(*White Day, March 14th, is a holiday in Japan and other parts of East Asia. This month’s synopsis is a continuation from last month’s; in Japan, it is the custom for girls to give chocolate to guys and friends for Valentine’s day (a custom started by a chocolate shop in the late 1950s in Tokyo to achieve a bigger market, since back then, the social norms made it hard for women to confess their love to men). Soon, the industry began marketing sweets to men as “a return” for the chocolate given to them on Valentine’s day, and in 1978, the National Confectionery Industry Association got together and determined that March 14th will be the new “White Day”; the name “white” means that the men should return something white on that day, such as marshmallows and white chocolate, but now the gifts are not necessarily white, or even food, with the popular gifts being cookies, or candy, like this month’s Pandora Hearchu. It was said last month that it was “reverse” chocolate; the guys gave girls the chocolate, not the other way around, and so this month’s White Day is “reverse”, too, the girl is giving candy to the guy.*)
