A script a day keeps the sorrow away~ - Told you there was more! Keep your eyes open.
This is the Omake stuff for Volume 2. I don't know if there are any volume raws for the series floating around or not, haven't checked. Fact is, I wanted to cover this stuff for those who happened to buy the volumes and want to enjoy them to the fullest or simply appreciate any extra info!
Notes: Author’s column:
- This script is generally free for use, as OD is currently not handled by any group! - Please send me a short notice if you intend to use it. We can also discuss an ongoing collaboration for this project with advantages, such as reservation rights for the TL.
- Most important ground rule remains: Credit me!
- No changes to the script without consulting me first!
- That being said, I'm no native English speaker. Thorough proofreading is advised before using it in your SL!
Thank you very much for picking up the second volume of “Oumagadoki Doubutsuen”.
Since we often heard “That series’ name is so hard to remember…”, my editor – with the support of the JUMP magazine – established the abbreviation “Oumaga”.
Even though I thought that it sure is a nice abbreviation I always kept referring to the series as “Oumagadoki”, “Doubutsuen” or “the manga” when talking about it.
For some reason I must have been too shy to say it.
So without further ado, Oumagado-……
O-, Oumaga Volume 2 starts right here! Phew~.
He’s somewhat of a good-willed big brother. But during Shishido’s big rampage he was the first to run away and seemed to be shaking quite badly in his boots.
But nah, he was probably just running off in order to call for help, right?
Yeah, let’s just go with that.
Since at first glance, most of the zoo’s entourage looks like either like a bunch of normal monsters or strangely human-like I gave him the rather simple design of a wolf man. That’s because I wanted people to be able to see and understand this was a manga about transforming animals.
(An arrow points towards Uwabami who is chatting with Hana in the background: One of those strangely human-like fellows.
Because he can fly I kinda gave him this air force theme. The truth is, he actually isn’t a “hawk” (jap. taka). He’s an eagle; his species is called White-tailed sea-eagle. He’s got enough backbone not to care about the mistake the director made when naming him. It’s a relic from the one shot. But since he himself doesn’t really seem to mind it’s fine.Igarashi
A gentleman. When I went to the Akihiyama Zoo to collect data for the series I was completely enchanted by the cuteness of the seals. If you look closely, you can see he had an appearance in chapter 1.
(The scene is a picture of Takahiro flying with Shiina on his back while holding Igarashi in his hands.
Oh yeah, I know this doesn’t really matter but the original concept for this picture was “A Stroll in the Sky”. Despite this, you can’t help but think of a predator and his prey, right?
The Gangster of the Sea! Accordingly to this title he’s got the appearance of a real mobster. Boy, was he a huge fella! And THIS guy was the first visitor Hana ever got to greet…! Not your ideal customer.
Since whales and dolphins would burn their skin if they’re out of water for a long period of time, he always carries around a plastic bottle of deep sea water.
But where might he be hiding it? Maybe it’s somewhere attached to the back of his mantle, that’s what I would guess. But I can’t say for sure.
Also, “Sakamata” is another name for orca. [TN: Just like you have orca and killer whale in English.]
A shark. It’s a shame he got trashed so fast but I really love sharks. Their shape is so cool and scary, they’re just wonderful.
I really want to draw more of him~
Well, hindsight is just easier than foresight, I guess…
I still had some pages left. It’s the second volume.
Now then, I have a wonderful thing to share with you. I got this sublime illustration as a present from Furudate Haruichi-sensei who had released “Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya-senpai no kaidan.” in Shōnen JUMP. You can find it on Page 146 of this volume. When I received it I was so happy I couldn’t even move, thus I think it is okay for you guys to take a break and don’t move as well.
Birthday: 1 February
Blood type: A
Height: 176 cm
Hates: Useless things
The director of the aquarium. A real unpleasant guy! Not only because he beat up my beloved shark (boo!), but also because it takes a lot of lines to draw him (double boo!), I find him to be a totally unpleasant guy!
That helmet he’s wearing is based on the headpiece of an old diver’s suit that was displayed in the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium. When I was younger, that thing was creeping me out. – Well, still does today.
Oh, and he is 27 years old. Since I forgot to include the age of Hana and the Director last volume, I will just write them down here:
Hana → 16 years
Director → ? years
Please excuse that.
A crab. That store* is really delicious, right? Since I didn’t really have time to work out any of the designs of the Aquarium’s entourage beforehand, I mostly drew them right off the bat as I was going through with the manuscript. Because I just started drawing without thinking things through, they turned out too complex. As a result, I made sure to send this guy to hell!
[TN: He is referring to the kani dōraku (Crab Dissipation/Joy Road) restaurant which is the origin of the character name.]Tekka Maki
That girl was a little on the stupid side. In this manga it’s said that the top speed tunas can reach is 160 km/h but that just seems to be fake and bollocks, whereas in reality most think of about 80 km/h as a reasonable estimation. But the fast always dream of getting even faster, right? And who would know the truth better than a tuna itself…?
He’s a perv. The more I was researching special traits of the octopus the more I was surprised by their immense strength.
Plus, when draw him I get the munchies for Takoyaki*. It comes completely natural…
[TN: Takoyaki = grilled octopus snack]Ikkaku
Right from the beginning I had this concept of the Aquarium’s entourage as a bunch of “wild creatures”, so god knows why he alone turned out the way he did. It really makes you wonder…
Ikkaku: On the left you can find the staff pages. // We’re looking forward to your next visit.
