As a translator, I aim for translations that are factually accurate, but which sound like natural spoken English. I originally started fan-translating manga because I was sick and tired of seeing translations that sounded wooden, stilted, and nothing like the way real people actually talk. I bring nearly two decades worth of prose writing experience to my translation work, and always try my best to produce character dialogue that is lively, fluid, and as real as possible. Creating a good, factually-accurate translation doesn't require boring literalism -- in fact, that often obscures other aspects of the text, such as the tone and individual personality of characters' speech. What it does require is skill, practice, and the willingness to carefully reread/recheck/revise.
