Hello, I'm Nibi Nekomata and this is my first translation, so any advice/corrections would be appreciated. The scanlation group KEFI is currently doing wonderful Fairy Tail releases, so please support them in their efforts when they finish the latest chapters. This is really an exercise to help me practice my Japanese skills while at the same time helping hungry Fairy Tail fans who just need to know what happens next. Leon: アンタがなかなか強い魔法を教えてくれないから倉庫の魔道書を読ませてもらった
Leon: Because you didn’t teach me very strong magic, I had to read the magic texts that were hidden away.
(Translator’s Note: I’m not completely sure about this one. I haven’t read 37, so I’m not sure what he’s referencing. The kanji for “warehouse” was there, but my native Japanese friend explained that it carries more of an ‘old storage’ connotation in this context.)
Leon: こんなに強い魔法を隠してたんだ…. “アイスドシエル”
Leon: It hid such a strong magic… “Ice Dossier”
(Translator’s Note: I have no idea what the hell they’re trying to say. The closest thing I could come up with was “Ice Dossier” and that makes no sense whatsoever. If anyone has any theories, please let me know. Right now I’ll go with the poor translation just because it looks better than some garbled romanji.)
(Kanji reads: 絶対氷結, loosely meaning “Absolute Freezing” or something along those lines.)
Grey: “アイスドシエル”
Grey: “Ice Dossier”
Ur: リオン！！！ その本最後まで読んでないだろ！！！
Ur: Leon!!! Did you read the book to the end!!!
Ur: その魔法を使った者は….
Ur: The person who uses that magic….
Ur: うあっ
Ur: Waaa!
Grey: ウル！！！
Grey: Ur!!!
Ur: す…すさまじい魔力だ....
Ur: In… Incredible magic power…

Leon: デリオラにはどんな魔法も効かない…. この魔法で永久に氷の中に閉じ込めてやる

Thank you for all your corrections! Some of the cases you pointed out were very liberal translations on my part; I had the original meaning of the line but altered it a little to make it sound better in English. Since I'm still fairly green in terms of getting the translation to flow, I had trouble deciding when to leave the literal meaning and when to use a looser phrasing, but I'm sure that's a skill one develops gradually as they translate.
Sometimes that was the case, but a lot of times I just didn't pick up on a certain aspect of the line, so the corrections really help me see the things I need to pay more attention too as well.
This one was really helpful, for example. Somehow I just didn't pick up on it like I should have.
This is probably a great example of where I get stuck on longer, more complicated lines. I'm still a pretty basic student in terms of complex sentence construction, so I was expecting to miss some of the nuances from the outset. This really helped me identify what I was missing though.
I think this another really good example of that.
Iced Shell! Wow, that makes a lot more sense than what I was thinking. I got so caught up on trying to figure out what ドシエル meant that I never considered ド might be part of the former word, instead of the latter. Katakana is not my friend. XD
I tried to play with the phrasing and obviously fell a bit short. The phrasing of the later half of your correction makes Grey's next line fit better in the context, so I probably should have tried to keep it consistent as well.
Again, I can't thank you enough for your advice! I'm sure that this sort of practice will really help my language progress in the long run. Thank you so much!

I don't ask so many people if they want to work for KEFI... Imo, you're a lot better than many scanlation translators out there. You have good command on English grammar and your Japanese knowledge is pretty good. (Not that I went through whole a lot of translation before, but I think I've gone through enough.) So, unless you don't really want to work for KEFI or something else planned, please help out .__. As barbapapa said, any help you can give us... we'll greatly appreciate it ^^
