KINNIKUMAN SUPER PHOENIX VS. KINNIKUMAN BIG BODY

TN: Well there you have your fashion tip for the day, friends: just a little bit of black paint on a sleeveless vest and you too can have a long priestly robe to do a sneak in! I'm not saying there was anything wrong with what Soldier did, but somehow seeing the garbs he ended up using and how "short" his vest is just doesn't quite add up aside from realizing that this is nothing in a series where characters can graft keyholes on their body to turn back time or fuse into the armor of an ultimate evil being who is nothing more than a jealous talking head. One thing I really appreciate about this chapter is that literally three-quarters of the notable Choujin that Soldier has asked to join him are resistant on fighting for someone who is extremely obsessed with Kinnikuman. Considering that three of these Choujin originally had beef with Suguru but either have never really faced him as an antagonist (Brocken) or have been converted to the point that they really have nothing to fight for with him (Buffaloman...Ashuraman is a 'maybe' since last it seemed he still is a demon god even though he sort of was mentally broken and more emotional with all that happened last arc), seeing some strange guy in a Kinnikuman outfit suddenly say "fight him with me" and then proving his noble nature is just a good trust-building exercise. It is cool though that The Ninja actually said yes from the get-go...but of course, the last we saw him was part of Ashuraman's "Hell Canvas" as one of the many Devil Choujin trapped in there...who the heck knows how he got out but that's another matter altogether. (considering he was floating around most likely with his Devil Choujin friends prior, I doubt it was just by collecting those orbs and fighting oni)

But of course this doesn't stop the WTF moments from popping up in this chapter. First of all: how...or should I say, why does Soldier know all that about Brocken Jr? Sure it really would have been enough for him to say "you're young, you haven't abandoned your ambition, join me", but to mention "I know everything about you, even your favorite color and food"...yeah, either Soldier is a stalker or has been reading too many fan mags by this point. Secondly...how the heck is Buffaloman still alive!? After all that bullcrap that Dr. Bombe pulled in the last arc with "you must give up your horns and die so that Suguru can fight in the final round", Buffaloman is not just alive but hornless and looking rather well! And don't give me he was down in the Choujin Graveyeard too, since if he was Warsman probably would have said "oh Suguru, Buffaloman was just by recently and went back up because Dr. Bombe is down here too and he hated how that guy screwed with all of us just to pull that bullcrap...and he is a bull so he should know". Let's just say if I had the chance, I would bring Dr. Bombe back to life just so we could revoke his license to be a doctor...then kill him again. The last WTF is from how the heck Soldier would get such a good brand like a Sony camcorder...but I guess they liked him enough to give him sponsorship.

A few more minor non-Soldier notes about this chapter: first, I really feel sorry for Big Body now that he essentially revealed that the God of Strength screwed with him. Something does not really feel right about this tournament all of a sudden if these "Gods" who are supposed to be equal and trying to fight to the best of their abilities would end up screwing with several of the Choujin they possess to take part (first God of Flight not teaching Mariposa the real Muscle Revenger, now God of Strength forcing Big Body into the tournament against his will). Second, Super Phoenix...is an annoying scumbag who seems like he's trying to show off his brains and superiority...like Robin Mask with too much pride. And finally...we got some new Choujin designs...and while I could say some things about a few (we know already that Bikeman and Parthenon are going to be showing up with the Zebra team claiming them), I had a weird inkling that one sort of shows up in Nisei...but that's another story altogether.
