White Tiger
When will the "Sleeping Conan" wake up!?

2
Sidetext: Haibara has discovered a clue to solving the puzzle left behind by Samizu Kichiemon!
Ayumi: It's true!

Ayumi: You can see the character for "sparrow"!

Ayumi: There, on top of the red pedestal!
Genta: Then maybe there used to be a sparrow statue on top!

Mitsuhiko: Yes, and perhaps...since the spot where it was removed looks pretty old, I think the statue was stolen a long time ago...
Haibara: It's not a sparrow...

Haibara: Vermilion is a shade of red...if the missing character above "sparrow" is the one for "vermilion"...it would be referring to one of the legendary Divine Beasts...
Suzaku, the vermilion bird...

2
Ayumi: Su-suzaku?
Genta: I've seen that in a lot of games...
Mitsuhiko: That's a red bird, similar to a phoenix, right?

Haibara: Yes...And maybe on the white pedestal to the right of the red one was...
Byakko, the white tiger!

Haibara: On the black pedestal to the right of that one was...
Genbu, the black tortoise!

Haibara: And the green pedestal to the right of that one and to the left of the red pedestal...
Undoubtedly had a statue of Seiryuu, the azure dragon.

Mitsuhiko: What a minute! The characters for "azure dragon" are written on it, right?
Genta: But the pedestal is green!

Haibara: Originally, the character meaning "azure" was used to describe the color of vegetation, trees, and plants...
So the original color of Seiryuu was green...

Haibara: Each of the Divine Beasts guard one of the compass directions: Suzaku the West, Byakko the West, Genbu the North, and Seiryuu the East..And situated in the center....

4
Haibara: Is this Kirin!
Ayumi: Oh!

Haibara: Although, in many versions of the legend it would be Kouryuu the yellow dragon...
Now, for the writing at the bottom of this column...

Mitsuhiko: It was written by Samizu Kichiemon...
Haibara: In case the four colored keys were lost or stolen after his death...

Haibara: The first part, "One seeking the Kirin without depending on the correct way of doing things"...
Is talking about somebody who wants to obtain the Kirin's horn without using the keys...

Haibara: As for the second part, "should submit himself to change"...
The change is referring to something like a change of time or place...

Haibara: And the ”submit himself" means to allow himself to be at someone else's mercy and go with the natural order of things...
Genta: So, if you just wait and not do anything the Kirin will just appear from the column?
Mitsuhiko: No...

Mitsuhiko: If the four pedestals in the corners of this temple are Suzaku, Byakko, Genbu, and Seiryuu...

Mitsuhiko: They each are symbolic--aren't they each associated with a direction on the compass?

5
Haibara: True...
It likely means to place the four pedestals into some kind of natural order, but...
Ayumi: Colors don't have an order...
Mitsuhiko: Maybe it means placing their compass directions in some kind of order?

Genta: When we recite them doesn't North comes after East?
Ayumi: I think the first one is usually North! I mean, on maps they all put North at the top!

Haibara: It appears you can't determine the order just from the directions, however...They could go either clockwise or counterclockwise...
Mitsuhiko: That's right...But it would be good if there were a proper way to order Suzaku, Byakko, Genbu, and Seiryuu...

Ayumi: If Conan-kun were awake he'd know...
Genta: He's still out, though...

Haibara: Anyway, if he didn't use the 4 keys simultaneously on the 4 pedestals to unlock the column holding the Kirin...
it appears the only way was to somehow place the four pedestals in some kind of order...

Haibara: And for the Kid to do that by himself in the dark is nearly impossible...if he has accomplices here then he would have given some kind of signal, and the first thing is to try and confirm that...
Ayumi: Confirm? How?

6
Haibara: From them!
The TV crew with the evidence on tape!

Masui: What?
You want to check the recording for images and sounds from the time of the blackout?

Masui: I think you'll be able to do that immediately at the broadcast truck parked outside...
Shinkai: Why?
Haibara: To check if it caught any strange noises or lights...

Suzuki: It certainly appears that in order to turn the 4 keys simultaneously he would need some sort of signal...
Nakamori: Well, that's no problem, but there really weren't any strange sounds...

Nakamori: There was a flash of light when the Kid knocked out that 4 eyes kid using the stungun...
And the lights when the kids rushed towards him...

Suzuki: But that's troublesome...I want to check the images and the sound, but those who are suspected of possibly being the Kid aren't able to leave this temple...
Shinkai: Well...what if I contact the broadcast van and tell them to bring in the monitor. Then I'll get them to replay the recording from the time of the power went out.

7
Monitor: And so if I tack them onto the wall like this, we won't see any sign of him!

Monitor: It'll be my victory!
Suzuki: That's when I tacked the keys to to the wall!

Nakamori: And then immediately afterwards there was the blackout...

Nakamori: It's a blackout!?
Suzuki: Don't panic
A blackout is to be expected!

Haibara: That's the sound of the storm shutters breaking and the rain and wind blowing in...
Ayumi: I was frightened and put on my hood!
Genta: Me, too!
Mitsuhiko: Same here!

Nakamori: Sshh! Watch quietly!
Kids: OK!
Shinkai: Are you getting that!?
Masui: Yeah, but since it's pitch black we can't see anything...

Shinkai: And the sound!?
Hisumi: We're picking it up for now...
Shinkai: Those are our voices...
Masui: Yeah...
Hisumi: You're right...

8
SFX: Peeee Peeee Peeee

Ayumi: Isn't that the sound of the electricity being cut off from the pedestals...
Mitsuhiko: Yeah...they said you can cut it off going in order: green, red, white, black, so we were nervous...
Genta: I was the last one so my heart was racing...

Nakamori: Shhh!
Kids: Shhh!
SFX: Go Go Go

Haibara: That's the sound of the center column sliding upward and revealing the Kirin statue...
Suzuki: Wh-what's that sound!?
Nakamori: I can't believe this!?

SFX: RWAA
Ayumi: Co-conan-kun!?
Suzuki: That's the flash from the stungun...

Suzuki: Huh? There's a light...
Monitor: Hang on, Conan-kun!
Ayumi: That was mine! I was worried when I heard Conan-kun's scream...

Mitsuhiko: The, the Kirin's horn is gone!
Nakamori: At this point it appears the gem had already been stolen...

9
Monitor: Have the lights been restored!?
Calm down! Nobody move from this place!!
Hey, what's happened?
Did the Kid come?
Gee...

Nakamori: So in the end, there weren't any strange sounds or lights...
Suzuki: No...If I had to guess, I'd say the sound of the column sliding occurred...

Suzuki: Even before we saw the stungun flash and heard the cry from the 4 eyes kid...
Haibara: But if that sound was a fake one streamed in by the Kid and he used that time to pass the keys to his accomplices...

Haibara: He could have used the interval where we separated ourselves from the pedestals after we heard Edogawa-kun's scream...
To simultaneously turn the keys...

Suzuki: That's certainly possible...but are you certain all of you were guarding the keyholes on the pedestals up till the the time of the scream?
Genta: Yes, we were!
Ayumi: We spread our arms wide like this!
Mitsuhiko: We leaned against the pedestals and blocked the holes!

Suzuki: Incidentally, which one of the pedestals were each of you guarding?
Genta: I was guarding...

10
Genta: ...that black one!

Mitsuhiko: I took the green pedestal!

Ayumi: I had the white pedestal!
Suzuki: Oh....

Haibara: And I had the red pedestal!
Suzuki: But weren't you afraid?
Although the power was out, the pedestals had the electric current...

Mitsuhiko: Yeah, as for that...
Nakamori: Hey, old man!

Nakamori: This floor...it's rotted away in a few spots, but isn't there steel in there like in the walls?
Suzuki: No...
Under the floor, in the ceiling and in the four corner columns, we used a more complicated method, and so we didn't do that.

Suzuki: Well, under the floor there's a wire mesh, so there no way to escape!
Shinkai: Excuse me...

11
Shinkai: If you're saying there's one of the Kid's accomplices here,i know of someone suspicious...
Suzuki: Huh?
Shinkai: That guy in charge of sound!
Hisumi: Eh?

Masui: A young member of the staff was supposed to come, but he was a last minute replacement...
Hisumi: But...it's because they couldn't get in touch with him quickly enough...

Hisumi: You're one to talk. Aren't you, who's in charge of the camerawork, suspicious, too?
Masui: Huh?

Hisumi: That's what I heard! The cameraman for this show was my junior in college, and as a veteran cameraman you forced him to give you this assignment!
Masui: What are you talking about!? He just graduated from college and didn't have to confidence to do a live broadcast so he actually called me and asked if we could switch!!

Shinkai: I also asked the director that on the phone...Since Counselor Suzuki was going to the trouble preparing matching sweatshirts for the children in order to raise their fighting spirits, he made a switch to the veteran...
Suzuki: Going to the trouble?... The TV station told me it's better for generating excitement, so I provided the funds to make the Detective Boys' outfits.

Suzuki: Furthermore, aren't you the one who introduced me to the clothing maker over the phone, madame reporter?
Shinkai: Eh? Me? I don't know about that, but...

Nakamori: Hey, what's going on here!?
Haibara: So...did somebody also tell you to invite the Detective Boys here?

12
Suzuki: No, it's because that fellow wrote a postscript on his advance notice!
"This time we'll get rid of the child's play and do battle as adults."

Suzuki: And so I figured children were his weakness and invited the Detective Boys!
Haibara: Certainly...

Haibara: If the Kid is behind the phone calls to the TV station staff...
That would mean he intentionally wanted to exclude that young man from the scene...

Haibara: And if so, why did he write such a postscript on his advance notice?
Even if he could have predicted the counselor would invite the young Detective Boys based on his personality...

Haibara: At any rate this case is full of puzzles...
Although nobody should have been able to slip out of this temple...

Haibara: It's a mystery where the stolen jewel could have been placed so that we can't find it...
And those 4 keys the counselor tacked onto the wall...

13
Haibara: All 4 of them have fluorescent paint on their tips...
Since the 4 keyholes on the pedestals also have the fluorescent paint, I can only think that the Kid used these keys...

Haibara: If he had tacked them on lightly in order to use them...
And then more forcefully when he was done with them, there would have been a pretty large noise...

Haibara: But we didn't hear any such sound when we were listening to the recording...
Would he be able to recover the keys and affix them to the exact same location in that short a period of time?

Haibara: But it's certain the Kid did more in the dark...
than just attaching his cards to the pedestals...

Haibara: Perhaps the fluorescent paint is a red herring...
and he really did use the method for opening the column without using the keys from the writing on the column...

Haibara: But we have no idea how to place the pedestals in order...
White, black, red, green...

Haibara: Really...
You can't sleep forever, and we could use your insight...

Conan: White...

14
Haibara: Eh?

Ayumi: Conan-kun’s awake?
Conan: Sshhhh!!
You're too loud...

Mitsuhiko: Eh? You're keeping it a secret that you're awake?
Genta: Why?

Conan: Idiot! This is the first time the Kid's knocked me out...
And I don't even know the motive behind that, so there's no way I can get up!

Conan: Apart from that, there's been something bothering me...what was that "peeee" sound?
Mitsuhiko: Ah...
That's the sound of the electric current being cut from the pedestals...

Mitsuhiko: Green, red, white, and then black in that order; then the sound goes off and the power gets cut.
That's why the Inspector told us, "When the sound goes off then each of you please guard the pedestals."
Conan: Oh...

15
Conan: Then could you tell me the position of the the Kid's cards that were pasted on the pedestals?
Mitsuhiko: Positions?
Conan: Yeah...On the red pedestal it's attached just above the keyhole...

Conan: On the green pedestal I can see that it's placed just a little bit hier than that...
But I can't see the black and white ones...

Ayumi: The white pedestal is the same as the red one, just above the keyhole...
Genta; On the black pedestal it's even just a bit higher than on the green one!

Conan: I see...
Is that so...

Conan: Then, could you guys surround me so that I can't be seen by the others?

Conan: In this position it's hard...
Haibara: That's right...so you're seeing more than you want to see...

Conan: Uh, no, that's just a coincidence...
Haibara: Pervert...

Conan: Idiot, if I were truly a pervert I'd continue staring without saying anything...

16
Ayumi: Co...
Conan-kun!?

Conan: I figured it out! Why he knocked me out...
Mitsuhiko: Eh?
Genta; Seriously?

Conan: And of course...
Which one of those...

Conan: Is really the Kid!

Sidetext: Which one of them is Kaitou Kid in disguise? Next chapter, solution! !
