OOOOOKOOKKOKOK OKAY! There we have it, the last chapter. A real tearjerker, and I think a pretty fitting end. Though I'm sure like with Gash, some people will think it's kinda cheesy. Also there's lots of cheese. Anyhow, I loved this series and I thought the emotion of the end was really amazing. And I loved the adult sort of answer of "evil won't disappear, but by striving to understand each other we can diminish it." Ah, what a series. Ok I'm gonna translate that interview with Isayama Hajime (author of Assault of the on the in the Moon of Saturn) soon, too.

Not only that, but animals take great care in raising plants with delicious fruits
and try to make more of them.
I think leaving seeds behind is quite a weapon,
don't you?
Grasses are the same. Even on land where vegetation doesn't grow
we step on and plow that ground with our hooves.
Then we leave grass roots there, then eat leaves and leave droppings
which create incredible fields.
SFX: BASHIH MOSHIH
Guys: As we live our lives
we protect the trees and grass.

Elephant: If we give an ear to plants more often
we can coexist with them more fruitfully.
Maybe even fish will be able to use cries eventually.
Hey, that sounds interesting! Maybe it could happen!

But anyhow, what you were saying before,
Moko is right.
This planet allowed Tarouza... Allowed humans to live.
Like it said "Humans, live on this planet".
As Kuou would say
"This planet accepted humanity."

Page 180:
Kokono: What determines if an animal flourishes or goes extinct is its surroundings.
And when an environment makes a comeback, animals that had all but disappeared might suddenly appear in abundance.
And even when humans would try to increase the populations of species with fewer numbers
they weren't able to prevent extinctions due to still births and child neglect and things like that...
So if you look back at the data of the past, it doesn't seem all that strange
that this planet that makes up those environments determines which species live.
When you risked your life, you protected all life on this planet...
No, you saved the planet itself.
So I'm sure it's thankful to you.

Kokono: So if you consider the miracle of this planet bringing you back to life,
so I wonder if man-made ideas like *"Minimum Viable Population" really exist?
Asterisk: *The minimum number of individual members of a species needed for it to continue to exist into the long term.

is what we animals should be aiming for.

Raiku: I learned a whole lot in writing "Doubutsu no Kuni", too.
The things that left the biggest impression were...
70% of biologists believe the current era to be an "age of mass extinction".
The most famous case of mass extinction that everyone knows is the extinction of the dinosaurs.
But there were 5 mass extinction events in the last 500 million years.
Handwritten: Please, just... assume these are dinosaurs.
Raiku: And in the current age, we are losing species and biodiversity on a scale
no smaller than those 5 mass extinctions.
With amphibians like frogs that are very sensitive to changes in their surroundings
about half of over 6,000 species have disappeared.
And a major factor in that is humans' destruction of the environment.
If humans disappeared from cities,
then in 30 years, they would return to being an ecosystem flourishing with plants and animals.
*And there are some cities where that's actually happened.

Page 191:
Raiku: The best way for destroyed ecosystems to go back to the way they were would be for humans to disappear.
But that's also pretty sad.
The culture humans have is pretty wonderful, isn't it?
And the plentiful ecosystems of nature are wonderful as well, aren't they?
