on September 15th, I was released from the hospital.
Editor: Mashiro-kun's finally out of the hospital, huh...? And the chief editor didn't change his mind. This is bad.
Editor: Fukuda and the others won't just take this...
Editor: Hey, hey, what are we gonna do? Give me a break.
Miura: Congratulations on being released!
Miyoshi: Hello.
Mashiro: Thanks for coming.
15
Takagi: So, what about the chief editor?
Miura: I told him this was the day, but, as usual, he didn't budge an inch.
Miura: Even though I've gotten Hattori-senpai and Yoshida-san on our side.
Takagi: I see.
Miyoshi: Huh? Where's Miho?
Miyoshi: She went to the bathroom and said she'd meet us down here.
16
Takagi: Everyone's here and the parting with Saiko would be hard, so she must've left on her own.
Miyoshi: I see...that does sound like something she'd do.
Mashiro: Okay, let's go.
Takagi: Okay.
Miyoshi: Eh?
Takagi: We're going to see the chief editor.
Miyoshi: Wh-why? Isn't it customary for the other people to go see the person who was released from the hospital?
Takagi: Yeah, he's out of the hospital and we've caused him a lot of problems. We have to show him how healthy Saiko is.
Mashiro: Oh, mom. I'm going to the editorial department before I go home. Sorry.
Mashiro's mom: I know. Just go.
17
Editor: Wow.
Miura: While in the hospital, he still managed to draw a chapter a week!
Miura: And the quality didn't drop. In fact, it went up!
Miura: There are 12 chapters here. So if we started running these, we would have enough to finish off the year!!
18
Miura: If we ran these, he could draw at a more leisurely pace of a chapter every 2 weeks up until he graduates.
Miura: And, of course, if it isn't popular, you can quit running it partway through.
Miura: As you can see, Mashiro-kun has made a complete recovery.
Miura: He's actually gained 6 kilos since he was hospitalized.
Miura: His ability to keep drawing while in the hospital is proof that he has the strength to do this.
Chief editor: If we do this...
Chief editor: and something really happens, what would you do?
Mashiro: I'm the one who went against everyone telling me to stop!!
Takagi: I went along with his proposal, too.
Takagi: We made sure to keep making a chapter a week without Miura-san noticing.
19
Mashiro: M-my uncle...Kawaguchi Tarou once said...
Mashiro: that getting serialized is all about "hubris", "hard work", and "luck".
Mashiro: And that, once you get serialized, it's all about...
Mashiro: "physical strength",
Mashiro: "mental strength",
Mashiro: and finally "will-power".
Chief editor: Kawaguchi Tarou...
Chief editor: read too many sports mangas.
20
Chief editor: Understood.
Miura: Eh?
Chief editor: After seeing Ashirogi Muto's display of will-power...
Chief editor: I'll bring back "Detective Trap" as soon as I can.
21
Miura: All right!
Takagi: Thank goodness...
Editor: Waaah!
Editor: "And finally will-power"...? What is this the Showa era...?
Hattori: Miura...
Miura: H-Hattori-senpai, wasn't that the strategy you used at the serialization conference...? Mashiro-kun and Takagi-kun just, um...
Hattori: Mashiro-kun, Takagi-kun...
Mashiro & Takagi: Yes.
Hattori: That was much too reckless.
Mashiro & Takagi: ...Sorry.
22
Hattori: Well done...you really tried hard...
On cell phone: from Mashiro-kun

Miho's email subject: RE: "Trap" Coming Back
Miho's email body: Congratulations! Be careful about your health. Even if you're hospitalized due to manga again, I won't come see you. I don't like people who can't take care of themselves. LOL MIHO
