"Once a ball has begun, it cannot be ended prematurely."-----. Although it breaks his heart to do it, Charles carries out the "Écartèlement" of Damiens swearing to be as merciful as it is within his power to be.
But because of the packhorses thought to have been switched in by Nicolas, the execution has reached an impasse...
Does Charles have any way out of this dilemma?! And someone unexpected is found...? The story of the revolution of the people that carry the stigma of "innocent hearts" now accelerates----!!

Author Flap:
"What is essential is invisible to the eye..." said the Little Prince.

So even if the heart is neglected as something invisible, it will eventually appear in the form of words or actions.

I want to treasure the invisible as well.

Heading: Historie jusqu'a present.
(The story leading to the present)
On March 26th 1757, the peasant Damiens was sentenced to execution by "Écartèlement" (being ripped apart) for the crime of attempted assassination of the king. It would be the biggest execution in 147 years. And with Charles' Father, the Third Generation "Monsieur de Paris" being ill, Charles' Uncle Nicolas, the executioner of the Versailles Imperial Court "Prevote De l'Hotel", was invited to take command of the execution,
In order to learn the truth of Damiens' cases, Charles went with Nicolas to the prison the Conciergerie. But there, they found a Damiens whom had been reduced to an atrocious state after being tortured in order for a confession to be coerced out of him... Nicolas restrained the Torturer, Subyss. However, Nicolas also sought to use this great execution as a stepping stone for his taking the top executioner seat in all of France from Charles...
On the day the execution was to be performed, an enthusiastic crowd gathered in Place de Greve expecting to witness a major event. Hour by hour, the execution drew nearer... Charles arrived at the Conciergerie to pick up the one condemned to death, Damiens. Damiens had been tortured for several weeks and had still remained silent. However, the true tragedy came later.
For his "Amende honorable" before his execution, Damiens was brought to Nostre Dame Cathedral. There he saw his beloved son Jack whom he was certain was dead. From the verge of death, the boy's life had been spared by Baptist's revitalizing surgery. Damiens screamed at his unavoidable death, and spoke the truth. It is true that he pointed a blade at the king, but he had no desire to assassinate him. It was for his son that was starving in poverty. He wanted to verify that the King who lived in the Palace of Versailles which shone like the sun, was a 'human' like him and his son. "I did it for the future people of France!!!" he yelled------.
Charles appealed for Damiens' acquittal for his loyalty and courage, and sought to halt the execution. However, his uncle, Nicolas, rejected these pleas. He said "Once a ball has begun, it cannot be ended prematurely." With Charles grieving over the unavoidable execution, Damiens spoke kindly to him. "My dream was to give bread to poor children. Charles, your dream is to rid this world of executions. But unless we dance the same steps as the rest of the world, we will be driven out of the dance circle..." On his way up the stairs to the execution platform, Damiens vowed to Charles that even if his "ideal" steps could not be made now, they would surely connect to the future. With faith that someday there would be a future of "equality", he now would face "death". And with all of the mercy in his being, Charles faced the execution of the century--------.

Nicolas: Charles...?
......It's almost been torn off from the carbonization...
Uncle, please undo all of these ropes.
Nicolas: !!?

Page 18:
Nicolas: What are you saying, Charles...?!
Charles: The bones in his wrists have from brittle and will break off easily.
If we pull on them with ropes as they are now, they will only be torn off and it will not lead to his death.
Nicolas: ..........!!!
Charles: Now then, Uncle, please retie these ropes to his elbows and knees at once.
The *condyles of the humerus and the femur form a hook shape so the ropes should stop!!!
Asterisk: *Condyle = Part of the joints of bones.
Nicolas: B-Be quiet, Charles.
I am the one who has authority here, do not say anything that does not need to be said!!!
Charles: Also the ropes the horses are pulling are too short!!!
With these, they won't be able to get a running start, and therefore will not be able to pull with enough power!!!
