In response to user sgrondo’s request, I give you chapter 162 of HSD Kenichi. When I first read the English scanlation, it seemed mostly fine, but after I compared it to the RAW it looks like the translators completely missed the context of many terms and ended up making their best guesses in a lot of the chapter.
There was a LOT of Chinese martial arts trivia in this chapter. Luckily, I am fluent in both Chinese and Japanese, but I had trouble deciding how the translations of Chinese techniques should come across in English. Some of the styles shown in this chapter are known in Japan to some extent, so I have left those in their Japanese pronunciation (i.e. Suiken = Drunken Fist. It is Zuiquan in Chinese pinyin.) However, the author has attempted to maintain near-Chinese pronunciations with some other, lesser-known techniques using katakana, and so I have opted to transliterate these from Chinese to English rather than spell out some long katakana name that nobody will remember anyway. As usual, I still translate the literal meanings for all named techniques, regardless of their origin. In the end, it was interesting translating this chapter, since I’m a bit of a martial artist myself. Enjoy. :)
Chapter 162 – Ghost Attack!!

Niijima: I’ll just hide behind these strong girls…
Renka: Do it!
Kenichi: Y-you! You’re staggering!
Takeda: Ah, don’t, Kenichi-kun!
Flag Boy: Oh, nooooo! Commander Shirahama is too kind-hearted!!
Page 3
Miu/Renka: Ahhh!
Takeda: Oh, my god! Tell me that wasn’t a direct hit to the back of his head!
Flag Boy: Commander~!!
Page 4
Flag Boy: Ohhh! He blocked it!
Takeda: Whew! Not bad!
Kenichi: It happened again! My body reacted on its own!!
Kenichi: There’s no mistaking it… this is the result of Elder’s Seikuuken training!
Elder text: You’ll die, you know!
Page 5
Kenichi: Whoa- a feint!?
Siegfried: *cough* *cough* As expected, Kenichi easily blocked an attack on his vitals!
Ukita: S-sorry… even the thought of getting hit in that place gives me chills.
Kenichi: Of course! I always protect my groin since my masters pound me there day and night…
Sakaki: Your guard is too damn weak! How many times do I have to tell you until you get it!?
Sakaki: No matter how big a man might be, all it takes is one hit there and he’s out!
Kenichi: GYAAHH…ERGH…UGHHH~
Page 6
Raichi: Hn!
Page 7
Renka: I see, Suihassenken*!
*lit. “Eight Drunken Hermit Fist”
Niijima: Suiken*!? You mean that form of kenpou where you get drunk!?
*lit. “Drunken Fist”
TL Note: The following are the Japanized names of the Eight Hermits from which the techniques of Chinese Drunken Fist are traditionally supposed to have originated from. I’ve also included the Chinese pinyin names for the interested.
From left to right, top to bottom:
1. Tetsu Kairi - Li Tieguai
2. Ryo Douhin – Lu Dongbin
3. Kan Shouri - Zhongli Quan
4. Ka Senko - He Xiangu
5. Chou Karou - Zhang Guo Lao
6. Sou Kokukyuu - Cao Guojiu
7. Kan Shoushi - Han Xiang Zi
8. Ran Saiwa - Lan Caihe
Box (Renka): The user doesn’t really get drunk. As a “Chishouken*” artist, she staggers and tumbles in order to harness the ground’s “negative” energy to achieve victory…
*lit. “Earth-Lying Fist”
Box: (Renka): The style is ancient, supposedly originating from the Eight Taoist Hermits. The acrobatics involved require some of the most difficult training in kenpou.

Renka: But to display such skill with the Suihassenken… just who on earth is that girl!?
Raichi: Hey, you! What are you planning? When I catch you I’ll tear you limb from limb…
Raichi: Why haven’t you attacked me even once?
Takeda: Ah, haven’t we heard this before…
Siegfried: This is bad…
Page 9
Kenichi: …the truth is,
Kenichi: I’ve decided that I will never strike a woman!
Kenichi thought: keh, despite my beliefs, if she suddenly grabs me I won’t be able to…
Raichi: Whaa~t!?
Raichi: Heh…
Raichi: Then you can just sit there and die!
Raichi: It’ll be less trouble for me!
Page 10
Kenichi: Eeeiii! That’s too bad… this is my last resort!!
Miu: What’s happening to him?
Kenichi: CHOWAAAH*!!!
*Ma Kensei sometimes makes this noise; it’s somewhat stereotypically Chinese, like how “Hiya!” is viewed in English.
Page 11
Takeda: He… flew!!
Miu: Those are undoubtedly Ma-san’s movements!
Renka: Even worse, this is exactly like Papa’s pervert mode…
Ranka text: Ke-Kenichi…
Kenichi: CHOWAWAWAWAWAWAWA!!!
Raichi: What!?
Raichi: Ergh…
Page 12
Miu: Geez… th-this is terrible!
Niijima: He’s desperate…
Raichi: Argh… I don’t like the way he’s using his hands!
Raichi: …but what’s this, in a second his movements became highly refined!?
Raichi: They’re not attacks!
Raichi: I can’t sense him!!?
Niijima: There’s no actual killing intent… he’s only groping, after all…
Miu: Stop it, Kenichi-san! Don’t you have any shame as a martial artist!?
Renka: All right! Feel ‘er up, Kenichi!
Page 13
Kenichi: Got her!
Raichi: Damn it!
Page 14
Kenichi: I started it as Ma-sifu and I’ll finish it as Koetsuji-sensei!
Kenichi: These are the two ultimate techniques of Ryouzanpaku’s masters!
Page 15
Kenichi: Your joints are locked… surrender.
Raichi: You’re too naïve. I guess that does suit you though, Mr. Flower Shop.
Kenichi: Eh!!?
Raichi: Hah!!
Page 16
Kensei: Yami’s first target is…
Kensei: our disciple’s life.
Kensei: Therefore, Kenichi has a right to know the truth of the matter.
Elder: Yes, it’s exactly as Ma says. It is necessary since his life will soon be threatened.
Elder: Also, Kenichi must decide…
Elder: Whether he will remain at Ryouzanpaku or not!
Page 17
Shio: Since we’re here, won’t it be fine to keep it from him?
Shio: We can just rescue him when he gets into a bad situation.
Akisame: I’ve heard that “One Shadow Nine Fists” has begun to move…
Akisame: We should discuss how we will protect him from them.
Shio: What, the One Shadow Nine Fists!? Are you serious!?
Kensei: And then there’s the matter of Ogata acting on his own. It looks like they have their differences at the top as well.
Shigure: So Kenichi could… leave.
Shigure: But if not, he… could die.
Elder: Mhm.
Elder: This time, it’s truly a matter of life or death.
Elder: Kenichi-kun is too kind…
Elder: That’s where I’m most worried about him.
Page 18
Raichi: Ho, you took my Kong Ce Chuai Tui* quite well!
*Chinese, lit. “Heaven’s Edge Stamping Feet”
Kenichi: W-watch out!
Kenichi: You hit the asphalt directly…
Kenichi: A-are you okay!?
Renka: She’s going to hit you with a Pan Tui Die*! Be careful!
*also Chinese, lit. “Whirling Leg Drop”
Page 19
Raichi: You’re childish no matter where you go. So this is the disciple of Ryouzanpaku, which follow the Katsujin Ken*…
*Fist of Preserving Life
Kenichi: Ryouzanpaku… how did you know that!?
Raichi: You are just like a flower that has been raised completely in the sunshine.
Raichi: However, where there is light, there is also darkness.
Kenichi: You…
Kenichi: Y-you’re from that one time…
Page 20
Raichi: You cannot win against me!
Raichi: It’s because you have the wrong attitude towards this fight!
