Translation: History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi 162

In response to user sgrondo’s request, I give you chapter 162 of HSD Kenichi. When I first read the English scanlation, it seemed mostly fine, but after I compared it to the RAW it looks like the translators completely missed the context of many terms and ended up making their best guesses in a lot of the chapter.

There was a LOT of Chinese martial arts trivia in this chapter. Luckily, I am fluent in both Chinese and Japanese, but I had trouble deciding how the translations of Chinese techniques should come across in English. Some of the styles shown in this chapter are known in Japan to some extent, so I have left those in their Japanese pronunciation (i.e. Suiken = Drunken Fist. It is Zuiquan in Chinese pinyin.) However, the author has attempted to maintain near-Chinese pronunciations with some other, lesser-known techniques using katakana, and so I have opted to transliterate these from Chinese to English rather than spell out some long katakana name that nobody will remember anyway. As usual, I still translate the literal meanings for all named techniques, regardless of their origin. In the end, it was interesting translating this chapter, since I’m a bit of a martial artist myself. Enjoy. :)

I have received quite a few requests, particularly from non-native English speakers and the Nerieru scanlation group, to re-translate some of HSDK's older chapters that were of very poor quality or even "translated" through Babelfish. :blink

The atrocious translations begin with chapter 149, so here is my version.

Uh, I'm new, so do I say this here?: I'm looking to getting into the translating scene, but I don't often have free time so I'll probably be working freelance. I am confident that my command of Japanese and English is such that I personally don't need a proofreader (if I'm unsure of something I will note it though). At most, I would like to apply as a proofreader or "translator's assistant". I would be useful in this role because I besides proofreading English grammar I can help translators check against the original RAW to see if they translated correctly.
