Scramble for the Kinniku Throne (18): The Three Special Techniques
-> RTS Page for Kinnikuman 291
Using a bit of physics and a bit of elbow grease, Terry has taken down King the 100 Ton, leaving only Mariposa himself as their competition! But is Terry going to stick around...or will Robin finally be entering for his take at a potential Prince!?
Chapter 291: Scramble for the Kinniku Throne (18): The Three Special Techniques
(TN: The title actually uses “Hissatsuwaza” for “Special Technique”, with “Hissatsu” standing for “certain-kill”, but considering how often people translates “hissatsu” as merely as “special”, “killer” or “final” technique, it should be translated as it should be…though in some cases since “hissatsu” isn’t a “final”, I rather just call it “special”)
167.
Announcer: Terryman has destroyed the body of King the 100 Ton, which has become brittle, with a Calf Branding---!!
168.
Announcer: With that, Terryman’s victory is for certain---!!
Suguru: Great, now there’s just Mariposa left!!
Meat: Team Kinnikuman has the absolute advantage since we still have Robin Mask in the wings!!
Mariposa: 100 Ton, as a member of the Mariposa Corp, it is unforgivable for you to merely die in vain!!
100 Ton: I…can do this just for you for the advantage of the match; my…usage of this is with the thorough knowledge of our mission.
169.
Robin: Te…Terry, watch out!!
Terry: …………
Terry: Uo!!
170.
Terry: …………
Suguru: Te…Terryman
Announcer: How unfortunate: a fragment of King the 100 Ton’s body that was flying through the sky has taken Terryman down as his head gets hit by it!!
Referee: One, Two…
Announcer: The referee’s down count has started: if Terryman, who has taken this aggression, doesn’t stand within the 10 Count either, then this becomes a double-knock out tie---!!
Suguru: Th……that’s……
Mariposa: You’ve done well, 100 Ton.
171.
100 Ton: I…I’m honored to have taken your praise, Mariposa-sama.
100 Ton: Geho!!
Terry: Uuh!!
Suguru: You can do this, Terry!!
Suguru: Just a bit more, Terry!!
172.
Terry: Uuh…!!
Referee: Ten!!
Announcer: Terryman’s good fight was futile as he gets a “draw due to injury” with King the 100 Ton due to an unfortunate accident---!!
Suguru: Aah!!
Terry: S**t—I was bad for being unprepared for that end-----!!
Announcer: Well, in this “win through” battle between Team Kinnikuman and Team Mariposa………due to the tie of Terryman and King the 100 Ton
173.
Announcer: The finale has become entrusted to a battle of fellow generals: Robin Mask vs. Kinnikuman Mariposa----!!
Sign:
SECOND-IN-COMMAND: TERRYMAN (TIE) SECOND-IN-COMMAND: KING THE 100 TON
GENERAL: ROBIN MASK – GENERAL: KINNIKUMAN MARIPOSA
Referee: Team Mariposa General: Kinnikuman Mariposa!!
Mariposa: Right!!
Referee: Team Kinnikuman General: Robin Mask!!
Robin: K!!
Audience: Robi—n, we’ve waited for you---!!
174.
Referee: Will both combatants enter the ring.
Audience: ROBI—N, ROBI—N, ROBI—N, ROBI—N
Suguru: Will you ever get into that ring!!
Meat: The throne is for my Prince!!
Mariposa: Let go!!
Suguru: O…Owa—what superhuman strength---!!
Mariposa: Whoever is the mightiest one has the power to gain the crown of Planet Kinniku. Now I’ll prove it with Robin as my guinea pig.
(TN: Mariposa actually says Robin “in place of a guinea pig” in Japanese, but somehow the fact that Robin is the “test subject” of Mariposa’s power makes him a guinea pig, so I didn’t make it too literal)
175.
Mariposa: You two will quietly watch this match!!
Mariposa: Ha----!!
176.
Announcer: Well, both great rivals are facing each other—the team of which over of these wins will be given the right to advance to the semi-finals of the Scramble for the Throne Survival Match.
Mariposa: Showing your back to an enemy is the ultimate negligence for a Choujin wrestler!!
Announcer: Mariposa wages an attack before the gong!!
Suguru: Robi—n!!
177.
Robin: Uh…uuh…
Mariposa: There!
Mariposa: One more time!!
Mariposa: Ha…
Mariposa: Senton Gebradora!!
(TN: The “senton” that Mariposa is performing is a “back splash” move in wrestling, but I can’t really find any sort of connection to the “gebradora” that he is connected to the current senton splash he’s giving out)
Audience: Aah!!
178.
Suguru: Robin, are you alright!!
Robin: I was thinking that the man called Mariposa was a show-off general without real power, but he’s quite a great major player.
Suguru: You can do this, Robin: if you can win against Mariposa, I’ll treat you to a large-serving of gyuudon---!!
Robin: Throw in an egg and miso soup too.
Mariposa: You won’t be stepping into this ring again!!
Announcer: Mariposa once again is rushing towards Robin Mask, who is standing on the apron again---!!
179.
Robin: Uh!!
Announcer: However, Robin deciphered it at once and has taken him into a Spinning Lobster Defense—
Announcer: Robin has flung Mariposa high over his head with an overhead throw—
Robin: Hmph!!
180.
Announcer: And now Robin Mask is lying in wait to skewer with his head the falling Mariposa—
SFX: Ping
Robin: Ping?
Robin: Wh…what!?
181.
Announcer: Somehow Mariposa has prevented his skewering by doing a handstand with a fingertip on the horn on Robin Mask’s head----!!
Robin: Aah!!
Robin: I’ve…seen many light Choujin until now, but this Mariposa Choujin has emerged from among the crowds of them…
Mariposa: That’s obvious.
Mariposa: Planet Moctezuma, where I was born and raised, is a planet with only half the oxygen of Earth and Planet Kinniku. Since even a short walk would trap you quickly to have labored breathing, we’re absolutely prohibited for intense activity without a flask of oxygen……
(TN: “Moctezuma” can also be read as “Montezuma” and is in reference to the final emperor of the Aztec empire)
Sign: Wear your flask
182.
Mariposa: I was a thief by trade for my daily living. I was always being chased by the police without an oxygen flask within the thin oxygen; not able to buy a flask due to poverty.
Mariposa: However, that environment presented to me a tough heart and a spring step……
(TN: Mariposa merely said “presented me with a spring”, but I made it a “spring step” due to how he usually uses his skills anyway)
Mariposa: This Earth particularly as many times the quantity of oxygen of Planet Moctezuma; thus, my leg strength and jumping power has been powered up many times that of Planet Moctezuma.
Robin: People who live in the highlands have been well said to demonstrate a pre-eminence in doing the running high jump and long jump at ground level, so there is a reason for Mariposa to have practiced this same principle.
Mariposa: You’re quick to understand as expected, Robin Mask.
Robin: Ki…Kinnikuman, if there is some chance, I may not be able to eat your gyuudon.
Suguru: Why are you so timid, that’s not like you at all, Robin!
183.
Mariposa: Kinnikuman, in order to be qualified for the throne of Planet Kinniku, you have to win through this survival match for one thing; but do you know of the other qualification to prove you’re the throne successor?
Suguru: The other qualification for Throne Succession!?
Mariposa: Do you know of the Finishing Hold Fresco in the Great Kinniku Temple?
Suguru: Finishing Hold Fresco?
Mayumi: Hey, Suguru! Why don’t you know of that in spite of being prince of Planet Kinniku?
Mayumi: Created over many long years by our ancestors on Planet Kinniku, the “Finishing Hold Fresco” is a thing that is drawn to show on a wall only the chosen three best special techniques among those developed; it is law that whoever gains the throne of Planet Kinniku must master all three special techniques.
184.
Mayumi: However, these three special techniques required a high level of technique for all of them; eventually after that, there wasn’t anyone who could master even one of the techniques among those who gained the throne.
Mayumi: Thus in saying that, I too had challenged them many times, but couldn’t master them.
Mayumi: However, if there was a person who could master even one of the special techniques drawn on the Finishing Hold Fresco among the participants of this Survival Match, that person would be the new Great King of Planet Kinniku without complaint!!
Mariposa: So, if I have mastered one of the special moves drawn on that Finishing Hold Fresco, what would you do?
Suguru: ………!!
185.
Announcer: Robin’s body is quickly being eaten inside----!!
Mayumi: Ooh—that technique, surely, is one of the techniques drawn on the Finishing Hold Fresco: the Muscle Revenger!!
(End of Vol. 25)
TN: Ladies and gentlemen, let's all applaud Suguru's dad Mayumi...for making the tournament even harder for his son with another bit of "Kinniku ancestors bullcrap!" I know that it's one thing to have Suguru just win the tournament and try to prove that he's the legitimate heir over those other five Kinniku-wannabes, but why did they have to bring in "well this guy may know one of the three Special Techniques that the king must know all three of once...so he may be the legitimite heir!" Alright, I concede that of course the Gods of Planet Kinniku probably all know their history, probably knew about the Special Techniques on that fresco to themselves (that the Kinniku people developed, not the gods themselves even if it's at a temple to said gods) and figured "well it's insane enough we're screwing Suguru in one way...let's use this ancient obscure rule to screw him in another", thereby bringing in (at least for one so far) the Special Techniques. But while the Gods may be using it, it's Mayumi who ended up deciding to add that as a requirement so basically...this is his fault, not the Gods and not Suguru. Good idea, Dad, in forcing your son to learn something you yourself haven't...well yeah, Suguru isn't required yet but it does seem so already with the sudden "you must win the tourney and do one of these moves" bit.
Not really too much more to complain about with this chapter since it was rather decent and even amusing at times. I didn't expect Robin to actually want free gyuudon from Suguru considering he never seemed the gyuudon type. Meanwhile, Mariposa's "flight mastery" coming from his home planet...it was weird but it works. (though why do they have to come in flasks...AKA: Bombe...don't they realize we have had enough problems with "bombe" in this series already?...let alone I really don't get why he couldn't just be born on Planet Moctezuma instead of on Planet Kinniku) Oh...and for some reason thanks to "Muscle Fight", I always imagine a magic arrow appearing over Terry whenever 100 Ton's fist smashes him in the head...not to mention the brilliance of Mariposa smashing Suguru and Meat at the same time as one of his openings!
